I have a couple of questions I coukdbt say in real life.

  1. those people in hotels that have breakfast and then check out - what do you do about tooth brushing?

  2. if you see someone eating a big breakfast do you think they are greedy? I'm self consious when eating a buffet breakfast alone and never know how much to eat.

OP posts:
wasonthelist · 09/11/2017 08:13

Wow! I had no idea one was supposed to brush before eating! Thanks OP.

Fellia · 09/11/2017 08:14

I was also always told not to brush teeth straight after eating.

I just do it before I have a shower, thought everyone did!

LambMadras · 09/11/2017 08:16

Most people clean their teeth in the car

Errr no they really don’t Confused

Crumbs1 · 09/11/2017 08:17

I brush after my morning tea before breakfast.
I tend to be with others from work in hotels. So not eating alone.
I carry a travel toothbrush and toothpaste with me and use them I need downstairs lavatory before checking out or on arrival at meeting destination.

YouthsAStuffWillNotEndure · 09/11/2017 08:34

I'm still wondering how anyone brushes their teeth in the car....

Where does the water come from?
Don't you risk dribbling toothpaste down yourself?
And most important of all - isn't it a bit dangerous while driving?

I have noticed people doing all sorts of things whilst at the wheel of a car, but never ever have I seen someone brushing their teeth.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/11/2017 08:41

Brush first thing. Like any other day

The only people I judge at an all you can eat breakfasts are the ones who pile up several plates then leave half of it. I hate that "I've got to have it so you can't and it doesn't count as waste because it's 'free'" attitude. I find it positively cringe worthy!

Other than that I think knock yourself out at a breakfast buffet!

stormnigel · 09/11/2017 08:41

I always eat as much hotel breakfast as possible. I’ve paid for it and it’s usually nicer than breakfast I can make for myself-plus someone else has to wash up. Fill your boots I say!

As for a) I usually leave my bag up in the room when I go for breakfast, having first packed it. Pop up after, cleans teeth, then check out. Done

BitOutOfPractice · 09/11/2017 08:42

Howdo you even brush your teeth in the car? Am I doing something wrong? Come back @HullyGully!

JeReviens · 09/11/2017 08:43

I thought this was going feature some really embarrassing shit like "how often do you cream your piles" or "when is a good time to have a good pick at my toenails"
Never been so simultaneously disappointed and baffled. You really truly worry about this teeth cleaning shit? Really?
And who gives a crap what you do it do not have for breakfast?
Totally weird.

lalliella · 09/11/2017 08:52

  1. I never check straight out. I go back to the room and clean my teeth. (Sometimes I’ve cleaned them before breakfast too, depending on my breath when I wake up Grin)

  2. Who cares? Fill your boots!

Missingstreetlife · 09/11/2017 08:57

Always have fruit and cooked breakfast
Often take cereal and croissant with me for lunch

expatinscotland · 09/11/2017 09:03

WTF is with all these eating disordered people who watch what others eat and refer to it as 'greedy'? It's food, not the GNP of a small nation. No one cares what you eat!

Bubblebubblepop · 09/11/2017 09:06

OP with the greatest of respect, No one is looking at what you eat. It's not important to other people. They have their own concerns.

And yes brushing before breakfast is normal. Can't believe anyone took the car answer seriously Grin

Missingstreetlife · 09/11/2017 09:06

And yoghurt

Fekko · 09/11/2017 09:09

I love a hotel breakfast. I rarely eat breakfast at home there's just something about having a full English when you don't have to make it or clear up.

ShotsFired · 09/11/2017 09:09

When I am in nice hotels its usually on holidays in foreign climes, so we eat a big meal (I never normally have breakfast or lunch) and usually also snaffle a couple of pastries and fruit etc for snacks when we are out and about in the day.

That said, the best hotel breakfast I've ever had was in Bristol when I used to travel there for work. I miss those days.

LazyDailyMailJournos · 09/11/2017 09:14

I brush my teeth as soon as I get up - I don't feel fully awake until I've done them.

Hotel breakfasts - I'll go for a full cooked option. I've usually been up for 2-3 hours already by the time it's being served, as I get up early but don't usually eat first thing as I can't face it. By the time it's being served I'm usually ravenous. I don't eat a cooked breakfast very often so it's an occasional indulgence. I certainly couldn't give a toss what any of the other people in the dining room think!

spiney · 09/11/2017 09:14

Clean teeth before I leave the room - checking straight out or not after breakfast.

Never ever assume anyone watching what I am eating. They are too busy scarfing their hotel ( bit of a treat ) breakfast too.

Liiinoo · 09/11/2017 09:15

I brush before breakfast. I might brush after as well if I think I have coffee breath, I carry a travel brush and toothpaste in my bag for top up brushes during the day. I have never brushed my teeth in the car and have never seen anyone else do it.

Hotel breakfasts are delicious treats. I eat way more than I would at home including fruitsalad/pastries/pancakes/waffles/whipped cream and justify it in my head by thinking value for money and not having to eat again until the evening.

Tuck in and enjoy OP. If we didn't eat it would just get binned!

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 09/11/2017 09:17
  1. Oral B "Brush-Ups" (disposable, minty, textured dental wipe things you stick on the end of your finger. No water needed). Invaluable for freshening up when travelling etc.
  1. Hotel breakfasts are part of the experience. I wouldn't judge anyone for making the most of what's available, especially if all-inclusive/ expense account.
TonicAndTonic · 09/11/2017 09:26
  1. I've never got this either. I always go back to my room, clean my tetth and pick up my bags. I wouldn't clean my teeth before breakfast because I don't want my breakfast tasting like toothpaste. Also if you clean your teeth last thing at night, then as soon as you wake up, you haven't eaten anything in between, so what's the point in doing it again so soon?

The NHS says that you should brush your teeth before breakfast

No it doesn't, it says you should do it last thing at night and on one other occasion during the day.

  1. I try not to make eye contact with random people in the breakfast room in a hotel so wouldn't see what they are eating. I don't have fryups etc at home so probably do go a bit mad myself on the breakfast buffet!
YouthsAStuffWillNotEndure · 09/11/2017 09:43

I believe the reason dentists recommend brushing your teeth before breakfast is because this will remove the plaque from your teeth before eating. It is the food coming into contact with the plaque which causes decay.

Please correct me someone if I've got this wrong.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/11/2017 09:44

I'm a bit disappointed we're not 📞 asking the questions we can't ask.

Like if you see a parent with a child who obviously has medical issues a) why do you think it's ok to comment about it in a patronizing way b) do you secretly wonder if mom did something whilst she was pregnant to cause it

streetlife70s · 09/11/2017 12:58

I shower, brush teeth, get dressed, put on make up before leaving the hotel room for breakfast. Why would you go to breakfast with morning breath? A quick make mint afterwards then head home. Of course it’s different to being at home where you could eat breakfast then brush before facing the general public.

I only eat a tiny breakfast or nothing at all at home. If I’ve paid X amount for someone else to cook me a lovely brekkie I make the most of it! I stuff my little face but then I’d skip lunch and not eat until dinner time.

I don’t take any notice of what anyone else eats and don’t think anyone does of me. Even if I did I would also assume they were doing the same as me if they looked a pretty ordinary weight because I’d assume very few people eat like that at breakfast at home.

Fruitcocktail6 · 09/11/2017 13:01

How does one brush their teeth in the car?
