How much do you spend on dc's at Christmas?

I spend about £70 - £100 each. They're 8 & 10. But from what I've seen at Christmas time -on facebook- eek other parents spend hundreds.

Why has this been resurrected??

Glitteryone · 25/10/2020 23:45

Between 600-1000 per child, depending on what they need/want.... It sounds nuts I know but it really doesn’t take long to add up.

I don’t post photos or boast on social media.

Glitteryone · 25/10/2020 23:46

Ahhhh just seeing this is a very old thread!

Gillian1980 · 25/10/2020 23:52

No set amount.
Dictated each year by what we can afford, what kids are hoping for / we want to buy them etc.
This year ds main toy is £28 and he’ll get a few little bits to go with it. He’s only a toddler.
Dd is 5 and has a never ending list!! But we’ll pick one or two substantial toys (£30 each ish) and a few smaller bits.
Both have stockings but nothing expensive in those.

Gillian1980 · 25/10/2020 23:53

Oh.... zombie 🧟‍♀️

Rotundandhappy · 26/10/2020 06:58

About £300 on a big ticket item and a few small bits. If the big thing costs less, I won’t make it up to the amount with small stuff, I’ll just spend less.

Rotundandhappy · 26/10/2020 06:59

Oh just saw it was a zombie. @Mother2princess you have eight kids???

Rollmopsrule · 26/10/2020 07:14

Spend what you want to and can afford and don't judge others for doing the same.

hellywelly3 · 26/10/2020 07:51

I spend what can with over stretching. I will look at getting everything on their list. I never buy equal amounts. I don’t make it stressful

Greeneyes78 · 26/10/2020 09:10

About €500-600 each

VestaTilley · 26/10/2020 10:38

Ignore social media.

I think it’s all relative- it depends on what they need, what they’d like, what you can afford and what they already have.

We don’t have a set limit as DS is a toddler and our only child, but I think when children have loads they don’t appreciate it, and toys get easily cast aside.

We both have big families, so he’ll likely always get lots, but my plan will be to space gifts out through Christmas Day and over the twelve days as he gets older, and to not engage in a plastic, consumer tat fest where avoidable.

Easier said than done though when you want your DC to have everything. Obviously I’d never let him go without, and he doesn’t wait until Christmas or birthday’s for new clothes or essentials.

Tiersforfears · 26/10/2020 10:49

@justalittlelemondrizzle buy what you can afford. I do go OTT at Christmas and spend too much, you don’t need to spend loads to have a happy time. You sound like a lovely mum, don’t compare yourself x

marmite79 · 26/10/2020 10:52

About £300 each. They are not spoilt. They don’t have much during the year, we don’t have holidays or many days out year on year and we’ve also had a shit year (not just covid, other things too). They are also summer birthdays so no birthdays close to Christmas. So yeah every year I spend about £250-£300 each! My sons main present cost £90 this year!

Tiersforfears · 26/10/2020 16:23

🧟‍♀️ 🧟‍♀️ 🧟‍♂️

Franticbutterfly · 26/10/2020 17:00

Usually £350 for each (3) DC, but it won't be anywhere near that this year because I lost my job in March and have only just started a new one.

Sheknowsaboutme · 26/10/2020 17:09

£300 on each. We have 3.

But we don’t buy nieces/nephews/aunts whatever.... just our kids. They are 12/16/18

BakewellGin1 · 27/10/2020 07:50

It depends really on our finances

Oldest DS (12) never asks for anything new, looks after his things and never loses them. Birthday and Christmas are at the same end of the year so including clothes, coat, trainers, football boots, football shirts and a few goodies/stocking fillers I'd say he is hitting about 900. But like I say other then essentials he gets nothing all year and he understands depending on our finances some years he gets more/less then others.

Youngest DS (19 months) 300 all in but his also includes clothes, Pyjamas, wellies, hat/gloves etc

It isn't about other people it's about what you can afford or want to spend. Ours definately varies year on year.
