Nutella gets lighter and sweeter. Aka more milk powder and sugar

Won't be buying that again. Nor Terrys Chocolate Oranges. Nor Creme Eggs. Angry

Profit before taste Angry humppfffff.

There was a chocolate spread years ago that was really dark and had almost the consistency of Marmite. It was amazing. Does anyone remember it?

I remember what you mean wombling, I think Tesco used to sell it in the Kosher section - not seen it for many years.

I would expect them to reduce not increase the sugar content.

Where do you buy that @AuntyElle ?

Best milk chocolate I've had lately:

Prestat Milk Chocolate with Roasted Almond & Sea Salt Bar (on offer quite often at Ocado)
Montezuma Organic Smooth Milk Chocolate Giant Buttons

The other one has a blue packet but I can't recall the name. They sell it in the bakery, next to the buttons! (why can't Google give you THAT answer?) Grin)

Man I used to love Nutella and dairy milk bars as a kid.. they’re ruining everything!

As an aside the Waitrose own brand chocolate bars are a good substitute for dairy milk. And DH recently brought back some Dutch chocolate from a business trip that was actually milky and chocolatey and thick. Not greasy and sugary like dairy milk is nowadays.

Off topic but I only learned last week that Nutella is apparently pronounced nu-tella not nut-ella. I use the own brand French one which is delish. But I absolutely agree about chocolate oranges- they are so oily.

If they mess about with Turkish delight though.... that’s when I’ll have to write a strongly worded letter Grin

Do you remember the advert when they tried to market it as a healthy breakfast spread?

I find it hilarious that the advert used to start ‘we all want our kids to have something healthy for breakfast’, and now it’s changed to ‘we all want our kids to have something for breakfast’ Grin

Went off that a while ago. It is all thick and claggy now. I eat far less chocolate nowadays thanks to all the horrible ingredient changes. I never eat Cadbury's now which I used to love. They can keep promoting all these new wacky flavours but it won't change the fact that Cadburys doesn't taste nice anymore! Bring back the original and simple whole nut! Pringles are horrible now too!

There are nicer chocolate spreads. Morrisons stock one that's much lower in sugar. It's delicious and doesn't taste at all 'worthy'.

Mollie85 I'd noticed the pronunciation being nu-tella in recent years too. I just assumed it used to be nut-ella but they'd decided to try and trick us into thinking it was nu-tritious.

Zoll and Zaphod, I've added your recs to my Ocado order, thanks.
No Montezuma milk chocolate buttons though, only dark. Sad

Sigh love Noo-tella.

Why does it need MORE sugar?

Guilt making enough as it is.

I'm sure there was a chocolate orange spread when I was wee - in a cardboard tub that had a bear on the front. Anyone know what I mean?

The other one I think of occasionally was an apple spread - think it was basically pureed apples thickened up. Really sweet and sticky. Haven't seen that for years, either.

Flora cocoa and hazelnut spread.
It's refrigerated. So good. No palm fats.
Even my picky daughter prefers it.
On special £2 a jar 😁

I wondered if it changed the other day - got a new jar with the snowman wrap/label on rather than the standard label. And digging into it the first time it was definitely runnier and easier to spread, like someone had stirred an extra spoon or two of oil into it...

Definitely going to try some of the alternatives people are recommending!

Both dark and milk chocolate oranges in my local Sainsbury, look a lot smaller than they used to be.

@WomblingFree & @ASDismynormality - is this the chocolate spread you remember? I remember it fondly from my childhood, though I think the pot had been slightly updated by my time (b 1956). The pot was waxed cardboard, (though I think it later changed to plastic)

While googling for a picture, I came across a forum discussing it, and someone suggested that Waitrose’s ‘seriously chocolatey chocolate spread’ was very similar - I might give it a go...
