To put a boy in leggings?

GlitterandSparkle88 · 05/11/2017 00:06

I recently bought some leggings for my 15month old boy just plain navy, white and some black ones. I thought they looked fine and he was comfy and happy. However DH isn't happy as they were from the girls section in next. Does it really matter? He thinks leggings are for girls only, he's not the only one most of the family are saying I'm wrong for putting him in leggings. Surely I'm not the only one to put a boy in leggings!

I plan to reuse all of DD leggings for Ds, even the pink ones tbh!

YANBU leggings are the best for babies and toddlers, I always dress my nearly 2 year old in them and they're often from the girls section too. DH thinks they're great too.

Toddlers usually still have naps so need to be comfortable while they're sleeping. I absolutely detest the jeans they make for boys, they're usually thick with a lining and baggy with those awful waistbands and ankle cuffs, I would hate to have to wear them at the best of times. Leggings are easier to move around in. I also buy DS the girls jeggings from H&M instead of jeans.

My ds (almost 2) only wears leggings. I just find jeans or traditional trousers too stiff and uncomfortable and harder to get on. I usually buy the unisex ones.

My DS, age 18 months, wears leggings! They are so comfy and allow for climbing/running.
Zara do some lovely patterned ones!

YANBU

Your husband et al are just lagging behind. Show him footballer in their sports tights and he’ll come round.

Sorry you lost me when you started talking about putting a toddler in WHITE clothes. Are you mad? YABU. Have Biscuit too.

My son always wore leggings, he won't wear them now at 6 but was wearing them up until he was about 4.5 I'd say.

Shock horror, I even put tights on him when he was little! They kept him extra warm and didn't have to worry about socks falling off!

Personally I wouldn't but that's just me

My sons aged 6 and 4 both love leggings - comfy and easy to move in. They also love a variety of colours, including pink. It has no reflection on their gender.

I'd have a talk with your DH about the fact that, whilst dressing him in perfectly comfortable, warm clothes is not going to damage your child in any way, subjecting him to ridiculous gender stereotyping may well do.

And no-one else in your family is entitled to stick their tuppence-worth in: tell them in no uncertain terms to poke it.

DS (6) generally lives in shorts, but will wear fleece lined sports leggings for sport or cold evenings (e.g. camping). They don't offend him like most trousers do.

Mine only wore leggings for about 9 months but as a toddler he had a lovely line in pink spotty tights which were his sisters cast offs and I agree, there was very little more funny than him getting more and more frustrated when he couldn't pull them off

Brilliant. No problem at all. Just for a laugh ( and because it’s hugely practical ) tights underneath ...
seriously I was friends with a lady who lived in Austria for a while and tights in boy colours for winter unde snow suits or crawling on the floor.

YANBU. Another here who did this too. I also put DS in tights under his trousers in the winter. DH wasn’t sure about it at first but when he realised it stopped DS taking his socks off and throwing them all over the place on days it he loved it.

My son (nearly 4) refuses to wear anything but leggings (as I gaze wistfully as the sets of jeans and chinos I bought earlier for him to grow into). I think legging are ace, Check out eBay new sellers for great leggings and joggers/harem pants in lovely bright designs

My DM runs a preschool and the vast majority of little boys are in leggings. They are comfy and easy to move about in, why wouldn't anyone want that for their child? Your DH is being silly, just buy leggings from the boys section next time so he doesn't get his knickers in a twist over clothes being the wrong gender Wink

I put my 15 month old son in leggings a lot! We really like the rainbow ones from Jojo. They don't make him look like a girl at all; what a ridiculous thing for people to say!

My son only ever wore leggings when he was smaller or tights (Toby tiger, brilliant)! He’s 4 and at school now and still quite often wears leggings - I’m not a fan if tracksuit bottoms!

One of my sons wears leggings all the time at home. He's 21 (years not months). He's a very masculine metal head and he finds them comfy. My 18 year old was persuaded to model some for his flat mates at Uni (girls) and he said he could see why his brother wears them and may get some too. He's also a metal head.

Tell him to have that conversation with an American Footballer - their lower halves are clad in a cross between leggings & tights but I doubt you'd question their masculinity!

Leggings or trackies should be the staple wear for all toddlers imo! (Except contrary ones that refuse these items, I guess)

Nothing wrong with it OP. Although I found trackies more practical for my ds as they are a bit warmer.

I agree with the comment about white clothes, but there is always a white pair in a multi pack, isn't there? Annoying!
