AIBU?

To put a boy in leggings?

GlitterandSparkle88 · 05/11/2017 00:06

I recently bought some leggings for my 15month old boy just plain navy, white and some black ones. I thought they looked fine and he was comfy and happy. However DH isn't happy as they were from the girls section in next. Does it really matter? He thinks leggings are for girls only, he's not the only one most of the family are saying I'm wrong for putting him in leggings. Surely I'm not the only one to put a boy in leggings!

Wearing leggings will not make him a girl.

Oh dear your DH would have hated it if your DD had to go to my DDs primary school then. In the middle of farm land AND near to the cliffs at a bleak north sea facing coast. Majority of the boys wore not just leggings but sometimes (clutches pearls) tights! Under trousers to avoid freezing to death in winter Grin

Boys wear thermal leggings all the time for sport - under football and rugby kits and as base layers for ski-ing. Only thing I'd have against girls leggings is that they can be more expensive than boys with no justification. YANBU.

My ds, for whom leggings were a godsend, is now one of the most boyish boys you could imagine. He loved a fairy dress at one point too. Kids will find themselves. A pair of leggings won't change that.

Almost every single toddler boy I come into contact with tends to wear leggings (usually with pictures on the bum) and a long sleeve top

both my boys wore leggings and tights as babies and toddlers - practical and comfortable, it's a no brainer.

by the same logic neither of my girls wore dresses until they were up and walking reliably, so past 2 years old. it is just the more practical option.

My toddler ds wears leggings all the time. They're very practical and they suit him. He's very tall and slim so the bigger sizes fit snugly at the waist but are long enough in the leg.

A couple of friends have made jokey negative comments, but they like to dress their boys in thick, stiff denim with zips and buttons. The poor kids can hardly move. I don't take their opinions very seriously!

What an odd thing for your DH to get upset about.

My 4 year old and 18m old son both wear leggings regularly. I buy them a size or two up for the 4 year old so they’re not as skin tight but they’re very comfy and practical.

Can you post a link to the leggings? My youngest lives in leggings, we mainly buy in Zara but I'm after plain colours after he has grown again, every time I look in next they only have scalloped edges on the legs or lace Confused

Leggings are super practical for both sexes. My DS wears them everyday & they were so helpful when potty training. I used to buy them from the girls section too but have now found some good online stores,

//www.minirodini.com
//www.fredandnoah.com
//www.littlekitt.com

Boys clothes should be colourful too!

pinkblink I have various for my son. JoJo do warm ones but they bobble really badly after a wash. I've got good ones from some of the Scandi brands. On colder days he wears tights underneath. Smafolk is really good.

Also H&M and Tu.

All 3 of my boys wore leggings at that age, i used to buy them from jojo mamanbebe and blade and rose, plenty of companies make them and they wouldnt if there wasnt a market for them! Your dh is going to be very disapointed when your ds starts wearing his favourite dressing up dress, my eldests was a lovely yellow number, my middle ds (3) is into handbags at the moment whilst my youngest (2) its all about the hair clips and necklaces. 😁

Marks & Spencer do some gorgeous leggings in the boys’ section if he’s so bothered about what the label says. Jo jo have some lovely ones too.

My toddler lives in leggings. I can’t remember the last time he didn’t wear them, tbh. They’re perfect for crawlers and little walkers because they don’t get in the way.

Nothing wrong with leggings on a boy. Jojo mama Bebe does some lovely ones with matching tops.

You get lovely funky printed ones from //www.fredandnoah.com and //www.2littlelegs.co.uk if your DH would like to find some more "boy" ones. I'm obsessed with them. My youngest son pretty much lives in leggings! They're great for having under trousers in the winter for extra warmth too.

YABU because with leggings you need socks which any self-respecting 15 month old will pull off and chuck in the nearest bush. What you need is tights, and a phone to record the look of bemusement on their face at the sock which never comes off.

I'm still reeling from the fact a shop wouldn't get the shoes as they were for girls! Seriously?! Wow, that's even more bonkers.

When my DS was a toddler he wore tights under his joggers; warm and flexible. So many boys clothes wouldn't let them move their legs freely. (I may also have bought some with a Hello Kitty on the bum because I liked them and some with ballet shoe feet when he was really small!)

Seriously though boys clothes can be so boring and they just really hated jeans.

There are JoJO Maman Bebe ones that have animals on the tush like owls or foxes. They also have ones with planes on. Although you shouldn't need to signpost: my child is stereotypically male.

Tights are ace for little people- they stay warm and can't pull them off.

Your dh does know that in the winter lots of people who spend lots of time outdoors like bouncers and police officers wear tights/leggings under their trousers.
I have it on very good authority that the fluffy cotton ones are the best.

Zara boys section, their pants are just boys leggings... if your partner is that bothered about them coming from girls section.

They have lots of boyish patterns.
