To wonder why my teen is stealing sugar?

Tessliketrees · 02/11/2017 20:28

One of my kids (both teens) is stealing the sugar. I don't know which one.

I noticed a brand new bag of sugar had vanished last week, I assumed it had been spilled by one of the kids who had failed to mention it. Actually that didn't really make sense at the time because neither of them is capable of cleaning a bag of sugar so well. Either way I forgot all about it.

Now a second bag has disappeared.

It's not me, its not DH. Nobody else has had access.

What the fuckity fuck is going on?

Actually, I was thinking of "fireworks" for November 5th.
Jam and Ketamine - brilliant Grin

I'm with the toffee apple theory

CaptainWarbeck · 03/11/2017 05:37

Molly I also had a flatmate who would come home drunk but make herself porridge as a bedtime snack (Scottish).

Then she'd* wake up furious with everyone because the kitchen was in a state with oats everywhere until she realised there was trails leading to and from her bedroom.*

CaptainWarbeck · 03/11/2017 05:38

Bah, bold fail

Cupoteap · 03/11/2017 05:54

Agree with astrid, thanks op this reminds me of the old days.

WingsofNylon · 03/11/2017 05:57

First thing I did when I wkike up was check this thread for and update.

Jam or ketamine, that is going to keep my spirits high all day.

Thank you OP.

milkmoustache · 03/11/2017 07:22

As the originator of the jam theory, I am desperate to reach some closure! Please question your family once again, separately, so they can't pull the wool over your eyes.

treeofhearts · 03/11/2017 07:59

Ffs op I have to knoooww.

Herja · 03/11/2017 08:02

I binge eat. When I am having a bad day, just will eat bags of sugar, because I know no one else will notice it disappearing in the same way they would with other food. Not white granulated though, generally soft brown sugar. Something like that? I'll eat a whole bag in a morning.

UrsulaPandress · 03/11/2017 08:06

I remember my Gran stockpiling sugar in the 1970s.

And mmmmmm to sugar butties.

Sucksfake1 · 03/11/2017 08:14

When I was in a psychiatric hospital (which was also a drug rehab) the staff used to have to hide the sugar.

I don't know why though so that's not much help.

When DH did a stint he made a cuppa (after getting the sugar off a nurse from a locked cupboard) and ended up off his face as another patient had been using the spoons to burn heroin on.

He wasn't a drug user, he sees the funny side now but said it was scary. The thing is hes 6 foot and big built, a small women (mixed ward) could of been really ill.

They now lock the spoons away too.

shushpenfold · 03/11/2017 08:16

Herja I’m sure that I wasn’t supposed to laugh at your post but the suggestion that you couldn’t binge eat white granulated, only soft brown made me laugh out loud. It reminded me of the ‘overheard in Waitrose’ posts!

I hope you’re doing ok though. Xxx

Rachie1986 · 03/11/2017 08:17

I'd really like an answer to this, if you could possibly manage it OP!

MrsCaecilius · 03/11/2017 08:18

Placemarking!

acornsandnuts · 03/11/2017 08:23

Could you flush the culprit out with a threat of Jeremy Kyle.

Full on airing dirty Landry, swearing and lie detector.

pinkliquorice · 03/11/2017 08:25

Maybe I’m just be boring and not seeing the funny side but I would be concerned that something worrying may be going on, especially as they all straight up denied it, surely if it was innocent they would just explain.
I would be watching closely, illegal activity, drugs, eating disorder could be possible.

SpecialAgentDaleCooper · 03/11/2017 08:27

*Tessliketrees were the signs there from an early age?

When my DS was little and came to the supermarket with me he would frequently disappear when we were by the sugar aisle - you could always find him licking his finger and dipping it into the sugar that had spilled from the stacked bags of sugar.

Clearly he's shown form as a future sugar thief.

babsthebuilder · 03/11/2017 08:28

Has the youngest been cross examined yet?

I feel that a teenager who cannot remove his plates from his sock drawer is unlikely to be be able to prepare jam without leaving any trace. Is there anything else missing?

Don’t think it’s ket either. Plenty of more suitable things to cut drugs with.

I’m truly on the edge of my seat, and if you don’t get to the bottom it I shall pop over myself and we can play good cop bad cop

bluebells1 · 03/11/2017 08:33

My nephew used to steal bags of flour. The big 3 kg bags. My SIL was worried sick, crying, convinced that he is using it to cut cocaine. But 3 Kg regularly? I asked him and he promised he is not doing drugs. My SIL walked in to his room one day to see him using those bags as weights and doing some weird bicep curls and such. Grin Don't worry OP it mst be a simple explanation.

My bet is on your DH being the sugar thief.

BertrandRussell · 03/11/2017 08:38

My ds has "caught" baking from a mixture of Noel Fielding and a seriously cool form tutor who has organized a form baking competition......

But I am pretty sure he couldn't clean up so effectively that I wouldn't notice.

Sucksfake1 · 03/11/2017 08:42

I can't see it being drugs, they are still at school surely money would of been going missing? It will no doubt be something completely random.

JWrecks · 03/11/2017 08:43

@HashtagTired - that dream is fantastic! Like a bridge troll, but a staircase/disappearing doorway troll.

The riddle is the bag of sugar, and the bag of sugar is the riddle!

ju1ie · 03/11/2017 08:44

Need to know where this goes

laurzj82 · 03/11/2017 08:44

Placemark! How do we nominate for classics?

RatRolyPoly · 03/11/2017 08:48

Prepper. All this tension between the US and North Korea, he's built a shelter and is stocking it for nuclear winter. It'll be your canned goods next OP.
