AIBU?

To stand outside for fireworks when pregnant?

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and we're going to a family member for fireworks this weekend and my DM has just demanded that I stay indoors as the noise will endanger the baby! I basically said don't be stupid and she then started to say she was going to get my DH/DF onside too to convince me to stay inside.

I was then called the worst pregnant woman ever due to my lack of concern for mine and my babies health!

Now, no amount of threatening or cajoling has ever been effective in getting me to do something that I don't want to and at this point I threatened to start lighting the fireworks rather than just be a bystander if she didn't stop her nonsense (I wouldn't actually, as I'm not sure I'd be able to make a quick getaway 😑) but before I start a different type of fireworks at the weekend tell me, is there a reason for me to stay inside on fireworks night?!

Worst baby will do is punch you in the cervix a few times!

DS2 was due the week after bonfire night, he wriggled away all through the fireworks display... a year later he slept through the entire event in the sling, snuggled up to me 😊
The best batshit advice I was ever given was from MIL and her mother. I was tickling DS feet and he was giggling then I was ‘told off’ for being so wreckless... ‘he’ll develop a stutter if you tickle his feet!’ 🤔

I used to put headphones on my bump and play Marilyn Manson & Queens of the Stone Age loudly - it did some good, DD will now often hear standard chart music, turn to me and say, "This is terrible isn't it?" Grin

I attended a fireworks display in late pregnancy with no ill effects and it didn't even occur to me to avoid it. Is it her first grandchild by any chance?

Lol. You’ll be fine!!
I went outside for fireworks with both my pregnancies. In fact I was heavily pregnant & went to a music gig too.

Does she think loud noise will induce a miscarriage, like a sheep or horse?

I'm not sure what she thinks will happen, just that it's bad! She already has a grandchild but it is my first so maybe that's why? Strangely enough my sister is also pregnant at the moment and doesn't appear to be getting anywhere near as much hassle - maybe because she follows all "the rules", sigh.

Why do mothers go mental when their daughters are pregnant?

Wow, I'm 20 weeks and the thought didn't even cross my mind not to go to a fireworks display. I can't stand people treating pregnant woman as if they can't think for themselves or need looking after in some way.
