What was the first purchase you made for your first baby, and how many weeks pregnant were you when you made it?

I bought a beautiful, tiny pair, of white bootees as soon as we decided to ttc.

My firstborn wore them when he was 2 days old, but the bootees were 17yrs old by then!

Ds is now 19 and I still have the bootees Grin

When I was actually pregnant, the first thing I bought was a cot when I was 14weeks.

20 weeks. I bought a brightly coloured wooden fish mobile from Edinburgh back in 1994.i suffered from HG and this was the first time I’d started to feel a bit better and actually look forward with hope and excitement to my baby’s birth. That fish mobile symbolised that feeling for me.

Ours was the Pram, car seat, the mattress for the crib (crib itself was a family heirloom), and the essentials to take to hospital (a pack of White babygrows, vests, hats, cardigan, cellular blankets, shawl, a teddy and a special going home outfit') and crib bedding.
I'm very superstitious and wouldn't have anything in the house until the baby was home. And we didn't want to know the sex, so all the rest was got after.
We didn't get a thing until the month before I was due. I refuse to get anything too early.

A pink cotton nappy bag with pictures of giraffes on it. I pretended (to myself) I was getting it for a friend but really it was for me. Also bought (yet another) pregnancy test as I couldn't quite believe it yet. I was 7 weeks.

I bought a hungry catepillar babygro after my 12 scan. Then I bought the travel system and car seat at 19 weeks as I could get a good deal then panicked that I had bought it too soon!

We went to a baby warehouse place to try out prams. It was like ikea and you had to go through the shopping bit to get to the buggies.

We stopped at some sleeping bags that were on offer so I pro-actively decisively picked up two and chucked them in the trolley.

Then cried like a baby on DH because it suddenly seemed so soaringly real

zigzagbetty · 31/10/2017 21:31

I bought a furry hat with bear ears from debenhams the day we found out we had been matched to our baby....we met her a week later!

Alb1 · 31/10/2017 21:34

At 12 weeks we got a bumble bee babygrow and little giraffe teddy Smile we slowly bought everything in bits after that, I had rough pregnancys so it was my little pick me up

EastDulwichWife · 31/10/2017 21:38

Can't remember the first actual thing. However, for secondary pregnancy, went into Woolworths and brought baby a blue all-in-one outfit with a Dumbo design on it (which I still have)

RussellTheLoveMuscle · 31/10/2017 21:45

I bought vitamins, clumpy boots so i wouldn't slip over on the ice and a cuddly bunny from Mothercare. I was six weeks.

A set of Dr Seuss Books at a book fair. DS is 13 now, they have been well thumbed and will never leave my house. Lots of other books have come and gone.

My first purchase was some hand knitted cardigans and hats that were specifically knitted for premature babies and were being sold in the NICU at the hospital, my sister popped into the only local shop that sold premature clothes and nappies as she dashed to the hospital to be with me, she arrived bearing gifts of the cutest tiny babygrows and the tiniest nappies I'd ever seen.

I was so sick (HG) during the pregnancy and never had the energy or the desire to go shopping for baby paraphernalia. Other family members gave us a Moses basket, crib, pushchair and had bought loads of clothes that were miles too big and even though they had all bought us clothes for 0-3 months and 3-6 months they all went out and bought more prem clothes for us. Dd was over 8 months old before the 0-3 month clothes fitted her nicely and was 1year old before she completely outgrew them.

Dd is now in her 20's, less than 5ft tall and still only needs size 1.5 shoes (her first pair of proper outdoor shoes were 00 size, she was 18 months old).
