To think if your 'big baby' can't behave you stay home.

Just back from a naice ice cream parlour, around a fiver a sundae /sweet waffle. Toppings beyond your wildest dreams. Not a fan but waited to end the hols off on a super sweet note for dc!! 4dc from 3-12. All sat super nicely (nice change!) and waited patiently to be served. A couple sat behind us, joined by dc and dgs. The little boy was a bit boisterous but not unacceptably so (about 2). Then the who's farted - was it you? Are you sure you haven't farted? You've definitely farted!
The bloody dgf!!He was winding the little boy up something ridiculous, like a bloody dc!! I mean ffs in a place people have reserved seats and are paying to eat!! Was bloody gross tbh!! Not sure if something was said to him but when we left he was sat round a corner away from the rest of the family!!
Yuck just yuck.

I would be cringing like mad, I hate that sort of toilet humour too. I also hate adults deliberately trying to wind kids up. I suspect it was a bit of "performance grandparenting" Grandad was trying to prove how hysterically funny he is.

I would also have put him in a time out!

upperlimit · 29/10/2017 15:05

So, when you say:

To think if your 'big baby' can't behave you stay home

you mean that the whole family should have stayed indoors to avoid disturbing your delicate disposition?

VladmirsPoutine · 29/10/2017 15:06

This is just grim.

OlennasWimple · 29/10/2017 15:08

Your title doesn't make sense Confused

Viviennemary · 29/10/2017 15:09

I think this is disgusting behaviour. These people should stay at home where they can behave as badly as they want. If I'd been a member of staff I'd have chucked them out. Who wants to hear this stuff when you're eating. And if kids do try it at home while eating sensible parents would tell them off right away.

Shockers · 29/10/2017 15:09

I wouldn't appreciate that either, OP, and I am in no way a 'delicate flower'; I just don't think it's appropriate in that setting.

Onlythirteendaystogo · 29/10/2017 15:09

Is that all

newmums2016 · 29/10/2017 15:10

So were they farting or just talking about it? If they were just talking then perhaps you should just mind your own and enjoy your time with the dcs. People are entitled to discuss what they please with each other

GabsAlot · 29/10/2017 15:13

i dont lik joks about farting just dont find thm funny

i expect kids to do it not old men though

Santawontbelong · 29/10/2017 15:16

I was implying the dgf was acting like an overgrown dc and should have been left at home.

The fact he was banished to another seat seems the rest of his own family agree with me tbh!!

donajimena · 29/10/2017 15:19

Thats just gross. I'd have been pissed off too. Mind you most of MN it seems will happily fart around their husband/wife/partner. 'Oh me and DP find it hilarious' medical conditions where its unavoidable can't be helped obviously.

donajimena · 29/10/2017 15:19

Excuse lack of punctuation etc.

Viviennemary · 29/10/2017 15:20

I'm afraid I don't agree that people are entitled to use whatever language they like and discuss what they like in a public place. Though it does appear that quite a few people do subscribe to the view that if poor behaviour is tolerated at home then others won't object or feel offended. This simply isn't true. This man's behaviour was offensive, rude and inappropriate.

StickThatInYourPipe · 29/10/2017 15:23

donajimena

By that are you meaning you don't fart infron your your DH/dp?

Theresamayscough · 29/10/2017 15:24

Totally agree op it’s grim

silenceisadistantmemory · 29/10/2017 15:25

How on earth do you manage to never fart in front of your partner? Mine has seen me give birth so farting seems pretty tame!

silenceisadistantmemory · 29/10/2017 15:25

Hang on, the GRANDFATHER was put in timeout??

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 29/10/2017 15:26

That family clearly should have gone to a common ice cream van not a very posh expensive ice cream parlour with toppings!!! Hmm

It wouldn't bother me. It's quite easy to ignore other tables and concentrate on your own family, especially if you have 4 children. It's not that offensive to joke about a fart is it?

Misspollyhadadollie · 29/10/2017 15:27

I never farted infront of my ex and we were together 6 years same with family. It's just rude IMO.

MargaretTwatyer · 29/10/2017 15:29

I never farted infront of my ex and we were together 6 years same with family. It's just rude IMO.

That's just insanity. Just, that repressed it's insane.

user1494815704 · 29/10/2017 15:29

Maybe you should stay home.

gamerwidow · 29/10/2017 15:34

I can’t believe anyone is so sensitive that no one can talk about farting around them. I would find it tiresome if someone loudly said the same joke over and over so in that respect I understand why it was annoying. I can’t get the fuss over toilet humour though it’s not like they were all deliberately farting or the dgf did a poo on the table of something.

Santawontbelong · 29/10/2017 15:35

The grandfather was put in time out. ..
We were sat in the party area as it had a bigger table. There was only that other family in the same area. My dc were quietly eating so it was difficult not to hear every word. Why should I stay in because I don't want to hear people talking about anti social habits?

OP posts:
ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 29/10/2017 15:36

I don't fart in front of anyone if I can help it, even my partner. I don't think that's insane and repressed.

Some couples find hilarity in each other's flatulence, a real fart fest with comments like "better out than in! What a stinker!" and some don't.

Each to their own Smile

I wouldn't be offended if someone was joking about a fart in my ear shot though. Life's too short to get offended over small unimportant issues.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 29/10/2017 16:11

Why is op getting crap for being fed up at this, when his own family banished him from the table because of his antics? Grin
He sounds like one of those loud, obnoxious bores that everyone dreads being stuck within earshot of; it just happened to centre round farting...
