To think DD should vomited by now?

I know this a strange question.

Obviously I would prefer my child to be well than ill and I'm sure we've gotten off lightly but is it strange than DD has never vomited at 4.5 years old?

Other than bringing up milk as a baby she's never been sick. We've had colds & runny bottoms but never actually any vomit.

I'm not complaining as tbh I'm not good with sick anyway but I'm just curious as to whether it's unusual? All my parent friends have cleaned up their fair share of puke.

Ds is 10. He has had one or two vomitting bugs in his life ( the ones where you put fleece blankets all over a sofa, and give him his old potty to be sick into repeatedly).
He has had one-offs too that then necessitate 48 hours off school - but they're pretty rare too - maybe once every two years?

crow2018 · 29/10/2017 09:55

A lot of things make me vomit but I've never had diarrhoea in my life and I'm 23 now, I think different people just react differently to things

Lules · 29/10/2017 10:00

I'll swap my very vomity toddler if you like. I couldnt begin to count how many times he's been sick. All the family gets travel sick.

MommyVan · 29/10/2017 10:00

My DD is similar. First bug age 5, she was sick only once. Then sick recently after general anaesthetic which I don’t think counts. Otherwise nothing! Gets the occasional cold and is prone to ear infections though.

DS1 and DS2 however have both had heaps of tummy bugs (as toddlers / preschoolers mainly) over the years, usually vomiting rather than diarrhoea.

Just depends on the kid I guess.

WhooooAmI24601 · 29/10/2017 10:02

DS1 used to vomit every time he had an ear infection, so we're expert puke-catchers. He suffers migraines and if he can't access his medicines quickly enough when one begins he'll be sick, but I don't think he's ever had a stomach bug in his life.

DS2 had silent reflux as a newborn and would projectile vomit to the point of lunacy; I remember once he was sat on DH after a feed in our front room and I heard a 'boom'. DS2 was sat, smiling, as the tv, sky box and xbox on the other side of the room were dripping with his projectile aim. Since hitting the three month mark though I don't think he's ever vomited since and he's nearly 7. Some children just don't vomit much, though my Aunt maintains that the reason our DCs are never sick is that they've grown up around farms and stables and with lots of pets in the countryside. I don't think I believe that, though, it's more likely just chance.

DH has only been sick once since I've known him, from food poisoning in Egypt. I just don't think we're a sick-y family. Now I've said that there'll be a tsunami of vomit to punish me!

waitingforlifetostart · 29/10/2017 10:05

I'm in my 30s and have only had 3 bouts of sickness in my life. One was a stomach bug and 2 bouts were food poisoning. I do, however, get every cold going.

unhingedtoday · 29/10/2017 10:07

Watching this thread with interest as I am a huge vomit phobe, written on here about it many times but name changed since then!

furryelephant · 29/10/2017 10:08

Dd isn’t even 1 yet and I’ve woken up twice to her projectile vomiting... barely missing my face as we cosleep Envy

motheroftwojedi · 29/10/2017 10:12

DS is 6.5 and vomited for the first time in his life in the summer holidays.

internetCrazies · 29/10/2017 10:13

My three kids (10, 7 and 5) are almost never ill.
DS (5) has vomited once because I have him Calpol for his first headache. Turns out Calpol makes him throw up.
DD(7) just twice.
DD(10) possibly three times.

I've cleaned sick up 6 times in a decade. Between them all they've had a total of three days off school.

Sara107 · 29/10/2017 10:14

Some people seem to be vomitters and some not. For example, one of my nieces used to routinely throw up, every bug, every time she ate too many sweets etc. As an adult, viruses still seem to make her vomit. My dD (luckily!!) has only had a few vomiting bugs even when they are going through the school like wildfire. Has had car sickness a few times though! Somebody told me some folks are genetically immune or at least quite resistant to norovirus. Don't know if that's true or some people are just lucky!

Witchend · 29/10/2017 10:21

Some children don't seem to get sickness bugs. Mine don't, although dd2 will be sick sometimes with a migraine, and ds is sometimes sick if his temperature comes up slightly. None of them tend to get colds either. And when they have had a sickness bug it's usually confined to one child, unusual for them to pass it on to each other.
My dnes have regular sickness bugs which get passed round the whole family.
It's odd because I'd say dsis is a lot more careful about cleaning, especially when they're ill than me.

Whinesalot · 29/10/2017 10:26

You haven't lived until you've attempted to catch it in your hands and failing miserable to prevent it going all over the carpet.

I know a sicky family where any illness, however mild, goes straight to their stomachs. Thankfully ours are more cast iron like.

DandelionAndBedrock · 29/10/2017 10:35

I was at school with a girl who vomited frequently but never cried. We realised when she was 16 that situations that make people cry just made her vomit.

I'd count yourself lucky Wink.

TheWhyteRoseShallRiseAgain · 29/10/2017 10:39

Dd2 isn't really a vomiter, although has many an interesting "event" in dhs words from the other end when ill. Dd1 has done her share although at 7 now more or less makes it to the loo or a bowl

Mulberry72 · 29/10/2017 10:39

DS is 11 and has never vomited, I’m 45 and have vomited maybe 3/4 times in my life.

Dumbledoresgirl · 29/10/2017 10:41

Ds2 is nearly 20 and has been sick 5 times that I can recall (and I have emetophobia so remember these things better than most) all between the ages of 2 and 7.

Ds3 is 14 and he only had one tummy bug in his life when he was 10, though he has been sick 4 other times (ate a bad egg, drank too much too quickly, and twice was airsick).

juddyrockingcloggs · 29/10/2017 10:44

My little boy turned 6 on the 13th of October. We were on holiday last week and we all caught a D&V bug. That was the FIRST time he has ever been sick and that includes as a baby. He has been poorly before, with a cold and he was once hospitalised with Pneumonia when he was 4 but he had never been sick. He was shocked and wondered what was going off. I just think he’s been lucky and I’m grateful for it especially with so many bugs going round school etc.

SpareASquare · 29/10/2017 10:47

I am pretty sure my 12 year old vomited when she was around 2 and has been to the doctors maybe twice since then.
Actually, she had quite a bad UTI which took a few dr visits a couple of years ago.
My other kids are a lot closer in age so shared a lot of bugs when younger. Not a lot once past 5 or so.

Dumbledoresgirl · 29/10/2017 10:47

I meant to say that at least 2 of ds2's vomit were over excitement, not a bug.

And I should have said ds3 has had only one stomach bug so far in his life. Otherwise it makes him sound as though he is dead Shock

My other 2 kids have had slightly more vomit experiences, but neither were particularly sicky. Neither are my husband or i. He has had a couple of vomit bugs in the 23 years of our marriage. I havent vomited with a bug since i was 9. I am in my 50s.

TheFaerieQueene · 29/10/2017 10:49

I’m 52 and haven’t ever vomited. I might have when a baby, but since I could walk, I haven’t. Neither has my DF. My DM on the other hand.....
I wish I could have when I was pregnant as I spent 6 months feeling so nauseous, I couldn’t eat properly.

WowserBowser · 29/10/2017 10:50

I think people are more susceptible to different bugs.

We don't get D&V. Maybe a bit of D (me and dh) - I don't recall my DS having either and he is 6.

Ds does get coughs and colds though. I used to get tonsillitis a lot and had my tonsils out. They were fine for years but now if I catch a bug off him it can turn in to the most awful no tonsil tonsillitis.

It's a bit like the current thread about about threadworms and nits. Someone pointed out that kids tend to get one or the other.

isittimetogotobed · 29/10/2017 11:16

My son has never vomited and he is 13. His brother has once. It's weird isn't it because my sister is sick on a weekly basis.

greenapplesplatter · 31/12/2017 23:56

UPDATE - in case anyone was remotely interested. I just remembered that I posted this a while ago!!

DD experienced had her first vomiting episode yesterday - all over the brand new sofa & carpet.

Hoping it's another 4.5 years until the next one tbh Shock

That's cool, OP!

We're a pukey family. ExH and middle child vomit at anything; excitement, fear etc. It's quite something!
