Christmas present for new bf

Morning, everyone.

Long time lurker first time poster

Been with my boyfriend for 3 months, relationship is just fabulous, actually moved together.

Question: what do I get him for Christmas? What should the budget be? Around £100? I don’t want to over spend and look ridiculous. He is a software developer however I don’t think it should be something related to IT/technology as he has every single gadget he could.

Ideas, please? Smile

My software developer DH likes gadgets like really good headphones (noise reduction padded Sennheisers etc), or dystopia/sci fi books. Is he a reader? I can give some book recommendations if so. Or does he like games?

SleepingStandingUp · 28/10/2017 05:18

How about comic? This guy is good

Ask him what he would like?

islurpmyspaghetti · 28/10/2017 07:43

I think the answer is tickets for an “experience” in the New Year. Theatre or gig or some brilliant date like the Crystal Maze live. You can get a token gift to accompany it. Something to look forward to and another good date for 2018.

AlternativeTentacle · 28/10/2017 07:45

start as you mean to go on, and set a budget that each of you stick to. We don't spend any more than £30 on each other at christmas.

WhatwouldAryado · 28/10/2017 07:55

What other interests does he have? Then Google house ideas (If you like them) around that. I long for a TARDIS front door but I am not brave enough. I get by with my a biscuit jar and Dale money box. For now. But one day I will ..

sayyouwill · 28/10/2017 08:48

Does he drink? Could get him a beer making kit or something like that.
Or a couples cookery class in a restaurant (all the Thai ones around here offer these and they look mint!)
Or some kitchen gadget if he likes to cook?
An Amazon Echo maybe?

misscheery · 28/10/2017 14:11

Some great ideas here, thank you all!

That was about the budget I went with for my DH our first Christmas. I bought him a boxed set, novelty video game, and some clothes.

If we'd just got together I'd get tickets to stand up comedy as he loves that. Maybe drinks and dinner (low key) first.

Good luck! It'll be fab Smile

I hate, hate, hate experience presents. But that’s not really the point.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 28/10/2017 14:55

My ex loved coffee so I got him a monthly subscription for posh coffee which he loved. He got a different variety each month.

LeekyGeeky · 28/10/2017 15:02

PastaOfMuppets Snap! My DH is exactly the same!

Good headphones, books are always a winner.

Look through his wardrobe and see what he wears/might need? Cashmere sweater? Or does he like vinyl? sports kit? paintings?

Nikephorus · 28/10/2017 16:30

Why not discuss budgets with him?! Then you'll have a better idea of what would be too cheap / too expensive. And if you also asked him for some ideas you'd be getting him something he'd like too.
The added bonus of this is that you'd not need to post an AIBU after Christmas saying that he'd spent too little / too much or been marginally ungrateful for the lovely hand-knitted woolly jumper you'd given him that he couldn't wear because it made him itch, was too small and was in a colour that he'd told you he'd never been seen dead in but that you had the wool for anyway. Does he play games on Steam? Maybe a voucher, if they do them, or a game?

sunandmoonshine · 28/10/2017 16:48

You moved in together after THREE MONTHS? Confused

Why?

AlternativeTentacle · 28/10/2017 16:56

That was from DH

Likes male authors doesn't he?

SleepingStandingUp · 28/10/2017 16:59

sunandmoonshine
Why not?
DH and I moved in together after 4 months. Engaged at 6 months. Married at 18 months. Baby 2 years after that. We may have only been together as long as some people date but we're happy

VladmirsPoutine · 28/10/2017 17:02

sunandmoonshine On the flip side, I have lived with people I only met once I'd already moved in. Granted the OP is in a relationship with this man but they aren't cell mates. Smile

clockworklime · 28/10/2017 17:03

Why are you asking total strangers on the internet what to buy your boyfriend for his birthday? Surely of all the people in this thread, you know him the best?

clockworklime · 28/10/2017 17:04

~his birthday~ Christmas

Confused
