To think this tea is fine for a 3yo?

DF visiting today just asked ‘Aren’t you going to give him something more substantial?’ as I served DS the following:

Bread and butter
Pom Bears
Fresh tomato
Cheese cubes
Raisins
Yoghurt (sneaky protein yoghurt, as he is off meat atm)

He’s just being an arse, isn’t he? Is he?

Its not the healthiest or freshest meal you could give a kid. Is this a one off or a classic corkscrew creation?

lookingforthecorkscrew · 27/10/2017 17:36

We ate out for lunch, Mexican, where DS ate guacamole, sweet potato, tortilla, frijoles. So I figured a picnic style tea would be ok.

Sounds perfectly fine to me

Rheged · 27/10/2017 17:37

It’s absolutely fine.

Popskipiekin · 27/10/2017 17:37

You've described my "argh why won't you eat anything" meal substitute. Not really a proper meal, more a collection of snacks. Absolutely fine as occasional one-off I would have thought.

Orangebird69 · 27/10/2017 17:38

Some days my son lives off Skips and grapes. Looks fine to me!

grannysmiff · 27/10/2017 17:38

As a picnic tea its no problem.

thebear1 · 27/10/2017 17:38

Sounds fine, especially after what he had for lunch. More varied than what I have eaten today.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 27/10/2017 17:38

I’m just a bit insecure about his diet as I am overweight myself, and have had barbed comments from family members along the lines of ‘I hope you don’t feed DS like that’ (DS is exactly perfect weight for height)

Having been out for lunch I think that's perfect for tea! I often do the same with my 22 month old if he's had a proper meal at midday it's a lighter tea, similar to how i eat!

PandorasXbox · 27/10/2017 17:39

Fine every now and then. Does he have it a lot?

grannysmiff · 27/10/2017 17:39

What kind of thing would you normally give him?

Ploppie4 · 27/10/2017 17:39

As a contrast to the nice Mexican, it’s fine. Not enough veggies though

PinkHeart5914 · 27/10/2017 17:40

As he ate well at lunch it’s fine!

lookingforthecorkscrew · 27/10/2017 17:41

He’s incredibly fussy about vegetables usually, and I wish I could get more into him. It’s an ongoing struggle! I do serve him vegetables - but he never eats them.

Given he ate a “proper” meal at lunch I can’t see anything wrong with it.

That said ds has refused to eat any tea tonight so his “tea” has been a small bag of popcorn after school.

DS had babybel, strawberries and whipped cream (the green Halloween one!) for supper last night.

He had a decent lunch (mixed veg, corn on the cob, grilled chicken breast, noodles) so he'll live.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/10/2017 17:48

Seems to be quite high in sugar. I wouldn't recommend that on a regular basis but on occasion shouldn't be a problem.

Me264 · 27/10/2017 19:55

I think it’s absolutely fine, if you’d put the cheese and tomato inside the bread it would’ve been a normal sandwich? What’s the problem with that?

For comparison, my 20 month old DS had a scone with jam for tea. Followed by Greek yoghurt.

He had pasta bolognese for lunch (with hidden veg), a pear and a satsuma for morning/afternoon snack, a banana with breakfast. So he only needed a light tea.

baffledcoconut · 27/10/2017 20:50

Mine had a punnet of raspberries and half a pint of milk. Yours is a win compared to that.

MrsKoala · 27/10/2017 20:57

i'd cry with happiness if my kids ate that - so to me it looks fantastic. Today ds1 has had sweet toasted waffles for breakfast, chicken sandwich and hula hoops for lunch and 3 hot dogs and ketchup for dinner. oh and an ice cream.

inthekitchensink · 27/10/2017 20:57

It’s absolutely fine! Nice easy tea with plenty of goodness

stoplickingthetelly · 27/10/2017 21:06

Seems fine to me, especially as you ate out at lunch. Gosh there are days here where my 2 year old refuses anything except yoghurt and cake.

livingthegoodlife · 27/10/2017 21:13

absolutely fine, my children have snacky type dinners occasionally too.
