To think i should have lost some weight?

I am very overweight and for the last 2 weeks I've cut out sugar. This is massive for me as on a regular day I would eat a sharing bag of chocolate, biscuits, sweets on top of my usual meals. So now I am eating the same but minus the 1000s of calories of all the sugar treats. So, for example, a usual day will be -

Breakfast - wholemeal toast with cashew nut butter, banana
Lunch - 1x ham sandwich or a sausage roll, grapes
Dinner - sausage casserole, greek yoghurt and then fruit

Sometimes I've had pizza and unhealthy options but no different to my usual diet just minus all the snacks. Sometimes i was eating up to 2000 calories in sugar filled snacks.

I am sticking with it but its a but gutting not to see a massive difference. Ive lost 4 pounds but nothing this week. Surely it should be falling off given I am 4 stone overweight?

Also, make sure you’re drinking lots of water. Lack of hydration can slow down weight loss.

honeyroar · 27/10/2017 18:01

I did this from January to June and lost one and a half stones. I didn't cut out carbs, I ate TONS of fruit. I didn't count calories. It was slow but sure progress - I lost inches before weight, but I wrote everything down and plotted losses on a graph. I followed general advice on the I Quit Sugar Facebook page, which is just eat real food. I've gradually fallen off the waggon over the last two or three months, haven't put anything back on and need to pick it up again. The weight loss had plateaued and I think I perhaps needed to start exercising to keep it going, but I am still two dress sizes smaller and much better.

Don't let people knock you - you're doing well.

Jasminedes · 27/10/2017 18:12

Honestly, just keep doing what you are doing, you are now in a healthier spiral, because as you feel better you will want to be more active. If you can keep not eating the sweets through the festive period, and into the new year, what a great achievement that would be. Having stopped sweets myself this week, I bet you are not even craving them that much now, and enjoying other food more. You might have to go through falling off the wagon and getting back on again a few times, once you've learned how to do that and minimise damage, you will be really onto something.

Ham isn't good. It is full of sodium nitrate which is bad news. Sausage rolls have no nutritional content just a load of fat. Hummous and Greek yoghurt are very fattening, and so are felafels.

Lots and lots of veg and lean protein to replace some of the carbs and fatty stuff. Fat is not bad per se, but it needs to be coconut oil or olive oil unheated. Sausages also full of preservatives and fat with minimal protein content.

shouldaknownbetter · 27/10/2017 18:22

Well, each to their own but I've just enjoyed eating a plate of bacon, cheese and sausage and I'm losing weight at a rate of knots (7lbs in 2 weeks) so looks like the low carb is working, regardless of calorie deficit.(Haven't counted calories in years, but I can't believe I'm eating less than 2000 cals per day, all low carb high fat though)

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 27/10/2017 18:24

Definitely just carry on as you are ... please don’t get disheartened, honestly it will work. Don’t weigh yourself weekly and aim for a couple of pounds a month ...

"Fat is not bad per se, but it needs to be coconut or olive oil unheated"

What a croc of shit Grin

I'd love to go through this thread and highlight all the absolute nonsense some people have posted.

But I'd be here all night!

Keep it simple OP, and keep doing what your doing.Flowers

1-2lb a week is a healthy weight loss, if you've lost 4lb in two weeks you're doing well! Don't beat yourself up, everyone's different. If I eat 2,000 calories per day I put on weight, for others they maintain on that amount. I need to eat 1,200 and exercise 4x per week to lose 2lb per week, others can eat far more and lose double what I do. It can be disheartening but after a while you'll get to know your own body and what works for you. You're obviously already on the right track, you'll have good weeks and bad ones.

chocorabbit · 27/10/2017 23:59

Most people don't get fat because they eat yoghurt or humus (which I hate) but because they drink tonnes of soft drinks and eat junk like the ones the OP used to. It's still the beginning and she can of course further improve her diet. Drinking full fat milk won't make somebody fat but drinking coke will. As if people still cook using lard nowadays! Unless they eat pizza's loaded with cheese, creams, sausages etc. But a balanced diet with some butter on toast is fine.

Just realized how complicated it can be to eat healthily and make good few choices. Can anyone recommend a good book on nutrition to get me started. I am diabetic, want to lose weight, control my high blood pressure and get rid of my stagece4 breast cancer.

Imfinehowareyou · 28/10/2017 00:18

Congrats OP, you have done really well.
Have you taken any measurements? To be healthy your waist should measure half your height (or less). I'm 61 inches tall (5ft 1") so need a waist measurement of 30.5"
I'm almost there after 4 weeks of cutting out crap, even though the scales aren't saying what I want yet!!

The Blood Sugar Diet by Michael Mosely has been shown to reverse diabetes. It's quite hardcore, for short periods, but there's lots of scientific explanation in the book. Have a read and then a chat with your GP.

Lunalovepud · 28/10/2017 10:21

Firstly OP, well done for recognising that you need to make some changes and for making them. Smile

Pp's saying you need to create a calorie deficit are absolutely correct... The only way to lose weight is eat less and move more, it's just finding a way to do it.

I lost 2.5 stone in baby weight in 3 months on slimming world and am back in it now after another baby. It's so easy to do, no weighing or loads of rules and it worked for me. That's obviously not to say it will work for you but might be worth a look. There are slimming world threads on mumsnet and you can join online if you don't want to go to a group.

Good luck with everything!

You do know what hummus is right? Chickpeas and olive oil +flavourings? Falafels Greek yoghurt and hummus are wonderful tasty parts of a balanced diet.

Altwoo · 28/10/2017 13:44

Cutting out the treats means you won’t be putting on weight anymore, but 2000 calories will mean you maintain instead.

You’ve done well so far - you’re stopping the weight gain - but now you need to cut back further in order to actually lose weight.

Damnthatonestaken · 28/10/2017 14:34

Well done op for improving your diet! Give it a bit longer, 2 wee isnt necess enough time to see results. Can i suggest adding a few more veggies in there over time

redfish18 · 08/11/2017 09:42
