AIBU to think this is a fantastic present

It's my birthday today, so yesterday DH took DS (age 3) to buy me a present, safe in the knowledge that my main present had been delivered and just needed to be wrapped. So I'm now the proud owner of a 10 colour Star Wars biro (and a packet of Tangfastics). It's the sort of thing I'd never ever buy for myself (well maybe the Haribo) and I think it's a brilliant present. Can't wait till I next have to take notes at work.

Anyone else had any obscure but fantastic presents from their kids?

I want the Star Wars biro too.

Ds2 picked out this batgirl cube for mothers day this year.

Ooh you lucky duck! DS once chose me a very nice Shetland pony pencil case - I love it

BeALert · 26/10/2017 19:46

I don't know what tangfastics are but now I want some.

As for the biro, that's brilliant.

My Mother's Day Parker from 2016 is used everyday I'm at work. Always makes me smile.

A freezer bag with a slice of cheddar and 3 grapes after she remembered I said how good the cheesecourse was at a previous meal out.

My DD (3) brought me a soft toy dog for my last birthday which she told me was called Ralf!! I love it. 3 is the BEST age!!

buckeejit · 26/10/2017 20:03

Love it! Am going to do the £1 thing for birthdays & Christmas-what a great idea!

Love the cheese course present 😃

Bluetrews25 · 26/10/2017 20:03

DS2 got me a soft toy dog, of the same rarely-seen breed as our recently departed beloved pet.
He was 20 at the time. Grin

DD once had a tantrum in Boots because I wouldn't let her buy a pregnancy test for DH as an xmas present. She wanted to buy it because she'd been with me when I bought one and I'd told her it was something special that Mummies buy.

I can't remember what she bought instead.

ProseccoMamam · 26/10/2017 20:09

Ds1 is 7 and DS2 is 1 so I only have cards signed from them at the moment along with presents bought by DH from the kids. However DS1 picks me flowers each time he goes to play football with his dad at the park, I’m dreading the dad he stops thatSad

My daughter (with help from my
Mum) made me a mobile phone case. It's vivid pink and made out of that holey fabric used for teaching kids to sew. She sewed loads of lovely colours on with random knots and threads. I love it so much and use it all the time Smile

My little girl came back from her first school disco yesterday with her dad and had stopped at the shop to get me some curly whiry’s on the way home.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1, Happy Birthday to you, too! Flowers Cake

DeathByMascara · 26/10/2017 20:28

Omg, the cheese course one is fantastic!

DH asked DD what she’d like to buy me for my birthday, and she insisted it had to be Dirty Dancing. He was confused until I explained that Hungry Eyes came on the car radio weeks ago & I told her it was from my favourite film and when she was a bit older, we would watch it together under a blanket. Bless her, she remembered the conversation weeks later & nothing else would do!

Alexindisguise · 26/10/2017 20:29

We do the £1 shop thing, it's fab and the highlight of every Christmas and birthday to see what he's picked.

I've had a compact mirror, brush, hair clip and bubble bath.

Dh usually gets some sort of tool.

NoCryingInEngineering · 26/10/2017 23:09

Happy birthday hardknocklife

I apparently chose a 'With Deepest Sympathy' card for my Dad's birthday when I was about DS's age because I liked the pretty flowers. The power of 3yr old logic.

I think the cheese course present is the best of all though

When my daughter was about 6 I had to take her to the shop to buy a Mothers Day present for me (I was a lone parent).
I waited outside (watching) while she put things in the basket & took them to the till. I then had to go in and pay with my eyes shut. (And wait until the next day for the surprises).
Makes me fill up with tears now - 22 years later. She's still lovely. Smile

Haudyerwheesht · 26/10/2017 23:28

Stationery is always a good present - I will remind dh of this next time my birthday comes round.

He always lets dd choose me something - memorably a sheep cookie jar and then a wooden duck. I don't have a particular interest in farmyard animals but .... whatever

AutumnalLeaves38 · 26/10/2017 23:37

Such creative, sweet and funny ideas from everyone's kids, which make perfect sense to them, if not always to parents. Smile

Here's to them never losing their gift of imagination.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 26/10/2017 23:50

Happy Birthday to all of you October-ites.

What fab presents so many of you are so lucky to have had.

My best one was one Mother's Day. DD's nursery had got them all decorating a mirror (????) in a frame. DD handed it over saying "I made you this. Oh, it's a bit broken" and all I could think was "OMG.... 7 years bad luck.... She's going to die". I still have the broken mirror. And even luckier, still have my lovely DD. She's 16 next month.

RedBullBlood · 27/10/2017 00:15

I used to cross stitch a lot and my dd (then about 7) bought me a Beatrix Potter cross stitch kit, for the letter 'Y'. Don't actually know anyone who has a name beginning with Y. It was from a charity shop, obviously Yvonne/Yolande/Yvette wasn't keen on it.

steff13 · 27/10/2017 01:55

My kids bought me a stuffed Eeyore from the Disney store for my birthday this year. It might be my favorite gift ever. They went and picked it out themselves and bought it with their own money. ❤️
