Am I a Victorian pearl clutcher or is this rude?

At a hotel went for breakfast met other colleagues and on the table next to us is another lady, she’s got her iPad propped up on the table watching an episode of something..without headphones. No awareness of others around her that she might be disturbing me this isn’t normal is it?

I’m in hotels a lot and more and more people are doing this sort of thing. Are headphones suddenly obsolete?

Lazy I'm surprised by the mention of Germans twice on the thread. I live in Germany and have never even seen anyone watch an iPad/ tablet in public without headphones here, and rarely seen them watched in public at all (including children). The only place I've seen the tablet blaring loud thing is Paris - and the culprit was an English parent with a toddler at a bus stop.

The iPad (other brands too) use wouldn't upset me if it was a tv programme or film as long as the volume was at a reasonable level. Voices just blend into the background. But music, even quiet, jangles my nerves. That's the bit that would annoy me.

'People are not mind readers'

You don't have to be a mind reader to know that having a show or game on in a public room is really likely to annoy most of the people there, you just need to have a basic awareness of the fact that other people genuinely exist with their own interests which are separate from yours.

Rude. I can't stand passive aggressive shite though so I think I might have asked her to turn it down. Not sure 🤷🏻‍♀️

I once did this accidentally - I hadn't put the earphone jack in properly but some sound was still coming through the earphones - I cranked up the volume oblivious to the fact everyone around me was now subjected to it☺️. What made it worse was the fact I was listening to a very rude and sweary episode of Shameless. 😂😳

People occasionally do this in the break from at work - immensely annoying!
