If at first you don’t succeed, give up and do something easier.

That is the mantra that has seen me right.

poorpaws · 24/10/2017 22:25

Do unto others ...

delilahbucket · 24/10/2017 22:25

More haste, less speed.
Patience is a virtue.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
Count the pennies and the pounds will add themselves up.
It all boils down to influence and change. If you can't influence or you can't change, don't waste your energy.
Pick your battles.
Treat others how you wish to be treated yourself.

bigsighall · 24/10/2017 22:27

It's nice to be important but it's much more important to be nice.

Better to get there late than never get there at all (when talking about rushing when driving)

We ain't saving babies (i.e. It's not that important)

Chuck it in the fuckit bucket

It's gone in the too complicated box

My dad always used to say to me "if you're going to do a job, do a good job. I've tried to keep to that one.

And also "you don't make your own candle shine any brighter by extinguishing someone else's". I don't think that's the actual phrase but the sentiment is there. I try to be kind.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 24/10/2017 22:28

And my old manager used to say if one of us made a mistake "at least nobody died" which helps me get perspective on cock ups.

Notmyrealname85 · 24/10/2017 22:30

Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it

Justgivemesomepeace · 24/10/2017 22:32

Not many things really matter, and most things don't matter at all.

Blowing put someone else's candle doesn't make yours shine brighter

Everyone has a gift, even if it's just the gift of the gab.

DrinkReprehensibly · 24/10/2017 22:34

You miss 100% of the shots you never take.

A bit cheesy but I heard someone random on the local news say it years ago and it's stuck with me and motivated me a couple of times when I've nearly pulled out of things for fear of failure.

VoodooCat · 24/10/2017 22:35

Never expect anything, then you won't be disappointed.

Worriedrose · 24/10/2017 22:36

When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.

Comparison is the thief of joy

Life is a bag of tricks - full of suprises

The grass isn't greener on the other side.... it's greener where you water it

SoftlyCatchyMonkey1 · 24/10/2017 22:45

Softly softly catchee monkey

Kitee · 24/10/2017 22:46

“He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.”

Kitee · 24/10/2017 22:48

Maybe not well known but the sentiment is the same; I judge people on how they treat animals.

Ladymayormaynot · 24/10/2017 22:49

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

Jellycatspyjamas · 24/10/2017 22:49

It'll be alright in the end, if it's not alright it's not the end.

Ships are safe in harbour but that's not what ships are made for.

What's for you won't go by you.

ticketytock1 · 24/10/2017 22:49

If it's for you it won't go by you
Waste not want not
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail
If you walk by it, you condone it
Jesus was lost, Jesus was found (a prayer I repeat when I can't find something, it ALWAYS works)
The serenity prayer... give me the courage to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference!

chipsandgin · 24/10/2017 22:51

Not my circus, not my monkeys 🐒

OlennasWimple · 24/10/2017 22:52

do unto others as you would have them do unto you

It's a small world (as a reminder that you never know who might know someone else that you know)

MorgaineLeFay · 24/10/2017 22:57

If what you're doing isn't working, try something else.

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

Crispyturtle · 24/10/2017 22:58

Don’t compare your inside to someone else’s outside. Especially useful in these days of social media when it looks like everyone has perfect lives.

I’m trying not to spend so much time worrying about the future, so if I start to obsess I ask myself ‘what have I got TODAY?’ just to try & focus on the positives.

IShouldntPostBut · 24/10/2017 23:03

Our family motto: Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 24/10/2017 23:04

Hard is hard, which isn't old at all but comes from a brilliant TED talk. It's sort of the kinder way of saying 'that might be a first world problem, but it's still a problem to you so how can I help you with it'

That and don't let your judgey pants give you a wedgie.
