Background - been on four dates. He's really fantastic. Really fab actually. Blush He cooked for me on Saturday - lemony chicken and a kind of fragrant sticky rice. He did chocolate creme brûlée for after, which was lovely. Simple but super tasty.

My "speciality" is lasagne. It's not very "attractive" though... Confused

Can I ask what you first cooked for your significant other and how it went? Any tips? I know we both hate mushrooms...

Lighthearted - so comments about impressing men with cooking and being the "little woman" are unnecessary for this thread. No bun fights unless they are olive focaccia... Wink- this is something I want to do and want to do well Grin

Thanks in advance

Chicken thighs stuffed with boursain and weapped in parma ham. A side of rosemary and garlic roast potatoes and I assume some kid of green veg too though can't remember what. He still asks for this all the time 10 years later 😂

maras2 · 24/10/2017 19:39

Thanks mememe
It was actually 49 years ago.But who'se counting?Grin
Good job that we're 'Boomers' and can afford lamb chops coz we've retired on massive pensions.Grin
That's irony, but lamb is so blooming expensive.

I have the memory of an elephant but can’t recall what I cooked for DH. The first time he cooked for me was Thai Chicken Curry which was very spicy but really yummy.

Iseesheep · 24/10/2017 20:00

Chicken super noodles.

darkfruits · 24/10/2017 20:35

we had a fajita night!

TheWernethWife · 24/10/2017 22:36

Spag Bol, garlic bread and a bottle of red wine. Still together 30 years later.

EB123 · 24/10/2017 22:53

Pasta bake in his parents kitchen!

tealandteal · 25/10/2017 00:11

Lasagne! I made a starter with avocado, bacon and onions only for him to reveal later he hates onions and bacon. When I cut in to mine the avocado was rock hard which I somehow hadn't noticed when I was preparing it. DH had never had it before so insisted it was nice. Confused

I was 20... I pushed the boat out and cooked duck. It was the only thing I trusted myself not to fuck up...
he arrived at my house with sweeties for my 3 year old, marks and Spencer’s desserts-loads of them! The mousses with chocolate shavings and the profiteroles with mousse, a giant box of Swiss chocolate, and he stopped by boots and bought me a bottle of JPG. I remember the evening so fondly!

sadandanxious · 25/10/2017 00:20

Chilli con carne. Managed to melt my pan in the process too - in student accommodation, had bought a cheap arse pan used on an induction hob and melted the plastic. So whilst I made the chilli con carne we then had to go to his and he made the rice as I didn't have a spare pan Smile

He loved it and despite my mishap which he found hilarious, he went down very well

DaisyRaine90 · 25/10/2017 00:21

Smoked haddock, mash, peas and carrots 😊

ivykaty44 · 25/10/2017 00:26

Fish cakes was the first meal I cooked

Lasagna sounds wonderful to me with side salad and red wine who cares what it looks like and why not be yourself and cook what you know will be wonderful

Eilasor · 25/10/2017 00:26

It was salmon with rice, leeks and broccoli. However, I can't cook, so we ended up with pizza. It's definitely the thought that counts OP, don't worry about it!

sadandanxious · 25/10/2017 00:28

ursula can I ask what's in your red Dragon pie?

DandelionAndBedrock · 25/10/2017 00:30

We were students. He called my flat on the internal phone to say he wanted to cook risotto, had bought all the ingredients and was in the kitchen in his flat but was a bit stuck.

I went over to rescue him and he was looking blankly at all the packets whilst his awful flatmate kept saying "just fry some bacon and add that". I wasn't invited to stay and eat it though...

ephemeralfairy · 25/10/2017 00:30

Fried mushrooms on a toasted wholemeal bagel (for breakfast)

That night for dinner: chicken and asparagus risotto

Smitff · 25/10/2017 00:40

I did a mushroom risotto but clearly that’s no good for either of you! You could do a pea and pancetta thing? Put some twirly foraged pea shoot type thingies/ lavender flowers on top? No cooking involved, but it’d look like you’d made a huge effort by just plonking the stuff on top Grin

I didn’t even bother to think about dessert Blush

Seren85 · 25/10/2017 00:55

My were only 17 and his parents went away so I made fajitas (box kit) and a god awful sausage casserole that was so horrific we got a takeaway instead. The first thing he ever cooked for me was one of this stir n sauce curry things. If I were doing it now if make the Hairy Bikers Steak and Ale pie plus a lemon drizzle cake. Easy but look and taste good.

RosyPony · 25/10/2017 00:57

A really nice pie from Wholefoods, yummy and easy to prep, served with potatoes, veg and wine. Lots of wine.

Hidingtonothing · 25/10/2017 01:02

Can't remember what I first cooked for him but do remember the first thing he cooked me was egg and chips Smile Proper home made chips (which I hadn't had in years), fried eggs with runny yolks and bread with salted butter, I knew then he was a keeper Grin

DeliveredByKiki · 25/10/2017 01:02

I was asking student so it was a Chinese fried rice with turkey and courgettes. Was my speciality at the time and dead cheap.

He first cooked for me a week later and did stuffed rainbow trout with baby new potatoes and asparagus, and home made a choc mousse for desert. Def led me into a false idea that he cooked like that all the time (he ate a bowl of peas for his Christmas dinner!)

LellyMcKelly · 25/10/2017 01:46

The easiest (and the best) dinner is a thick rib eye steak, rocket salad, and a loaf of fresh bread. 15 minutes from start to finish. Bottle of Malbec. He won’t care about pudding.

oldlaundbooth · 25/10/2017 01:48

I cooked chicken pasta pesto for DH.

He cooked me a chicken salad. I was Confused there were no spuds.

oldlaundbooth · 25/10/2017 01:51

Some fairly fancy cooking on here.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 25/10/2017 02:00

fish-finger sandwich with bacon, a what?!

I'm a bit shocked at the proposal/pregnancy reveal on the first time you'd/they'd cooked.

If you like lasagne how about buying two individual dishes OP? That would look much nicer. Just make sure they're rectangular so it's not too difficult to get the pasta to fit. It's nice with slices of sweet potato in it.
