Utter nonsense! It’s information that’s in the public domain. Security risk my arse.

sharklovers · 24/10/2017 16:26

What do you the bl happens on on Pistonheads where hundreds of pictures of cars are posted each day? Get a grip!

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 24/10/2017 16:28

I can see about 8 number plates from my living room window that I have no idea who owns. How exactly are those cars at risk? Confused

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 24/10/2017 16:30

Except that's totally different. On Google street view you know where the car is.

We have no idea!

Take the thread down if you want but don't peddle the bullshit reason of "security risk". It gives you credibility issues.

Clearly you don't remember this reprobate.

And even if someone did illegally PNC the car (ignoring why on Earth they would) - what would they do?!

sharklovers · 24/10/2017 16:33

On PH you’ll find several threads for both great and rubbish number plates that have been spotted by users. More than a 1000 pages of pictures of cars/plates that don’t belong to the poster.

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 24/10/2017 16:33

Grin orlando!! Now you mention it I did see a few blank number plates earlier!

sharklovers · 24/10/2017 16:35

I saw NA11 ICE once.
Posted it too.

BTW - you didn’t

BishopBrennansArse · 24/10/2017 16:37

Did I not?
Either I’ve recounted the reg slightly wrong or it was deleted

Ooh, The Numbertaker. That's a blast from the past. My kids were all terrified of him...

Anyway, here's a quote from just one of the sites we've looked this up on -

"If you’re one of those car fanatics who often finds themselves on motoring websites, it may have come to your attention that car registrations are often blocked out or pixelated so as not to show the numbers and letters on the plates. And it isn’t just when the car – or the person in it – has been involved in a crime. So why does this happen?

Getting Consent

If, for some reason, you’re posting a photo online that includes someone else’s car registration, it’s usually fine as long as you have that person’s consent. Although number plates are in the public domain (a fact taken advantage of by Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson when he tweets the registrations of bad drivers he sees on the road), it is often frowned upon to give away anyone’s number plate without their knowledge – including if they’re just in the background of photographs posted to Facebook or Twitter."

lemonsandlimes123 · 24/10/2017 16:39

So if someone is unscrupulous enough to look up number plates, why would the fact there is a picture online of a car make any difference. Please can MN clarify exactly what the risk is?

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 24/10/2017 16:40

it is often frowned upon to give away anyone’s number plate without their knowledge

Seriously?? It’s frowned upon? That’s it. Come on!!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 24/10/2017 16:40

Still no seeing the "security issue".

Only seeing "frowning" and Jeremy Clarkson not giving a shit

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 24/10/2017 16:41

This is just silly now.

lemonsandlimes123 · 24/10/2017 16:41

Frowned upon? By whom exactly! Saying Cunt is frowned upon but people do it all over Mumsnet.

A ridiculous kneejerk reaction with no foundation

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 24/10/2017 16:42

We can't have frowning. It is a security risk apparently.

pisacake · 24/10/2017 16:43

Stop talking shite.

Google blur out number plates because they are massive insidious multitrillion dollar corporation and people rightly feel nervous about the amount of data they collect.

A number plate is public information and is DESIGNED so that cars can be identified. There is ZERO expectation of privacy for car and number plates on public roads.

Here's the police, rather than whatever random wank you linked to:

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 24/10/2017 16:43

Presumably "security risk" actually means "will give you wrinkles"??

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 24/10/2017 16:43

Cunt cunt cunt cunt cunt cunt can’t cunt.

sharklovers · 24/10/2017 16:44

I refer you back to PH who are very hot on not getting sued. You can post all the random pics of cars you like there.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 24/10/2017 16:44

Grin say what you really think pisacake

TuckersBadLuck · 24/10/2017 16:44

It's 'frowned upon' because it can reveal that a vehicle has been at a certain place at a certain time. That's all. If it's not a picture of a recognisable place and the pictures not timed then all it reveals is that the car exists, which we could find out from the gov.uk website in 30 seconds anyway.

pisacake · 24/10/2017 16:45

you literally linked to
[[//www.private-number-plates.co.uk]], which is about as official as my 10 year old's diary

Why would you take someone's personal website as a source on anything?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 24/10/2017 16:46

What was the site MNHQ?

www.tinfoilhatters.com?
