To want a seat for my large DC?

MrTrebus · 22/10/2017 11:42

Actually this title sounds a bit odd but I couldn't think of anything else.

My DD is nearly 6 months and she is big. 99th percentile when born and is now long and big and heavy! Don't get me wrong I love her to bits and she is totally the right size for her age etc just stating facts.

She is not yet crawling etc although she is rolling and likes to sit up. She has a bouncer type chair and has basically outgrown it but when I go to answer the door, have a shower etc I need somewhere to put her and it's perfect in front of the telly when I want a cup of tea

I've tried to Google large bouncers, baby chair etc etc they all seem to be up to 9kg which she is over. I know she'll be crawling soon and I can pop her in a play pen of some sort but what can I do for now? I can't leave her on her play mat etc as she now rolls over and could be in any position when I get back. AIBU to bring my baby in the shower with me because I can't think of a solution?! Help!

Use a playpen now then she can roll around to her hearts content

MrTrebus · 22/10/2017 12:06

Wow so many suggestions thank You! Good to see I'm not the only one that's come across this problem. I know it won't be for long but it's just a problem to overcome for now. The problem with a play pen or similar for now is that she can't fully sit up on her own yet and even with a few toys gets frustrated just laying down even for a short while which is why the chair in front of the telly for 20 mins whilst I have a shower etc has been a god send. The Fisher price larger chairs look good I'll look into those even if I do feel violated paying £50 for a short while. She also naps quite a bit in her chair which she wouldn't do just laying down on a mat etc. She's a complicated being! I think it's because she associated laying down with going to sleep at night, She seems to prefer a seated position. I will look further at all your suggestions thank you.

100% jumperoo!

Branleuse · 22/10/2017 12:07

The baby bjorn one is great. They can use it as a toddler seat too without the straps

HelloSquirrels · 22/10/2017 12:07

Ive got the Fisher price one and my 18 month old is comfortably napping in it still so it will last a while id think

LivingDeadGirlUK · 22/10/2017 12:14

We have the same problem as out 5 month old son is nearly 9kg and really long. Have ordered a jumperoo which should be coming tomorrow.

The bumbo is ok but it seems to encourage him to have explosive poos :(

MrTrebus · 22/10/2017 12:16

How does a jumperoo work though if the baby can't hold their own head up consistently? She does for a bit then flops it down for a bit then back up again. She hasn't yet got the balance to sit on her own with her head up either.

I got a mamas and papas baby snug seat second hand for a tenner and it's been great. My DD is also large and at 2 still fits in it and can't tip it over when she stands on it even! No fabric so works in the bathroom.

firsttimemama · 22/10/2017 12:19

These are great playnest

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 22/10/2017 12:20

The Mamas and Papas one encouraged my DD to support her own weight more. Really built up her core strength. She was wobbly in it at first so we used to put her in it for a few minutes at a time and we built it up. There is also an insert that you can take out as the babies get bigger.

permatiredmum · 22/10/2017 12:25

why can't you just leave her on the playmat? You are going to have to babyproof the room soon anyway

AprilShowers16 · 22/10/2017 12:32

We had this one which would support her head, I wouldn't use anything like a highchair or jumperoo if she doesn't have head control yet m.johnlewis.com/chicco-balloon-bouncer-grey/p2233699?sku=234766694&s_kwcid=2dx92700016891051355&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhLjh05CE1wIV9BbTCh2x8whMEAQYAiABEgL1qvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 22/10/2017 12:33

We used a door bouncer I brought to whichever room I was in. Much cheaper and easier to store than a jumperoo.

Otherwise maybe a highchair - dd had one you could lay back if she fell asleep.

Or elc used to do a sit up inflatable thing which supports then while they are learning to sit upright. nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 22/10/2017 12:36

Alternatively if u want to bring her in the shower we used to have a seat with suction cups which I used to stick to the bottom of the shower and take dd2 in with me. She loved it and then I didn't need to bath her seperately :)

Dairymilkmuncher · 22/10/2017 12:37

If you can get a playpen that goes round the foam floor tiles that would be safe to leave her for a shower/the loo waterever and could encourage her to roll about and shuffle so she isn't just laying there like she's going to sleep but playing with toys. You can get those circle inflatable rings that double up as a higher seat when they are older too usually have an animal head on the top

Ithastobeheinz · 22/10/2017 12:39

we had to buy this for my son at 5 months old because he was too big for any other baby chair

RandomMess · 22/10/2017 12:39

Think the baby born sitter would be perfect suitable from birth to 2 folds flat easily so portable. Suitable for naps as lays back.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 22/10/2017 12:42

The fisher price chairs are ace, and often to be found second hand for pennies. I bought mine for a fiver and it did two children. Absolute bargain.

MrTrebus · 22/10/2017 12:42

@permatiredmum there's a few reasons really she doesn't like to lay for long, she could roll over far enough to hit something (just moved so working on baby proofing as well as doing a new kitchen etc) or end up face down and suffocate (not being precious but she does tend to get tired and stop rolling and lay face down and that would stress me out mid shower) she's in a very in between stage but bigger than some 1 year olds so it's difficult.

I had huge babies too, one of them couldn’t sit unaided until she was 11 months and was on the 90+ centile!

trappedinsuburbia · 22/10/2017 12:52

I had the fisher price one for both mine.
When I went for a shower when ds was a baby I had a wooden high chair that turned into a toddler table and chair and I would sit him in the chair only bit with the tray in the bathroom with me!!
With DD I seemed to manage until she was old enough to put in a travel cot in the living room with her cuddly toys, she was quite mobile enough to sit and stand so no worries about suffocating etc.
www.prams.net/roba-convertible-wooden-high-chair-tray-natural-forest-wedding-d this is the high chair.

lalliella · 22/10/2017 12:53

Grin Oh OP you've brought back such a memory for me! DS was massive! And also floppy, and unable to sit unaided. His bouncer chair was stretched so much his bum was nearly on the floor!! We had one of those fabric cover rubber ring things which he loved but was somehow able to dive out of! And a high chair, with his toys on the table. And a babydan playpen, can't remember how old he was with that though.

MrTrebus · 22/10/2017 13:24

Such good suggestions. I think I'm going to go for a Fisher price toddler chair looks fab, some of the others were nice but too much money for us at the moment! Then move onto using the high chair more and travel cot later. Thank You!
