To be tearfully devastated at missing Cbeebies birthday announcement?

So I spent days making a beautiful card for my daughter Penny's 1st birthday. I put in so much effort, and then bought the massive envelope, paid the expensive postage cost, and set up all the various time slots to record the birthday announcements on the day (Friday 20th Oct).
I come home that evening and excitedly go through the recordings to find that my TiVo box inexplicably didn't record the lunchtime slot. It did the morning and evening slot, but the lunchtime recordings are just grey screens of Doom.
I put it to the back of my mind, believing that the card probably wasn't read out then anyway, only to be messaged THE NEXT DAY by my friend saying "ooh, I saw penny's card on TV".
I'm devastated. I've tried tweeting, facebooking and emailing Cbeebies and anyone affiliated with them, but they make it clear that they don't send out recordings.
I'm So Upset! I feel irrationally angry with BBC for not putting them on iPlayer. I'm angry at TiVo box for buggering up the recordings. I'm even angry at my friend for waiting a whole day to tell me it was shown.
Its just a card. My daughter wouldn't even understand, she's only one. But I was so proud and so excited. AIBU??! XX

@spungold1475 I'm sorry you missed it, that's pants. I've checked our box - as we sometimes have Katie series linked, but I think I've taken it off at the mo as there were so many repeats.

And I'd be sad too - yes there are worse things going on - but, I'd be sad to have missed it if it was for my DS. As long as they weren't hand drawn tellytubbies because they freak the goodness knows what out of me. Plus I'm a Penny too so it would have made me doubly smile had I seen it

Haha! So am I to be honest! Partivularly as I couldn't remember the word for 'arch' Grin Going to have to try and do it when my DH isn't around, otherwise he will think I'm crazy! Hope I can find it for you.

TheVanguardSix · 21/10/2017 21:44

That is such a bummer OP! I totally understand why you're gutted. I would be too.
I hope you manage to see it somehow, some way.

RadioGaGoo · 21/10/2017 21:45

Wakkywantswine. You can speak the truth without being a dick you know.

spungold1475 · 21/10/2017 21:51

I've tried messaging DesignatedSurvivor as recommended, in case they can help as well, but I really appreciate you looking, it would put a massive sparkler on top of Penny's birthday. Thank you!!

I'd be upset too. Yes there's worst things in the world, but you feel what you feel. You love your daughter and put in a lot of effort. Not sure why some people have to be such cunts about it. I hope you manage to find a recording.

Abra1d · 21/10/2017 21:58

That's such a shame. I hope you track it down!

ElizabethDarcey · 21/10/2017 22:02

I want this thread to end in 'the power of good on the internet' (and not meanies telling you you're being silly - you are not, it's an emotional time and you did something special).

Touchmybum · 21/10/2017 22:14

One day you will look back at this and laugh... my dad did a televised interview very shortly before he died, and the BBC were good enough to get us a copy of it. You could try contacting them to see.

CoffeeBreakIn5 · 21/10/2017 22:17

YANBU, I'd be upset too - of course she won't remember it but it's something you could show her when she's older. Of course, since this is mumsnet, you are absolutely not allowed to be upset over anything sentimental and must remain practical and stoic all times. But screw that, I'd be really upset. I hope User can help!

anotherprosecco · 21/10/2017 22:19

Oh, I can understand how disappointed you are! I sent a card up for my daughter's 3rd or 4th birthday in 1986/7 to Philip Schofield and Gordon the Gopher in the broom cupboard and would have been devastated to miss it. Luckily we didn't! Mind you, in those days it wasn't all these fancy homemade cards, but just an ordinary shop bought card... Still got the recording on VHS.

WallyWantsWine · 21/10/2017 22:19

I'm pretty sure my response is guessable, and thanks for assuming it would be dickish

Pretty rude of you, no, to practically call me a dick without be actually saying anything?

Sorry, special snowflake land here.

Everywhere.
EVERYWHERE

LoverOfCake · 21/10/2017 22:27

Think publishing your child's name on mn is considered to be pretty outing and bad form.

Aside from that, she's one, she doesn't care. She doesn't even know it's her birthday, and instead of making the lovely card for her first birthday and keeping it as a momentum you sent it to CBeebies where she wasn't going to actually see it anyway.

But then these birthday messages are all about pandering to the parents and nothing to do with the actual child so understandable that you were upset not to have seen it.

myshinynewusername · 21/10/2017 22:31

I think it was a sweet way of marking her first birthday, and I hope you find a recording OP. I'm sure she will enjoy watching it back in a few years. :)

I know that its not everyone's cup of tea, but I really can't understand why some people are being so negative.

BoucleJacket · 21/10/2017 22:42
Hmm

I doubt a 1 year old will care.

And you're "tearfully devastated"?

If it was that important to you then you should have arranged to watch it live.

spungold1475 · 21/10/2017 22:45

Haha, I was actually out fundraising for Breast Cancer Now. With my daughter. But I imagine I'll get criticism for that too.

I always invest waaaaayyy too much effort in mine. I did my first one for my eldest’s 2nd and I’ve said I’m stopping at 5. So I’ve still got another 4 to make before my youngest is 5.

No, the 1yo won’t care. But the video is nice as something to show them when they’re older. And for me, for ds2 and ds3 the 1st birthday card was actually more about the magic for their older sibling(s) who by then thought that every birthday is accompanied by a cbeebies card.

MerlinsScarf · 21/10/2017 22:49

I can't help but I hope you can find a recording from some kind person. I understand why you're disappointed, it's not for everyone but I enjoyed making a fuss of my DC for their first birthday.

It's the first time you can do all those cute kid's birthday things with them, and it doesn't do anyone any harm. Happy birthday to Penny!

spungold1475 · 21/10/2017 22:51

And I'm not entirely sure what anyone could do with my child's first name that would be so concerning..?

And the announcement included a shout out to get cousins that they would have loved too.

And I also made her a card for her to have at home with long personal messages from me and her dad that are now in her keepsake box.

And she had a lovely play day with friends today. And family lunch tomorrow.

Anyone else want to criticise my parenting skills? 😂

OP posts:
BoucleJacket · 21/10/2017 22:58

Nobody criticised your parenting skills.

Don't embellish what actually happened on this thread.

What actually happened was this:- a few posters questioned your over reaction and pointed out that a 1year old won't notice.

everydayanewday · 21/10/2017 22:59

To the pp who said it’s only for the parents.

I bloody hate doing them now. It’s hours and hours of work. Late nights and effort. Stress and faff.

I do them purely and solely for the reactions on my children’s faces. They absolutely love them. If they didn’t, I wouldn’t bother

DeadButDelicious · 21/10/2017 23:00

I completely get why you'd be upset, it's a nice thing to show her when she's older, her very first birthday on the telly. You did everything you could to record it and it went wrong. It's disappointing. I really hope you find the clip.

Oh! And happy birthday Penny. Smile

spungold1475 · 21/10/2017 23:02

I was referring to the person who said I was only doing it for myself. And the person who said I should have watched it live if it was that important.
That's not constructive.
Anyway, some lovely people on here have been very kind to look into it for me. No luck yet, but I'm very grateful to everyone for their help.
Off to bed now. It's been a long day.
Thanks everyone, goodnight.
Xx

OP posts:
BoucleJacket · 21/10/2017 23:05

None of that is criticising your parent skills.

However much you'd like that to be the case.

myshinynewusername · 21/10/2017 23:07

All first birthdays are really for the parent's/family. The dc don't remember, but most people make a fuss of the first birthday anyway.
