I was looking on pintrest last night and seen these (will attatch pic)

Would it be grim to give them out rather than sweets? I think they are fun. My sister thinks my house will be egged as a result.

To give fruit out on halloween?

Oh I wouldn't

Evelynismyspyname · 21/10/2017 17:39

People binning soft fruit will probably be binning anything home made too - not out of ingratitude but because of the very rare cases where things like that have been tainted with something that makes children ill (more of an urban myth but may have been real cases).

An elderly man near us gives out apples and the kids don't mind because he's very elderly and they only go to him because his adult grandchildren have let everyone know how happy it makes him to have the children coming round all dressed up, and to give them apples from his garden. Nobody would tell him they don't want apples. They might be a little less smiley about apples from someone their mum's age because they'd assume she was making a point :o I'm sure they would only say thank you though.

I agree with those suggesting offering them as a choice but also offering/ giving a few sweets.

AtHomeDadGlos · 21/10/2017 17:39

YABU. Fruit on Halloween? Hmm

ratspeaker · 21/10/2017 17:41

I offer apples and boxes of raisins along with sweets. They're often chosen.
I know a couple of neighbouring kids have allergies

Moanyoldcow · 21/10/2017 17:42

Surely parents who don't want their kids eating sweets won't take them trick or treating?

I'd not be impressed with fruit.

MollyHuaCha · 21/10/2017 17:44

I always offer fruit. They say ‘trick or treat’ and I say ‘chocolate or little orange?’

The satsumas are surprisingly popular!

nevereverever83 · 21/10/2017 17:45

neither flumps nor haribo are vegetarian or kosher or halal either (usually) why not do funsize chocolate bars, celebration type things, etc. that are more inclusive? Oreos and bourbons (usually check packet) are also vegan!

buzz17 · 21/10/2017 17:46

These are awesome!

I may go draw on the oranges in my fruit bowl - DD is the only one who eats them but would appreciate the pumpkin face!

I agree with having some in the bowl incase children want fruit instead! Mine love fruit but I think they’d go for sweets if given the choice!

Stopyourhavering · 21/10/2017 17:49

I used to do this along with the sugary crap/haribo that I love

honeyroar · 21/10/2017 17:50

I think those are really cute and it's good to offer something healthy in and amongst the crap. I also think there are some proper humbugs/divas on here scoffing at them and saying they'd bin them.

Olympiathequeen · 21/10/2017 17:50

Christmas, Easter and Halloween are the only times it’s reasnable to supply crap to children. So YABU

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/10/2017 17:52

No fruit here, bowl of mini Cadbury/ mini Mars type

Haribo (I think they were the Hallowe'en ones) little bags not popular.

I won't decorate fruit but I'm planning to put googly eyes on everything in the fridge Halloween Grin

fairyofallthings · 21/10/2017 17:54

I would do it as there is a minority who can't have sweets and so on. My two both had allergies but wanted to go T&T with their friends so I'd have some safe sweets/chocolate in my pocket for them. They loved being given something that they could eat even if it was fruit and preferred it to the stuff from my pocket.

kaytee87 · 21/10/2017 17:54

* I bin the fruit that's given to my kids.*

^ why??? Shock

They are cute, could you make up wee bags including them and some sweets?

A tangerine or banana is my toddlers idea of a treat but he’s too young to know about sweeties yet Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/10/2017 17:55

WRT binning fruit , my DS was given a bottle of Coke (it was open, flat and he said it tasted "Weird" )
My DS doesn't drink Coke so he had no idea what it tastes like , so flat Coke would taste weird to him but I had a nagging doubt that it was tampered or more likely leftover that someone fobbed off onto pesky ToT.

I decorate the house , we have a flurry early evening , then thankfully, it goes quiet .

Katedotness1963 · 21/10/2017 17:56

It's a cute idea! My kids loved to get that when they were little. Of course we all eat our body weight in satsumas at this time of year.

I will be handing out junk myself, treat bags made up of a bag of crisps and 3/4 Hallowe'en sweets.

idea888 · 21/10/2017 17:57

I think it would be fine - my kids usually come back with a big bowl of stuff, mostly sweets but there are always 2 or 3 houses giving out satsumas or pencils. I think it might work out a lot more expensive than sweets though? I've bought 120 lollies and mini chocolate bars for total cost around £10. How much would 120 satsumas cost? I reckon at least £25.

kaytee87 · 21/10/2017 17:58

Quite common in Scotland (at least when I was a child) to get tangerines and monkey nuts at Halloween

glasshalfsomething · 21/10/2017 18:00

Same as Fekko, we used to get apples, satsumas, monkey nuts and the occasional treat size chocolate bar - all in return for a song, dance or joke!

Love the little faces - go ahead and do it, and let us know how well they go down!

QuackDuckQuack · 21/10/2017 18:00

We make these for decoration, but haven’t ever handed them out. My mum used to give out apples and I found that embarrassing and was worried our house would get egged.

bimbobaggins · 21/10/2017 18:01

Last year I gave out the wee mini pizza box of sweets , I think it’s haribos. Kids loved them so I’ve got them again.
I’ve bought 20boxes at £1 each and that’s probably how my I’d spend buying all the stuff to make up bags so it saves me a job

Tinkhasflown · 21/10/2017 18:01

Ooh I'll be putting these on the table for our party. Will be handing out sweets and glowsticks as usual though Wink

KrytensNanobots · 21/10/2017 18:03

I bin the fruit that's given to my kids

Hmm
Pumperthepumper · 21/10/2017 18:04

When I was wee there was a couple near us who used to give out money. There was always a queue outside their door, must've cost them a fortune Halloween Smile

LilQueenie · 21/10/2017 18:05

I don't see fruit a a treat but I do like the idea of the little pumpkins.
