Does anyone else get ignored in shops?

This morning I took the dc for a fry up at a local cafe. Loads of people waiting to be served but just two young girls chatting behind the counter and ignoring everyone. This went on for a good 15 minutes, I was there before anyone else, then another woman came out and barked at me to join the queue. I said I’ve been here for 15 minutes and she just looked through me. I was so mad that I grabbed the dc and stormed out.
Next, the chemist. Three people working, no customers, stood there for a good 10 minutes before saying “excuse me” really loud. I was eventually served by a reluctant pharmacist.
Then, the bank. Same thing, being ignored. Two cashiers, no customers.
Is it just me? It seems to be in nearly every chemist I go in. They’re busy and customers get ignored for ages. I have a customer facing job and if I dated like this I’d be sacked 😡

My complaint was that she hadn't even acknowledged my presence. If she had said 'Hello, I'll be with you in a moment, I just need to do such and such chat with my colleague and I'll be with you in a minute' That would have been fine. She just acted as if I was invisible! I was very impressed with the customer service guy though.

I can't say I have ever experienced this and my local pharmacy is brilliant. I do find though in some places like sandwich shops the assistants are so slow. I get frustrated and feel like going behind the counter and making my own sandwich. How someone can take so long to butter a piece of bread I don't know.

Walking down the street though I appear to be completely invisible. People walk straight at me, bump into me. My local town centre is pedestrianised so a massively wide area to walk along. Still people bump into me. They walk towards me 6 abreast and appear not to see me.

The other day I was waiting for my DH and stood with my back touching a piece of wall between 2 shops. All the rest of the area free and yet still 2 people managed to bump me. You sit on a seat and you have to have your feet tucked under you because people will tread on them. So rude and unnecessary

I do feel like I don’t exist sometimes! Especially at make up counters in Boots. I just generally get what I need and go to the self service tills! I’m spending £50 on make up and get ignored. Even when I’m rummaging through the drawers to get what I want.

I have the opposite problem with some cosmetics counters, you walk anywhere near them and the staff practically jump on you.

I guess they can't win - if they don't talk to some people, they feel ignored, and in my case I just want to be left alone until I talk to them.

But if you are waiting in a queue, they should leave what they are doing and come and serve assuming there are enough tills etc. Another problem is the lack of proper shift planning to cover lunchtime. When's the busiest time? Lunchtime. So when are half our staff on lunch breaks? The very same. It can't be that difficult to plan shifts to cross lunch time.

I've never waited that long to find out! I have encountered some oblivious staff in my time though.

I have no guilt whatsoever about the free top I got from H&M because the dozy mare was talking to her mate whilst serving me without even looking at what she was doing. She scanned a much cheaper item twice, but folded the top straight up for the bag.

Some shop floor staff may be under 18 and so aren't allowed to use the tills - theoretically they can but in my company they'd need a supervisor to override and authorise any age restricted product which would defeat the point of having them there to help reduce the queues

Doesn't seem to stop my local Sainsburys (and indeed Waitrose) using all under 18 staff on a Saturday morning. And you can't use self-serve either, if you have age restricted items. If you go in at other times in the week you can usually find a more mature member of staff so you can make your purchases efficiently without having to wait for a supervisor to come around.
