How long is long enough to wait for a late friend

ginplease8383 · 20/10/2017 14:19

I've been waiting in a car park with my DD3 and DD1 for a friend who I forgot is always late. No word from her. She's 25 minutes late. When is reasonable to leave?

SloeSloeQuickQuickGin · 20/10/2017 14:19

About 15 minutes ago, but I have zero tolerance for poor time kepers.

Sirzy · 20/10/2017 14:20

How late is she normally?

As a reformed late arriver, ten minutes. Your friend needs to learn so you must be harsh and go!

Bitsandbobsalot · 20/10/2017 14:25

15 mins ago here too. It’s damn rude even if she has a good reason it take less than a minute to text someone. I hate late people and have little tolerance for them. To me ten minutes either side is fine, 15 mins is taking the piss, 20 mins your having a laugh, 25 mins and I’d be seething. Hence why I’d of left earlier. I couldn’t be friendly with someone who messed me around like this.

VeganIan · 20/10/2017 14:27

Have you heard from her at all?

MyBrilliantDisguise · 20/10/2017 14:29

Leave now. It's the only way she'll learn.

Jeezoh · 20/10/2017 14:30

I'd give her til 30 minutes late, send her a text to say you waited half an hour then leave. And hope she's suitably apologetic!

nameusername · 20/10/2017 14:31

The older I get the lesser my tolerance is. 5-10 minutes tops. Since said friend have no courtesy to inform you, I would have set off by now due to habitual lateness. Something urgent may have crop up but one can only go by past behaviours.

RoganJosh · 20/10/2017 14:31

Do you have to leave or could you start doing the thing you're meant to be doing with her?

Butterymuffin · 20/10/2017 14:33

Yes, are you having to wait for her to start the thing? If it's a restaurant or park or whatever I'd just go in. Actually, unless she's got the tickets, go in anyway. Or go somewhere else of your choice.

LiveLifeWithPassion · 20/10/2017 14:33

What were you meant to be doing? Carry on without her.

hellsbellsmelons · 20/10/2017 14:51

Has she turned up yet?

Detentioncontent · 20/10/2017 14:54

A friend once did this two me. I waited ages as I don't drive and had had to get the bus up there to meet her (we were going on to somewhere else later) THREE hours later she rang me to ask me why I wasn't there still.

Detentioncontent · 20/10/2017 14:55

*to not two

BeyondThePage · 20/10/2017 14:56

I wait ten minutes, then text to say I'm leaving in 5 minutes.

And then I do.

I have very few friends who arrive late twice.

NashvilleQueen · 20/10/2017 14:57

In the olden days it was harder as people couldn’t let you know if they were running late so you had to be a bit more tolerant. Assuming she has a phone it’s v bad form to just be late to meet at a specified location (different with a ‘I’ll drop round your house about lunchtime’ sort of arrangement).

TreeTopTen · 20/10/2017 14:57

15 mins tops, then leave. If she is always late I wouldn't text, let her sit there waiting.

afrikat · 20/10/2017 14:59

Could she be driving / stuck in traffic and unable to contact you? If so I'd probably wait 30 minutes. If not maybe 15.

ShutUpBaz · 20/10/2017 15:00

I'd have left fifteen minutes ago. Lateness is my biggest bugbear. Cannot stand people who think their time is more important than mine. Text her that you've gone but don't apologise for leaving.

BoobleMcB · 20/10/2017 15:04

I presume she's turned up?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 20/10/2017 15:06

10 minutes and then I leave if there’s been no word from them. Persistent lateness is so rude and disrespectful.

monkeywithacowface · 20/10/2017 15:10

15 minutes would acceptable and I'd probably phone them after 20 minutes to make sure they were ok but as you say it is someone who has a history of being late I'd probably leave after 15 minutes.

I hate lateness so rude

amusedbush · 20/10/2017 15:10

My friends is persistently late and it drives me bonkers. However I'm now too scared to ask why she was late after the time she turned up 45 minutes late and announced that she would have been on the earlier bus but realised as she was leaving that she needed a poo. Now I just smile and say nothing Grin
