Recently diagnosed with CFS/ME. Have informed work.

Today is one of those days i just cant keep my eyes open I'm so tired. My eyes actually hurt.

Would you ask if you can go home, or just ride it out?

I was going to say that too Lolaus. I eat fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, eggs and GF bread occasionally. I have a lot more energy on it. I have had CFS and now have Fibromyalgia. If you can eat unprocessed food for a bit it might help. I noticed a difference within three days of trying it. Eggs for breakfast, salad or soup for lunch, meat/fish vegetables for dinner, fruit in between and for desert. Weirdly low carbs gives me more energy.

Today, if it were me I'd try and wing it and last the day. But only you know if you really can't do that. If you really can't, tell them and go home.

Thanks all for your advice/I'm going to ride it out I think. Not much planned today so can try and slot jobs in easily and take my time

Dr Myhill has LOADS of information on her website about CFS/ME which may help you.

Not to belittle your diagnosis at all, but my doctors (about 6 different ones) wanted to diagnose me with CFS last year. I managed to see a doctor at my practice that specialises in CFS and we discovered that I actually have very low stomach acid, so I wasn’t getting any nutrition out of the foods I was eating. As soon as I started to treat that, my symptoms were gone within a couple of months. If a change of diet helps, it may be worth investigating to see whether there is more going on with your digestive system? Many doctors only look at the symptoms in my experience, rather than the underlying reason (I know they are very short on time and do the best they can).

Hope you feel better soon Smile

Its not about "believing" it. I assume you have something in writing from your gp about your condition.

cjt110 · 19/10/2017 12:45

Areyoulocal Thank you, I'll give those a look up.

Davinaaddict MY diagnosis is aftre 2 years of ongoing tests and referral to a specialist CFS clinic near me. Interesting about the correlation between stomach acid and CFS. I do suffer from GERD and also have an underactive thyroid I'm 30 and a walking mess

Awwlookatmybabyspider Not as of yet - The report writer hasn't completed it yet.

We have a colleague in our team who has issues like this (not sure what his diagnosis is exactly), but he has had two instances of sickness in the last 3 years where he was off for around 6 months as he basically slept for months/been banned from driving for medical reasons. He also has had other shorter absences or periods where he has worked from home a couple of days a week. He has told us he is officially registered as disabled and has that protection, the reasonable adjustments that the company have put in place are to ensure his workload is manageable, ensure he doesn't suffer ANY stress at all and to allow flexible working if he is struggling.

It can be difficult when the other team member and myself are stressed out with workload and he is happily pottering away in the background, but I give my head a wobble and say I wouldn't rather be in his position!

I don't know anything about CFS, but being recognised as disabled and looking for adjustments officially through HR so you get the protection sounds safer to me than risking not getting them involved until you have issues with attendance/performance.

Awwlook if cjt's boss doesn't believe it exists, they're unlikely to let her go home. You'd be surprised how many people don't.

EvilDoctorBallerinaVampireDuck · 19/10/2017 14:26

You might think this is woo bollocks but my friend is a Reiki practitioner and she says it really helps with CFS/ME.

cjt110 · 19/10/2017 14:27

EvilDoctorBallerinaVampireDuck I'll try anything that helps!

....Actually sat falling asleep at my desk now.

Boss has gone home. I could email him and ask if I could head home?

cjt110 · 19/10/2017 15:06

I've emailed just saying I fee; whacked and am in pain, could I head home early. I can pick emails up from home later on and come in a bit earlier tomorrow. Sent it 20 mins ago and no reply...

Hi OP, sorry to hear you are struggling, and that your boss is an arse. Unfortunately, there are still quite a few people around who think ME is either psychosomatic or, even worse, lazyitis.

I have had it for 9 years, but am now almost totally recovered. It took a long while to hit on the right combo of nutrition and therapies, but recovery was fairly quick once I did so. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat or get any info on what helped me. For the immediate term, my top tip would be to pace yourself and not overdo it today, to avoid payback (post exertional malaise) for the next few days, or longer. Flowers
