To not understand why Jason Manford is still popular?

There are multiple stories of him cheating, sexting when in a relationship with pregnant people, and just generally treating women like shit.

He is on Loose Women, showcasing his new singing career, milking his 'cheeky chappy' persona, talking about his Nana and his kids, and is being fawned over by all the presenters.

He is obviously a huge bellend (he probably claims he is a 'sexual addict's or something) and i just don't get why people still seem to love him?

Sadly, being a sexist bellend, or worse, rarely harms a man's career in our society.

RhinosDontEatOatcakes · 18/10/2017 14:21

I agree with many of these posts. I used to find him very funny and likeable (and relatable) but now I just think about what a disgraceful husband he was and all his grim sexting. It puts me right off him.

Patriarchy though. Nobody truly cares when men misbehave - look at David Beckham (philanderer), Jimmy Carr (tax dodger) and so many others.

He's very mediocre, but you have to remember that we live in a country where people not only think that Michael McIntyre, Sarah Millican and endless 'observational comedy' panel show tw@ts are hilarious, but go to see them in arenas at vast expense.

I don't get that, and nor could I ever understand why people would buy DVDs of their shows, but I am clearly in a minority. So maybe the DVD buyers will be queuing up for Jason Manford Sings the Blues, or whatever his record is called.

RhinosDontEatOatcakes · 18/10/2017 14:29

Oh yes, I do agree about the professional northerner thing. It's a working class northern humour though and people like it because it makes sense, you know, northerners are allowed to be successful and famous so long as they don't try to be anything they're not ie. you can tell jokes about your whippet and your outdoor loo, leave the clever jokes to the nice public school boys please Wink

KrytensNanobots · 18/10/2017 14:29

Yep all the "look at me taking kids on holiday without a woman, aren't I cool / clever / liberated" shit. Does my noodle in

Where does he say that?! Since when is a Dad taking his kids out "look, at me, I'm so clever and cool without a woman"?
Bloody hell, they can't win they can they. If he never bothered with them or had days out he'd get accused of not giving a shit! Dads can post days out on Facebook just like Mums can.

youlooklikeaclown · 18/10/2017 14:31

Soon to release "hilarious" DVD in time for Christmas......

Nettletheelf · 18/10/2017 14:36

Agree re the 'professional northerner' thing. It's so bloody lazy. I think that Manford and Kay have both occupied the sweet spot of 'comedians you can go to see with the kids and the old people for cheap laughs about working class stuff'.

Kay is good in Phoenix Nights, Car Share, etc., but as a stand up he's bloody awful. Perhaps that's what some people like: grandad isn't going to be confused or offended by jokes about garlic bread, is he? Not like going to see Stewart Lee, where you might have to use your brain.

noseyjosey · 18/10/2017 14:44

I personally like him. I find him funny. That’s the thing with comedy it’s a very personal thing so each to their own. I’m the only person in the country who can’t stand Mrs brown apparently. I’m in hiding so I don’t get deported over it.

I agree 5 kids to 3 women would be an issue if it was a woman with 5 kids to 3 men. Society’s problem though not Jason’s. I cannot condone the cheating, but it’s not like it’s my business or anyone’s, however a public job does invite interest. I applaud his input with his kids though, and I think dad’s can get a bad press, especially once a marriage ends. He’s by no means the only dad putting this effort in, but it’s good to be reminded.

Im dying to jump on that ‘pregnant people’ ‘pregnant women’ conversation shame I’m not a troll with a huge spoon to stir.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/10/2017 14:46

Kryten he posts about how he’s doing it all by himself on fb all the time.** ^
^
Here I am early on Saturday morning to wuth the kids on my own.* Here I am at the airport with the kids on my own. A woman just asked me where my wife is. I told her on my own.*

Ok, we get it.* You’re parenting on your own.* Do you want a medal?

BitOutOfPractice · 18/10/2017 14:49

I apologise for the random bold etc. Phone playing up

AlecTrevelyan006 · 18/10/2017 14:56

He has four kids with his first wife - he has joint custody.

One kid with his second wife.

Some people find him funny.

Some people don’t.

tehmina23 · 18/10/2017 15:07

Who is he? I will google.

Pinkvoid · 18/10/2017 15:29

Some friends on Facebook like him so occasionally his posts about his kids pop up and they’re incredibly self important. I remember one bragging about the fact he made them homemade organic chicken nuggets and slated anyone who takes their children to McDonald’s when it’s so easy to make your own Hmm. Hardly championing the working class...

He’s not even funny.

Standingcat · 18/10/2017 16:35

I think that he broke up with his ex over sexting? Now he is with a new partner and has a child with new partner isn’t he?

Anyhow, people probably like his humour ?

NumberEightyOne · 18/10/2017 16:40

I love observational comedy. Jason Manford is really good at it.

Telstar99 · 18/10/2017 16:42

I think he is funny and talented. Didn't know anything about the rest of the (dodgy) stuff.

I think someone saying they are a sex addict is full of shit though. I don't believe there is such a thing.

guiltynetter · 18/10/2017 18:33

pinkvoid i don't remember that post about the chicken nuggets but SURELY he was joking and you didn't get it ?! he usually comes across quite down to earth...

guiltynetter · 18/10/2017 18:35

pink void i don't think that's quite what he said ;)

KrytensNanobots · 18/10/2017 18:41

Ha, I remember the chicken nugget post. Yep, totally not what pink void said at all.

ForalltheSaints · 18/10/2017 18:44

Probably just the same as those who like Russell Brand or find the bad 70s sitcom Mrs Browns Boys funny. Some people have different tastes and some will excuse unacceptable behaviour when they should not in my opinion.

Brittbugs80 · 18/10/2017 23:07

I think he's funny. Seen him love a few times and seeing him next year too. Met him a couple of times and he's always been friendly and polite and made time to chat.

Michael Mackintyre however can fuck right off!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/10/2017 23:32

Peter Kaye is great live. I have actually cried with laughter watching him. Maybe his stand up is not intellectual but it's very warm and endearing. Car share was very subtle though.

OliviaBonas · 18/10/2017 23:36

I think he's funny and I'm going to see him live next year. I also think he's hot. Blush

BriechonCheese · 18/10/2017 23:38

He's about as funny as anal fissure.
