... to be miffed that dh used the sink to vomit in rather than the toilet

Dh was taken ill in the night - possibly food poisoning, needed to vomit twice.

Don't get me wrong I was sympathetic at the time and this morning told him not to worry I'd bleach the loo, give the toilet a wipe down with antiseptic etc ..... but then he tells me the sink might need the same treatment because the first time he was sick he used the sink.

Why would you do that? When there is a perfectly good toilet? Stupid - right?

i've thrown up in the sink. i like to sit on the bath next to the sink and hang head while waiting for it to come up. i prefer that to the loo. it really depends if it's coming up fast or if i'm having to wait. either way i just bleach and clean the area when i'm able to.

StaySexyDontGetMurdered · 18/10/2017 12:43

Yanbu.
I've had surprise vomit loads of times and never aimed for the sink. It's common sense

Bluntness100 · 18/10/2017 12:43

I use thr loo, but the sheer act of putting my head towards it makes me nauseous in itself. I have vomited in the sink in a hotel bathroom but that’s because it was coming out of both ends and the loo was already in use,,,,

I would say the sink is more pleasant to puke into. If pleasant is the right word.

One of my daughters friends was sick here once and she was puking into the sink. It honestly hasn’t even crossed my mind till now that she should have used thr loo.

It strikes me on reflection, less splashes in the sink, so I wouldn’t say he was wrong exactly.

Ceto · 18/10/2017 12:45

YANBU. Unless this wasn't a sink in the bathroom, it's very difficult to understand how someone wouldn't have time to get to the loo but would have time to get to the sink. And sinks and sink drains just aren't designed for dealing with vomit.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/10/2017 12:45

I think your DH is a bit irresponsible going to work. And if he's feeling that much better he should be cleaning up after himself.

And to those with bowls in the toilet to catch both ends, really? Once in my 52 years I have been so ill to be in that situation. I can't imagine it happening regularly enough to need a receptacle in the bathroom.

darkfruits · 18/10/2017 12:47

YABU, Perhaps the sink was closer at the time? if he vomited in the sink AND the toilet then it is more than likely that it was just closest and he knows he shouldn’t throw up in the sink, hence him vomiting in the toilet as well... Hmm

londonrach · 18/10/2017 12:51

Yabu. Its easier to clean than the bed. With sickness getting getting there is good enough. Dh last time used sink but two seconds later needed the toilet as well. Not pleasant. Poor guy. (He got it from me and was so kind when i was ill). Flat cola and hope he feels better.

evilharpy · 18/10/2017 12:53

I don't understand the wanting to puke in the sink thing. It's less deep so would there not be more danger of splashes coming back out and hitting you in the face? Also far more cleanup (just flush the loo and it's gone) and risk of chunks blocking the sink and having to unblock it. Not nice.

I would be very pissed off with your husband if I was one of his work colleagues and he brought whatever made him throw up into work to infect me.

lalalalyra · 18/10/2017 12:54

Last time I was sick I had to use the sink as I had to sit on the toilet. Couldn't hold myself up high enough to reach the toilet from the floor whereas on the loo I could hang over the sink easily. It's not always a choice thing.

Blackcatonthesofa · 18/10/2017 12:55

From the moment I realise that I have to vomit till the actual vomiting is just a few seconds for me. I sprint to the nearest whatever, toilet, sink or bucket and hold on to it till I'm done. I didn't realise that so many people had enough time to consider options when getting sick. I do have to add that I have vomited a lot in the past so it does come easily. That might be factor in speed, I don't know.

tinypop4 · 18/10/2017 12:56

I think you're being a bit harsh. When you're about to vomit you just look for anything that isn't the carpet and don't get much warning.
A sink is totally washable/bleachable, which I'm sure he wouldn't mind doing himself when the worst of the bug has passed.

Oblomov17 · 18/10/2017 12:58

Food poisoning is serious. Dh has had it twice. If you'd have it, you'd understand. You vomit in the nearest pace, you can get to. Sink or toilet, wouldn't bother me.

Willswife · 18/10/2017 12:59

I'm more shocked by the fact that he went to work and has risked making his colleagues ill than him using the sink!

FairyDogMother11 · 18/10/2017 13:00

I got annoyed when my DP did this when he was drunk, but if he'd been ill I'd have let him off.

BlueSapp · 18/10/2017 13:01

Tell him to clean it up, we always clean and bleach after each time we are sick ourselves, immediatly, and wash hands and face, and use antibac hand gel, you can't be too carefull when there are other people sharing the facilities.

I can see if he was caught out, ie sitting on the toilet why hed've done that otherwise no. Mind you if im sick while sittingion the toilet i reach for the bin and then tripple bag the rubbish.

peterpan742 · 18/10/2017 13:02

I'm a dreadful vomiter. Honestly, I get no warning until it's too late - I've reached the loo maybe one or two times in my life (in my 20's now) and one of those was when I was stood in the bathroom with the loo beneath me (my shelves are above my loo). Apart from that, it's in a bucket that is placed right up against my bed or all over myself/my bed/wherever I am.

If I say I feel ill, my family literally chuck the bucket at me. I've also been known to miss the bucket as there is literally no warning at all. It just happens. I am terrified of myself/anyone vomiting though.

Viserion · 18/10/2017 13:06

No moving. When someone is ill, they are not likely to be as thorough as when they are well. He would be trying to get it done, but not necessarily notice how far it has splashed.

This is a man who moves furniture to hoover (I don't), who dusts and polishes weekly (I don't), cleans his shoes weekly, does the ironing daily etc. I am not going to begrudge him being less careful when he is holding down his own vomit.Hmm

user1495451339 · 18/10/2017 13:07

Didn't have enough time to put toilet lid and seat up maybe?

Myheartbelongsto · 18/10/2017 13:08

You sound heartless.

bumpertobumper · 18/10/2017 13:10

Yanbu, and all of you sink pukers ABVU. Vomit is as dirty germ wise as poo, so should be in the loo whenever possible.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 18/10/2017 13:10

I was copiously sick into the bathroom sink when I was a child. My Dad held me over it, because the loo was in a different room and several more steps away and I wasn't going to get there.
It took a while to clear it away - I've never been sick in the sink again since then.
Bucket, if not toilet!

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 18/10/2017 13:13

bumpertobumper Maybe you should clean your sink?

hmcAsWas · 18/10/2017 13:13

I didn't realise that some people's urge to vomit is just moments away from the inevitable. I generally wake and have a minute or two's notice so can choose my vomit receptacle! In fact, when I have a vomiting bug I often really want to vomit (because of the immediate relief it gives you) but can't

hmmmmmmmmmm

sink is bad as chunks dont go down holes

toilet is bad as may get splash back, and when i was preg and had hg and threw up many times every day, often toilet rims in public loos/restaurants had poo/wee stains on them

i found cop bags fab for being sick in, no holes, no splashback and no poo

tho obv this doesnt help op

toilet i guess is better if at home as hopefully no poo stains

now what shall i have for lunch Grin

wornoutboots · 18/10/2017 13:23

we used the kids plastic halloween buckets earlier this year (all of us were ill at once, it wasn't pretty!)

better replace those this year, then!
