Simply that really.

Would you say it's somewhere to ask questions, socialize, share news, voice concerns, or something else?

to keep you sane?

Ecureuil · 17/10/2017 11:38

Whatever you want it to be for. Some people use it as support, some as entertainment, some to while away the time, some to be controversial... it doesn’t have a single function.

wobblywonderwoman · 17/10/2017 11:39

Company. Advice.

ThePeanutGallery · 17/10/2017 11:39

Pass the time at work?

NameChanger22 · 17/10/2017 11:41

Advice, news, company, ideas, support, humour, politics.

KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 17/10/2017 11:42

The joy with Mumsnet it's for anyone and everyone. You can use this site for how ylu see fit. It's not a one trick pony. You can get guidance and advice for something serious. You can share your adventures for the day. Retell funny and heart warming, and it's all anon.

I found it really helpful and a place to confide in without much judgement. I think being anonymous helps massively with that.

Without much judgement.. ..

You mean THIS mumsnet????

ethelfleda · 17/10/2017 11:46

Entertainment and discussion for me. I came off social media a while back because most people on there were painfully stupid and reading people's debates was like sticking pins in my eyes. Here, there are a huge variety of opinions and most are articulated really well. Have learned a lot from this board and it has sparked some interesting discussion at home too.
Also - the pregnancy board is great for me too at the moment!

GrandmaSuckingEggs · 17/10/2017 11:46

It's for something to do when I'm taking little breaks from work.

I've also learned shit loads about feminism from here.

OnNaturesCourse · 17/10/2017 11:47

Lol @ Peanut.

Thanks all. Was a little pissed off when I posted after being told that I post "a lot" - I have had a few questions to ask recently as I head towards the end of my first pregnancy and unfortunately don't have anyone at home much that I can bounce them off. So I've been using Mumsnet.

Kinda feel like I've had my fingers burned by what could have been a innocent passing comment. Silly hormones.

Definitely that! Grin

It used to be for entertainment and educational purposes for me. Now I seem to be spending my time shouting at the the threads and thinking 'what a load of bollocks' to every OP and every response. So now I'm not really sure of it's purpose in my life. Ten years it's been, so maybe now it is just a habit.

OnNaturesCourse · 17/10/2017 11:58

Haha, I'm not at work now so maybe that's why I'm on here so much lol

People have said I post a lot which is true there is reasons I am never off here some days it passes the time while im on the sofa in pain anyway people use mumsnet for many different things don't be put off if you get a few sarky comments.

coddiwomple · 17/10/2017 12:02

Pass the time at work? and in the train

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 17/10/2017 12:05

I use it as a source of information, for the occasional laugh, to indulge my passion for "helping" people with advice, to connect with people, to share knowledge, and it's given me new friends.

I've been here for 9 years now, and despite the subtle changes in demographic - yes, I do feel that there are more "in your face" posters now than there used to be - I still stay because mostly I enjoy it.

I wouldn't necessarily post on my most sensitive issues though - the risk of being torn to shreds is too high. :(

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 17/10/2017 12:05
  1. It’s my preferred alternative to housework.
  2. As habits go, it’s marginally less damaging than drugs or alcohol.
ThePeanutGallery · 17/10/2017 12:06

and in the train

And when you've had a couple of glasses of wine and TV is boring.

OnNaturesCourse · 17/10/2017 12:07

Thank you Jay.

I'm not sure if the comment was snarky but it certainly hit home with me that way, but I left it as I know I'm a little hormonal and sensitive at the moment. Plus I didn't want a Mumsnet war on my hands... I've seen how things can get nasty on here.

I'm on here a lot but like you say it passes time and, most of the time, eases my worries and answers my questions.

ppeatfruit · 17/10/2017 12:09

I like it because there are sites that suit everyone. I'm an MOR type culturally and there's room for me and my ,almost, mainstream tastes on telly, etc. Nice to go on line to share with others who like The Archers, Strictly, GBBO etc.

IHopeYourCakeIsShit · 17/10/2017 12:11

It's all the above really I think.
It can be a bit hit and miss with advice though. I sometimes think if your thread titles are a bit boring they can be overlooked and it could be when you could really do with some help.
I often wonder if you are better off with a header of 'My tits fell off and killed next door's cat' rather than being truthful in the title?

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 17/10/2017 12:14

Pass the time at work? and in the train
While watching sport, or in the rain.

Or with a twat, or on the mat.
Or eating cheese, or throwing peas.

Or in the car, or at a bar,
Down the gym, or wearing bras....

You can MN ANYWHERE!

(with huge, huge apologies to Dr. Seuss!) Grin
