To Ask Which Supermarket Has The Best Staff?

For me I find Sainsbury's to be around the best, quite a young crowd but don't think I've had an issue.

I dislike the staff at our ASDA Superstore, always standing around in groups and gossiping about something or other, it's really strange and shows how poor the management is.

The Staff at Aldi and Lidl just seem to be super busy all the time.

Telstar99 I wouldn't of minded, the odd occasional comment, but it was happening on a regular basis, it made me quite self conscious about going in, especially when undergoing regular intensive treatment at hospital & had enough on my plate at the time.

Sainsbury’s. Their delivery drivers are great too. Always so friendly and unpack all the shopping for you from the crates, ask where you want it etc.

avamiah · 18/10/2017 01:01

Waitrose and M&S at Canary Wharf London .

silentpool · 18/10/2017 06:36

Waitrose, hands down. I've noticed that they are also very good with older customers/people with kids etc.

insancerre · 18/10/2017 06:38

Booths
Very friendly and super helpful

jeaux90 · 18/10/2017 06:38

Waitrose definitely but then there is a co-OP and Sainsbury's in my area too and the staff are very nice in those too. Waitrose just seems to have more staff available to help.

Earthmoon · 18/10/2017 07:05

Iceland got the best staff here

Undercoverbanana · 18/10/2017 07:10

Aldi - fast and efficient whilst being friendly and smiling. Always helpful when you need it, too.

OriginalRhubarbGin · 18/10/2017 07:11

Round here it's Waitrose by a country mile. Nice solid middle class company and ethos in a nice solid middle class area with nice solid middle class customers whose nice solid middle class teens tend to get their first jobs there as well. A little staid perhaps but a wonderfully pleasant shopping experience. The customer is always right and always to be made happy. It's in the whole attitude that comes from the top down. They only employ people who will deliver it. And it's worth the extra cost of goods for me. And even the Essentials range is streets ahead of other own brand sections on quality.

Runners up would be our local M&S food and the big Sainsburys. The M&S staff here are generally just a little bit less friendly and a bit more stand offish than Waitrose. And while the Sainsburys staff are just as friendly they're usually a bit less well informed and just don't go the extra mile, its just a bit "computer says no" with no initiative or willingness to try.

'Best' in what way? for me, the ideal staff are those who've made sure stuff is on the shelves, in the correct place and there are enough of them on the checkouts when it's time to pay.
For other customers, 'best' will mean enough staff to help with their shop, pack their bags and help them to the car, however if there was a lot of this going on my trip round the store could be hindered and as I like to get in and out as quick as possible they wouldn't be 'best' for me.

QueenofLouisiana · 18/10/2017 07:18

Depends really. Usually Waitrose. But when you are in the baskets only queue with 1 item, there is 1 member of staff working and they still chat away between bagging every single item and pause to discuss which free coffee is wanted... At that point I’d rather be in Tescos! I know the person service is all lovely, the chat is great for isolated customers, but my need to be in and out isn’t catered for in our store.

I like the straight forward approach in Aldi and Farm Foods.

PollyPelargonium52 · 18/10/2017 07:25

I pop to Asda every week to top up onmy Tescos delivery the staff always chat away to staff and customers and hold me up. It happens every week. It is fine to chat but not to keep people waiting.

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2017 07:26

I don't think you can generalise. Too many variables.

I use self scan for a big shop or the serve yourself tills for a few items so don't really have any need to get involved with the staff.

brasty · 18/10/2017 07:32

The slowness of staff in M&S really irritates me.

Katinkka · 18/10/2017 07:36

Waitrose and m&s

MamaOfTwos · 18/10/2017 07:57

The staff in all supermarkets here are generally lovely but there's always one or two who grunt, tut and make out you're doing them a favour if you ask where something is.

tehmina23 · 18/10/2017 08:01

Morrisons!! (I'm biased as 3 of my friends & my cousin work there).

Also our local Sainsbury's staff are good.

I shop a lot in Tesco but I don't think the staff are well trained or managed there & there are never enough tills open.

PickleFish · 18/10/2017 08:58

round here the Waitrose staff are best.

The Sainbury's and Tesco mini supermarkets - of which there are a lot - are the worst. The staff don't care at all, just sit there chatting, reek of smoke, never around to help at self service tills, , just give this attitude of can't-be-botheredness. Especially the Sainsbury's ones.

The bigger supermarkets are better in that respe

JaneEyre70 · 18/10/2017 08:59

Waitrose. Staff are always warm, smiling and look relaxed in their jobs. Must be a good company to work for.

tinypop4 · 18/10/2017 09:00

in my area the staff are super helpful at Sainsburys. Asda also fine although they are less inclined to go out of their way if they are int he middle of something else.
I don't shop at the tesco so don't know with them.

whifflesqueak · 18/10/2017 09:02

Waitrose.

They have a vested interest in the company and at our local there is a noticeably greater staff to customer ratio.

EssentialHummus · 18/10/2017 09:03

Waitrose in general. But my neighbour works at Sainsbury’s and will bring me home stuff if I text her, can’t beat that for customer service Wink.

ferrier · 18/10/2017 09:07

Waitrose here too.
Is this a stealth thread by Waitrose perhaps?

formerbabe · 18/10/2017 09:18

The staff in my local Sainsbury's are always very friendly.

quercuscircus · 18/10/2017 09:24

Overall I would say Sainsburys by a long way. I've moved around enough to have tried all sorts of supermarkets, all over the place!

Waitrose can be good or great, but I find Sainsburys staff to be more genuinely interested and engaged with their job and seem to feel more part of a team.

Our local Waitrose is really quite bad for service so this really annoys me.
