well obviously she did because she wouldn't have prounounced it like that unless she'd heard it would she
Again, I'm sorry, but I must disagree: she pronounced it as that because she assumed it to be the "proper" English way, and contextual to the actress's age. She sees herself as very literate and cultured.
Another example that has come to mind is my reference to Justin Theroux, the American actor and nephew of writer Paul Theroux. Justin Theroux pronounces his name as Ther-oh, but after I mentioned him, she immediately said his surname using the pronunciation used by Paul & Louis Theroux, which is quite different.
Definitely oneupmanship, which could be defined as the technique or practice of gaining an advantage or feeling of superiority over another person. Since the Irene Handl incident, which actually made me look at her anew, she had related many incidents when she has manipulated people to give her a feeling of superiority - unwittingly passed along, of course. However, other than that, she is a very nice person so I just generally ignore it as a personal quirk, or if I'm in a mood to do so, respond in kind. However, tit for tat gets tedious very very quickly, and is emotionally destructive.
