saw an old man today happily trundling down the dual carriage way in his mobility scooter with a tartan blanket over his knee, happily waving the cars past.it wasnt just that he was in mortal danger but it was 3 miles to the next slip road and i was worried his battery would run out before he reached it

Do you live near me?

The old guy round the road regularily goes 3 miles to the shops in his to do his shopping.. despite our offers of help!!

We lives on a busy road, just off a dual carriageway!

fannyannie · 10/04/2007 20:36

I could say that well actually bikes shouldn't be on the pavement.......but then I'd be accused of being controversial

OrvilleRedenbacher · 10/04/2007 20:36

lol

3andnomore · 10/04/2007 20:41

OMG...I thought there was a minimum speed limit for Dual carraigeways...am sure dh told me that, and that that is the reason why mopeds can't go on them and scooters, I think, can, as they just reach that limit....however mihgt be wrong!
But, what a stupid thing to do...surely it's dangerous!
And littlelapin, that is awful behaviour, too...just because you are on a scooter does not excuse common courtesy and common sense!

penmack · 10/04/2007 20:50

little lapin a similar thing happened to me in a shopping centre. an old lady going incredibily fast on one of those scooters almost ran down my small son. i had to push him out of the way an onto the floor. when i asked the old dear what she was doing (but not in such polite terms!) she just shrugged and scootered off!it was a clear case of oap scooter rage if ever i saw one

3andnomore, I know that rule applies to Motorways, but am not sure about dual carriageways.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 10/04/2007 21:08

I can beat that - I saw on on the A34 - a major dual carriageway round Oxford, on one, dragging a fecking sheepdog.

EllieKthePA · 10/04/2007 21:10

i think the rules say that only children under 9 are allowed to cycle on pavements so a small child would have been ok

EllieKthePA · 10/04/2007 21:11

my nan and her best mate both have scooters, my nan has just upgraded hers because it didn't go as fast as her friends one

penmack · 10/04/2007 21:12

oh that surely must have been a sight to see. i wonder how you get to a place where taking your dog for a quick drag round the a43 on your mobility scooter seems like a good idea. i bet the dog was none too pleased either

tinkerbellhadpiles · 10/04/2007 21:14

The dog looked like he would die sooner than the chap on the scooter!!!!

penmack · 10/04/2007 21:16

that will teach his dog to beg for scraps

OP posts:
tinkerbellhadpiles · 10/04/2007 21:21

Yeah if I see him again, I'm going to toss the dog some roller skates - give him a fighting chance

penmack · 10/04/2007 21:22

oh what a fantastic imagine, just like the kids from fame

OP posts:
tinkerbellhadpiles · 10/04/2007 21:23

You'd think he'd get a buggy board!

tinkerbellhadpiles · 10/04/2007 21:25

EllieKthePA - ah yes scooter envy. I remember going round the shopping centre while pregnant and unable to walk through SPD looking at the old biddies mowing down small children with their electric wheelies and feeling very

Do old people put go faster stripes on them?

penmack · 10/04/2007 21:25

one of those nice ones with a little seat that the dog could sit on when he was tired of standing and looking at the view. whats wrong with a wicker basket on the front of the scooter at least youd notice if the dog wasnt there anymore

OP posts:
tinkerbellhadpiles · 10/04/2007 21:33

I'd like to see a wicker basket with a sheepdog in it. Did I mention it was an old english sheepdog - of the very hairy and large type?

tinkerbellhadpiles · 10/04/2007 21:34

What worries me though - were there sheep in the convoy when they joined the A34?

penmack · 10/04/2007 21:36

tinkerbell well someone was having lamb for dinner that night. now if they had all been in that baskethe wouldnt of had that problem

3andnomore · 10/04/2007 22:54

lol...I know I am a complete nutter to looking this up...lol...but this is what I came across
looks like Iit may depend on the mobility scooter, if they are allowed or not....

powder28 · 10/04/2007 22:56

I have seen an old man going the wrong way round the roundabout on one of those scooters!
He managed to stop all the traffic
