Tonight i went downstairs and as day there is SOMeTHInG crashing about - i can't see it but it sounds like it wants to get out. Could be a squirrel, neighbour had one trapped in her loft and apparently the noise was unbelievable coming from just one little squirrel.
Rats do seem most likely though, given the neighbour has them.

Hope the pest control guy arrives soon OP!

We had rats once and they were very noisy. We used cage traps and then MrZ killed them (not sure how, probably an air rifle). We'd had some plumbing work done and there was a really small hole which had allowed them to get through. There was no hole very shortly after we found it though and we haven't had any trouble since.

Cat's area wonderful but not always great pest control, my cat brings in mice that had no intention of coming near the house, doesn't kill the just play's then looses interest so I'm left to find & remove the poor things

@Bluerosethorns that's awful that your neighbour doesn't seem bothered by the fact she'd had rats! Having said that our neighbours with the chickens were horrified by us getting pest control in.

If it makes you feel any better we never had evidence of the rats getting into our living areas just our loft, which we luckily didn't use for storage and the ceilings. Hope pest control sort it soon for you Smile

This has happened to me twice, (we are rural) the first time something pushed the outside vent open on the extractor to the cooker hood and was running down the pipes Shock The second time was worse...a mouse had got it's leg caught in a trap behind the kitchen kick boards. It was very much still alive and dragging the trap in panic. Poor thing, I rescued it and let it go outside. Both times were so loud I could have sworn we had burglars! Hope you get sorted soon.
