Supermarket conveyer belts.....

So this really gets my back up but have never voiced it before. So there you are at the checkout putting your stuff from your large trolley load of stuff onto the belt and someone comes up from behind and starts putting things on the belt from their basket/trolley. You haven't finished putting your stuff on and before you know where you are their stuff starts moving along the belt. So AIBU and what pleasant comment can I utter when this happens to me again?

Lighthearted, I know there are worse problems but it just gets up my nose.

@Blahblahblahhhhhhh LOL Grin

abigailgabble · 10/10/2017 20:19

i’ve never been to an Aldi but MN has made me so scared of the chaos!

Hoppinggreen · 10/10/2017 20:21

It's happened to me and I just politely but firmly asked the lady to remove her stuff and not put it on until I put the divider on.
She huffed off to another checkout, I wasn't bothered

ArbitraryName · 10/10/2017 20:22

In the supermarket this week I was loading my trolley load of shopping on to the belt. A cheeky fucker with a basket decided to walk around me and put his stuff at the front of the belt so he could go first. If he’d asked, I’d have said he should go first. But he didn’t.

I was pretty pissed off that the checkout operator who watched it happen just served him as if he wasn’t a cheeky arsehole.

Yogagirl123 · 10/10/2017 20:24

Happened to me on a number of occasions, I take it in my stride, by DH gets very grumpy if it happens to him. I agree it is very rude.

Mrsbird311 · 10/10/2017 20:27

This happened to me last week, so bloody rude, I went soooooo slowly, chatting away to the cashier about how nice it was not shopping with the kids and being able to take my time!!!
Ha the guy was hopping mad
Serves him right bloody awful person, he’s lucky I didn’t stab him in the face with my mini cucumber!!!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/10/2017 20:28

I was waiting my turn in a busy Waitrose when the chap opened the checkout next to me and said, looking straight at ME, ‘would you like to come over madam?’ The woman behind him, so in the next pair of checkouts, had whizzed her trolley round before I’d managed to haul mine across and started unpacking. I said ‘um, excuse me, he did actually mean me.’ She completely and utterly ignored me. I looked at the checkout man, he looked at me, we both stared at her and she blithely carried on unpacking. There’s no way she could have thought he was speaking directly to her, she was behind him and he was looking at me.

The nice lady behind me said in a really loud posh voice ‘some people have no manners!’ She was lovely, she said her children would have got a right bollocking if they’d pushed in front of someone, even they knew it was rude. The push-in lady was a cheeky mare.

Migraleve · 10/10/2017 20:33

This is why I use scan as you shop at Tesco

ForalltheSaints · 10/10/2017 20:33

Doesn't happen in our local Waitrose as the wrath of the cat who waits outside would descend upon anyone who did this!

Scrowy · 10/10/2017 20:33

Do you remember when mumsnetters went through a phase of putting their conveyer belt dividers the wrong way round (lengthways up the conveyer rather than widthways across)

Bet that would slow down the premature belt stackers for a few seconds Grin

reallybadidea · 10/10/2017 20:37

I tried the trolley-behind-me thing but not only did the rude fuckers behind me put a divider down and start emptying their basket, they started gradually pushing my trolley towards me so that I had less and less room to move and put my shopping on the belt. My shopping ended up piled high precariously, and funnily enough, it actually slowed things down. Fuckwits. I didn't say anything, mainly because I was so incensed that I knew I'd have gone too far if I got started Grin

Roundandroundtheapartment · 10/10/2017 20:42

What also annoys me (when at Lidl) is people who have 2 items and look at you with puppy dog eyes while you load your trolley full on to the belt, waiting for you to offer them to go first, in Aldi I usually do offer but in our Lidl they have 8 self service tills!!

Scrowy · 10/10/2017 20:44

Found it! The divider game thread

happy321123 · 10/10/2017 20:45

I’ve never had this happen, but I think that may be because my toddler insists on closing the till behind me with the tape. No one gets close 😂😂

My bugbear is when you can’t reach the divider yet, but no rush eh? And the person behind you almost breaks their neck climbing over you to put a divider between their shopping and yours. I tend to reassure them I won’t be paying for theirs as well, so they can chill for 30 seconds until the queue moves down.

There is literally nothing pleasant about the supermarket till

Alloftheboys · 10/10/2017 21:01

Also the person in front should put the divider down when they have finished putting their shopping on the belt. If the person in front hasn't done it by the time it comes to put my stuff down I put my stuff right next to theirs to see if they want to pay for any of my shopping!

Littledrummergirl · 10/10/2017 21:01

Screwy, I still do that. Blush It does give some space though.
We were in ASDA, dh was unloading and I had gone of to get wine something we had forgotten. I got back to find half the shopping unloaded, an almost full belt and someone about to unload, they had stuff in their arms about to place on belt.
I said "excuse me" and promptly put my shopping on the end. I then stood near the end unloading so they couldn't reach. Grin

iwasagirlinavillage · 10/10/2017 21:10

Oh no! I accidentally did this the other day. I only meant to get a few bits so didn't get a basket but ended up with full arms. I thought the man in front of me only had a few more bits to put in from his trolley and left him plenty of space while I dropped my bits onto the conveyer belt, but he seemed to have a Mary Poppins trolley and made more and more appear so I kept moving my stuff back and apologising! Sorry again Mr Aldi Man.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 10/10/2017 21:15

Why is the whole world obsessed with the divider things?

It is perfectly fine to put your shopping on the belt with a gap between the stuff belonging to the person in front and yours. We used to manage without them not that long ago. Now you get idiots becoming apoplectic if there's no divider! You know the belt works without them don't you?? It won't self destruct!

dudsville · 10/10/2017 21:15

Never happened to me. I must have the power of space demarcation. Watch my cape fly!

Ewanwhosearmy · 10/10/2017 21:26

Someone did this to me in Aldi last week. I just kept shoving their stuff further and further back. Eventually the man twigged and said "oh dear, have you got enough room?" and I said no. (Wife had started unloading). They then had to move everything back.

WeAllHaveWings · 10/10/2017 21:30

Never seen this happen either, everyone waits for the person in front to empty their trolley first and if they are nice out the divider up so show they are done. If anyone started loading when I had items in my trolley I wouldn't be able to help myself, stop unloading and say sorry I'm not finished yet, and then stare then out until they moved their stuff.

Lorddenning1 · 10/10/2017 21:45

Maybe it just happens at Aldi, so has anyone had the space invader at the tills yet?

Welshmaenad · 10/10/2017 21:58

Nope, it happens in Sainsbury's too.

And after receiving a gobful of abuse for politely asking for more space for the remaining half-trolleyload I was yet to put on the belt, and being sworn at several times, I used the divider she had placed to sweep her stuff off the end of the belt and onto the floor.

In my defence I was having a really bad day.

RainyDayBear · 10/10/2017 22:01

Happened to me last week, also at Aldi! I just cheerily said "sorry, we still have quite a bit to go." They stopped.

Ttbb · 10/10/2017 22:02

This has never happened to me.
