Ex-teacher here and the changes to assessment and streaming at DD's school 'to ensure the school is following the latest research' have brought back memories of the numerous new initiatives I had to adapt to using over the years.

AIBU to ask you to tell me about your favourite and least favourite teaching fads? Which ones were a waste of time and which have proved their worth.

Oh god. Things like that make me want to kill people. It's lucky I only do supply, private tutoring and bits of very part time teaching these days. Just reading about this kind of crap online gives me the rage. I don't think I could cope with actual INSET days etc and HoDs with exciting new innovations any more!

I've read it 5 times now Euphemia and have absolutely no fucking idea what it means. Confused I'd ignore and carry on.

It's more the sort of thing I'd expect to see on W1A Grin

We had a teacher recently whose whole room was plastered with that kind of shite Euphemia. She was without doubt the worst teacher I have encountered. Year after year, the teachers who took her classes on were appalled at how far behind they were compared to other classes. Thankfully she has now left as is now wreaking havoc in another town.

There was once a fad for not having a chair for each child in the class. The thinking behind this was that they should never all be sitting down at the same time Hmm

I have been asked to put up some corporate displays in my classroom. I’ve refused. My room is well planned, everything is there for a reason, however tangential, and everyone who comes in comments on it. So fuck off with your ‘consistency’ - I teach kids, not robots...

Eolian- me too! I don't think I could cope with any more faffy ideas.
Btw not sure if England schools had to do a complete scheme rewrite to incorporate the LNF but it's been a massive pain in the backside in Wales. Probably to be forgotten about before too long...
