To ignore speeding fine

wowimamazing · 08/10/2017 23:25

Found out I had a speeding fine sent to an old address. Didn’t respond obviously and it’s been 10 weeks and not heard anything else. Should I just keep quiet.

At the moment you're likely only looking at 3 points. Considering you already have 6 us it really worth risking your licence. At least you'll keep it with 9

wowimamazing · 09/10/2017 12:25

Thank you Anchor. Yes I am talking with a motoring solicitor today who has been extremely helpful

You committed an offence. Suck it up. Pay and stop gaining points. Or lose your licence.
Actually carry on as you are. Lose your licence.

hertsandessex · 09/10/2017 12:28

This is crazy. Take the three points immediately. You won't get 6 for not notifying address and will keep license. If you piss around will end up much worse. You are worried about insurance premium going up but talking about specialised solicitors. How much do you think that is going to cost?

wasonthelist · 09/10/2017 12:28

Anyone here beginning to think the OP is just a wind up merchant?

I was thinking that - surely no-one is actually really like this?

Setting aside the actual criminal offences, OP seems to think this is Pistonheads not Mumsnet.

PoorYorick · 09/10/2017 12:28

It's not a hunt if you turn up on a broomstick with a green face and ask everyone in the vicinity where your ruby slippers are.

PestoSwimissimos · 09/10/2017 12:29

I bet your motoring legal advisor hasn’t advised you to ‘keep quiet’.

Tiddlywinks63 · 09/10/2017 12:29

You're clearly a very slow learner if six points on your licence hasn't taught you anything op.
With a bit of luck you'll be banned as you obviously aren't a safe driver.

*I'm late to the party, but doesn't your insurance become invalid if you fail to update your address?

It’s no party. It’s a witch hunt. And no it doesn’t.*

Yes, it does. From www.uswitch.com/car-insurance-10-things-you-must-do-to-stay-legal/

*Tell the truth

There are many variables that affect the cost of your car insurance cover, including your age, driving experience, address and your claims and convictions history. You’re legally required to disclose all of these facts to your insurer, so don’t be tempted to lie in an attempt to reduce the cost of your cover.

Lying on your application (misrepresentation) is a form of insurance fraud, and will invalidate your policy so you won’t be covered if you attempt to make a claim.*

Actually the first thing she said was don’t believe any advice you read on the internet !! Lol GrinBiscuit

I am still trying to understand why you seem determined not to face up to this, speak with them, pay the fine, do the right thing....? Are you worried about the financial penalty or getting more points, or both?

Your total lack of integrity is worrying.

thatdearoctopus · 09/10/2017 12:31

Perfect response, Yorick.
Grin

wowimamazing · 09/10/2017 12:34

You are all such suck-it-up people. Nobody has any fight these days. I am taking responsibility !!! I’m not blasé!! But I don’t have to sign my life away at every official looking document that comes through the letter box. No wonder everyone is in debt these days!

OP posts:
deepestdarkestperu · 09/10/2017 12:35

Hmm Biscuit

Ifailed · 09/10/2017 12:36

No wonder everyone is in debt these days

Only those who bury their heads in the sand and don't take responsibility for themselves.

Sirzy · 09/10/2017 12:36

So what’s your argument not to pay the speeding fine then? Presumably it was your car so unless you can prove someone else was driving it then what’s the plan?

wasonthelist · 09/10/2017 12:37

OP, you so funny :)

May I suggest Pistonheads would be more suitable for your "I am sticking it to the man by always driving like a tool and never paying any steenkin fines etc" attitude? Although you might struggle for sympathy even there.

wasonthelist · 09/10/2017 12:39

No wonder everyone is in debt these days

Eh? Because they all drive like twats and don't pay the fines?

AdalindSchade · 09/10/2017 12:40

How do you plan on arguing that you never received the notification when you are going to be calling them in response to...receiving the notification?

SillyMoomin · 09/10/2017 12:40

fine op, if you've got yourself a motoring lawyer (who will be charging you a lot more than "just" the fine) then you carry on.

FFS

The stupidity of some people...

Bubblebubblepop · 09/10/2017 12:41

OP 😂😂😂😂 how would you know about everyone being in debt nowadays? You've only been old enough to get debt for a year or so.

TeaAndToast85 · 09/10/2017 12:41

Hi, I got a speeding fine and I paid it, but forgot to send off my license etc because I'm a bit dippy with stuff like that. I got another 3 points added on top of the original 3. I have 9 points now for getting caught speeding twice. I drive like an actual granny now

QueenBeet · 09/10/2017 12:42

PoorYorick, I may be in love with you...

exWifebeginsat40 · 09/10/2017 12:45

alright then, here’s what happened to me recently.

i had a letter saying i was charged with speeding (camera evidence) and failing to identify the driver of the vehicle when required to do so.

the original ticket was from December 2016. got the summons in august 2017.

we have a problem with our address in that a house with same number and road name, 5 miles away, has had our mail, some amazon things and, memorably, a £500 oak wardrobe delivered. satnav for couriers seems to be a lottery, but Royal Mail gets it wrong sometimes as well.

i had never received the original letter. i have the correct address on my licence - it just went to the wrong house. occasionally the occupants bring us mail, but it’s entirely dependant on goodwill.

so. i could plead guilty or not guilty for 2 offences. not guilty meant going to court. the thing is, i had to plead guilty to both offences as i had broken the speed limit then failed to confirm my identity.

panic set in! i went online and submitted a guilty plea. i took a screenshot on google maps of the 2 houses, explained the problem and apologised for speeding. i also sucked it up and said sorry for the failing to identfy charge.

i got the response and luckily for me i was given 3 points and £180 fine. it could have been up to a grand so i was very lucky.

you won’t be able to ignore this. if it goes to court in your abscence and finds you guilty you’re going to be pinging ANPR in every traffic car you encounter. and then the whole thing goes round again, except you’re getting another 6 points and a ban, plus a lot of money in fines.

it’s the digital age, OP. no more tax discs in the post or running around with no insurance. your number plate will light up every ANPR like a christmas tree. so you’d better make sure you don’t drink or drug-drive on the regular - drug wipes are standard now for vehicle stops and a lot of people are losing licences for weed/coke that would never have been checked before.

it snowballs, is what i’m saying. but yeah, go hog-wild and fuck tha police etc. good luck with that.
