To ignore speeding fine

wowimamazing · 08/10/2017 23:25

Found out I had a speeding fine sent to an old address. Didn’t respond obviously and it’s been 10 weeks and not heard anything else. Should I just keep quiet.

You didn't get the notice because you failed to notify the DVLA of your new address. Which is, as many many other posters have pointed out, is a criminal offence. You cannot use one criminal offence as a defence against another. Well you can try but the court will laugh at you. Before taking your licence away.

FuckingFuckIt · 09/10/2017 12:10

But you have got the notice. And you moved out of the registered keeper address weeks before changing it with the DVLA. It won't take much for your lies to be discovered.

Be honest. You're only going to make things worse by lying.

You were probably speeding.
You didn't change the registered keeper address when you moved out of home with ex.
You only changed the registered keeper address when you asked ex about letters and collected your post.

But clearly you just want people to say "it's okay, they don't chase these things up and you can easily lie your way out of it anyway."

deepestdarkestperu · 09/10/2017 12:11

But it's your fault you didn't get the notice. It's not because you were away on holiday for three months, or you were in hospital or something, it's because you failed to notify the DVLA of a change in address.

Forgetting to change your address is not an excuse for not paying your fines.

LoniceraJaponica · 09/10/2017 12:12

"Thanks a lot.* I name changed for this as it’s obviously an embarrassing thing to admit. Some really unhelpful remarks.*"

Because you don't appear to be taking anything that has been said on here on board.

wowimamazing · 09/10/2017 12:13

I understand that but I think it’s reasonable that if a fine occurs at the same time as moving house that that is a good excuse as to not responding. It’s not unusual to take a few weeks to update addresses on things like drivers licence. I think a judge would surely look at that as a good reason.

WitchesHatRim · 09/10/2017 12:14

Waiting for OPs next thread where they are upset because they have lost their license.

wowimamazing · 09/10/2017 12:14

Some people wait years before changing address on stuff!! I don’t think 2 months would be seen as criminal

OP posts:
RainbowPastel · 09/10/2017 12:15

You admit if was at least ten weeks OP. That is not a reasonable time at all. You are deluded if you think you can get away with this.

wowimamazing · 09/10/2017 12:16

Well we will see won’t we. I’m not going to just roll over and take 9 points am I??

OP posts:
RainbowPastel · 09/10/2017 12:17

It's not your decision to make.

PoorYorick · 09/10/2017 12:17

I'm not going to just roll over and take 9 points am I??

It'll be as good a method as any for travelling when you've lost your licence for being utterly stupid.

Just pay the bloody fine!

deepestdarkestperu · 09/10/2017 12:18

By all means argue it in court. Either way you'll end up with a fine and points, so the sooner you tackle it, the better. You don't want to risk the fine going up even more.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 09/10/2017 12:18

So 6 points on your licence already and not for speeding so you were either caught driving on the phone, no insurance or careless/dangerous driving, and now youve been caught speeding, whats your collection of points trying to tell you OP?

thatdearoctopus · 09/10/2017 12:19

It's not negotiable. If you've incurred those points, you don't have a choice.

how are people like this allowed on the roads in the first place?!

Pollydonia · 09/10/2017 12:20

What makes you think you have a choice ?

wowimamazing · 09/10/2017 12:21

We wouldn’t have lawyers specialising in motor offences if we had no choice ?

OP posts:
Bubblebubblepop · 09/10/2017 12:21

She's going to say that the letter sending coincided with her moving because not matter how quickly you inform DVLA there is obviously a cross over where your address is outdated
However OP the DVLA know your address was only updated today- can you be sure the police won't check this?

Sirzy · 09/10/2017 12:22

But you should have arranged immediate redirection of mail so even if you hadn’t got round to updating things you would get mail

You keep looking for excuses but the excuses you are coming up with won’t get you anywhere and the more you dig the more of an issue you risk making it!

PuppyMonkey · 09/10/2017 12:22

"Some helpful advice" the majority of which OP is going to happily ignore. Grin

MrsXx4 · 09/10/2017 12:23

I'm late to the party, but doesn't your insurance become invalid if you fail to update your address?

wowimamazing · 09/10/2017 12:23

I think it’s a good argument for a slow reply at least. I can tackle the issue of whether I was speeding or not later

OP posts:
Ttbb · 09/10/2017 12:24

Only if you want it to cost more.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/10/2017 12:24

End of.

This is one of the most ridiculous statements being bandied around atm “end of”. It’s so rude and an aggressive way to shut the discussion down. I’m right, you’re wrong, not interested in what you have to say.

Good luck with trying to keep your license when you’ve already got 6 points. Ignorance and stupidity really is no excuse.

wowimamazing · 09/10/2017 12:24

I'm late to the party, but doesn't your insurance become invalid if you fail to update your address?

It’s no party. It’s a witch hunt. And no it doesn’t.

OP posts:
AnchorDownDeepBreath · 09/10/2017 12:24

I think it’s a good argument for a slow reply at least.

Legally, sadly it’s not.

Can you afford to see a solicitor specialising in motor offences today? If you are determined to avoid 9 points; I think that’s your only chance.
