To really appreciate my DH after all the horror stories here?

Not a TAAT but inspired by all the women who's husbands/partners are selfish arseholes. I was reading several threads this afternoon and told my DH just how much I appreciate him. We share all household and baby responsibilities and he's respectful and thoughtful. I don't want to sound like I'm boasting, but I'm genuinely feeling incredibly lucky to have met such a wonderful man. So this is raising a glass to all the wonderful men out there who are brilliant partners and fathersHalo

Once you find someone compatible, I agree that you have to put some effort into the relationship
The luck is coming across that person in the first place :)

I’m so glad I didn’t date in the Tinder era ...!

This is a pretty smug thread. We know there are good men out there (my dh is one). But I would not rub others' face in it.

Well, no one has to open it do they? There has been threads started on MN talking about their wonderful dads. Mine was abusive. Are they rubbing my face in it? No. I just wouldn't open it if I was in a place where it might sting to read.

I have an amazing man. After my first marriage and seeing my mum with a few abusive men I wouldn't accept anything less though. I had to learn the hard way.

Its ironic that U2 shut down this thread as they are such a smug anodyne band :)
And a more uplifting thread does have a place among the support through traumas, angst, CFNs & non-problems! :)

I use Jeremy kyle for that. It was like audio visual privacy for me. I have moved abroad now and miss my occasional - 'well at least it's not that bad' telly

Oblomov17 · 19/10/2017 10:20

I am regularly surprised by how useless some men are. Only on MN and JK do I see such things.

2014newme · 19/10/2017 10:21

I know some women pick total Idiots to marry and even worse ones to have kids with.

2014newme · 19/10/2017 10:22

I know of no men in real life like the men on mn.

Columbine1 · 19/10/2017 10:26

Sorry! It wasn't U2 it was Blueshoes who derailed it. Its really not rubbing people's faces in it to sometimes pause & be grateful.

thecatsthecats · 19/10/2017 10:31

I swear my uterus vomits a little when I read some awful story about a lazy dad who doesn't show interest in the kids then read the words 'I'm also pregnant'.

My fiance is by no means perfect, but then neither am I, so it's just as well. I think one of the things that makes our relationship really tick is that we discuss EVERYTHING. When we want to buy a house. When we want to have kids. Fair division of labour with kids/house. Savings. Retirement goals.

Yes, best laid plans and all that, but it seems like so many people on here are asking questions they should be able to ask their partners before anyone else, or worse, they're asking strangers way after the fact.

I'm a happily single woman (widowed now but previous to that I had been married then divorced then engaged Confused )this was .over a period of 22 years, mind.
I settled twice. My DD won't. As a result there were frequent desperately unhappy times. .
This thread is lovely to read as it serves up the idea that there are decent, kind, best friend type of guys out there. Problem is finding a single one. Grin I am relishing being single for a while but it does give me hope for the future.

Columbine1 · 19/10/2017 11:40

I think there was a time I stopped enjoying being single and wanted a special person to share things with. I also came to feel (maybe internalised society's view?) there must be something wrong with me that I couldn't 'do' this thing that everyone else could & did.
However I wasn't willing/able to settle so it took a long time for DP to appear...not sure if this is the right thread....

LittleLionMansMummy · 19/10/2017 11:50

Agree op. When people say 'you're so lucky to have a husband like that', I say 'not really. I was attracted to him and chose him precisely because he is like that.' But essentially yes, I am regularly reminded of what a good choice I made. 😉

opalshine · 19/10/2017 12:16

So this thread is for everyone to boast basically?

Columbine1 · 19/10/2017 12:46

Opal please go and find a thread you can participate in constructively. Horses for courses...
I don't think its boasting & I'm not doing so in saying it took till my 50s to acquire a decent partner!! Missed out on 20+ years etc
