...just saw this on breakfast tv

"babygrooves" dark, nightclubby set up for parents and babies who miss clubbing

quote from a dad "well it's not really cool but it's better than going to the park or something"

nailpolish · 10/04/2007 08:11

ie stinks of fags and stale beer
ripped seats
£20 to get in

then you have to stand outside for an hour and 40 mins to get a taxi home

zippitippitoes · 10/04/2007 08:15

lol it did look pretty seedy...little paper notices pasted up saying nappy changing and an arrow

twas somewhere in the metrollops

nailpolish, I thought you were making a point about WOHM vs SAHM

(until I looked more closely at the spelling)

Surely this won't catch on

WanderingTrolley · 10/04/2007 09:05

lol nailpolish

There's always a vomit incident in a nightclub, but I guess that's what they'll be using the babies for.

Durmstrang · 10/04/2007 09:10

Hmm... I bet this nightclub is doing really well financially, and is just doing this as a service to the community.
It's taking diversification a little too far, IMO.
What next?
Disco for Dogs.
Kindergarten Karaoke.
Abba and Asbo Nite.

Katy44 · 10/04/2007 09:15

Does it have a kebab shop outside with nappy changing /feeding facilities?

NotQuiteCockney · 10/04/2007 09:15

I would go to this! Well, maybe.

Was this a London thing?

I remember reading about a chill-out session for people with kids, it was Sunday afternoon, lounging about, papers, games, drinks, food. West London, or I would have been tempted.

3andnomore · 10/04/2007 09:18

rofl...what a bad idea is this....but gotta laugh, right, or else you cry...
shudderring at the thought, though

zippitippitoes · 10/04/2007 09:24

sure it was london..30 somethings

Ok, found the webpage here . Thing is, both my boys really enjoy dancing, I think it could be fun.

fannyannie · 10/04/2007 09:49

and it does say that all events are non-smoking

Carmenere · 10/04/2007 09:55

I remember reading about this a good while ago(3 years?). Iirc it was possibly Caitlin Morans husband who was bringing their baby to it. I could be wrong though.

shirleymac · 10/04/2007 09:56

Oh dear

FrannyandZooey · 10/04/2007 09:58

We went to a baby rave last year and it was totally fab

there were loads of toddlers dancing and having a great time, funky lights, slide show, couple of decks, giant parachute, loads of gym balls and swirly material to play with

oh plus face painting

all the parents and children loved it - I asked them if they would do it every week but unfortunately they tour around the country and were just visiting our little town

fannyannie · 10/04/2007 09:59

and is having a bar at these events any different to visiting a Wacky Warehouse (or similar) attached to a pub.......or even worse have a boozy BBQ at home????

NotQuiteCockney · 10/04/2007 10:01

Well, Frances, if you're up for a London visit, we could trek across town to one of these, if you like.

My two are obsessed with bloody Mika at the moment, singing along. It's quite odd to hear DS2 saying 'Say ahh' along with the song from the back of the car.

pansypants · 10/04/2007 10:28

i think its very sad, and why cant children stay chidren....

FrannyandZooey · 10/04/2007 10:28

Oh yes, let's do it

have just spent entire year's fun budget on ds's birthday party but as soon as I can scratch a few pennies together

FrannyandZooey · 10/04/2007 10:29

What's not child-friendly about music and dancing? We are a bit odd as a culture to have our own adult music venues and rituals that exclude children, IMO

NotQuiteCockney · 10/04/2007 10:37

I too am puzzled by the 'let children stay children' quote. I don't think they're pulling or boozing at these events ...

Hey, we could even have an MN mini-meet at one of these ...

cupcakes · 10/04/2007 10:43

It just looks like a regular children's disco. With the lights turned off.
