To ask about your blonde lady moustache?

Bit of a random question and I'm almost afraid to ask people about it in real life.

I am naturally fair and as I am getting older, have been getting a few whiskers and a bit more hair on my upper lip. I have electroloysis every now and then for the stronger, whiskery hairs and a few of the ones from my upper lip but still have a covering of fairly downy blonde hairs in the moustache area. This mainly shows up if I'm under a strong light but is not visible in the way that dark hairs would be. Still I find myself looking at a lot of other women who appear to have completely smooth upper lips and presumably wax them. I would do laser in a heartbeat but as far as I know, it doesn't work on blonde hair.
Does anyone have any advice? Do you have a blonde moustache? Do you do anything with it?

My sideburns and tasche are mainly quite fair with a few dark ones.
I get threaded every 6 weeks or so. The sideburns hurt like billy-o!

I don't like seeing tasches on ladies. I do feel like someone should tap them on the shoulder and have a gentle word. Flame away.

I’ve tried a few things but I like this the best, it’s a bit nippy but it’s quick! Facial Epilator

museumum · 07/10/2017 15:37

I’m just starting to get this (41, natural blonde). I might try some veet very carefully - that’s what I use for my underarms and lasts me a fortnight there.

OlennasWimple · 07/10/2017 15:44

Another 40+ natural blonde here, starting to grapple with this issue

I use that springy thing too (I got two for 99p from Amazon, so figured it wasn't an expensive mistake if it didn't work). Painful until you get the hang of it, then much the same as waxing.

I don't aim for full hair removal as I CBA - I just want to keep on top of the particularly long / sticky out bits. Ditto the rest of my face.

One thing that makes me very very nervous is what has happened on my legs: I have shaved / waxed my lower legs for 25+ years, and although the hair is mostly still blonde, a fair few grow through darker. (They are actually darker, not just a blunt end from shaving making them seem darker - I have put them on white paper to check....). Above my knee I still have wholly blonde, fine hair, and I think I have only ever shaved there once or twice. Ie I'm worried about my tache hair coming back darker than now, making the maintenance work more and more onerous....

HemanOrSheRa · 07/10/2017 15:44

I second eyebrow razors. I've got a Lilibeth of New York one. It's good for removing all small areas of unwanted hair. Not sure it would stand up to tidying my bikini line though Grin.

Madbum · 07/10/2017 15:50

Blonde? I wish! I look like Magnum fucking P.I if I don’t shave the fuzzy fucker.

healthyheart · 07/10/2017 15:52

When I get my eyebrows waxed -not very often- I ask the beautician if my top lip needs waxing and get it done there and then if she says it needs doing, which is probably once a year. Meanwhile I tweezer out any bad ones.

healthyheart · 07/10/2017 15:52

Strike through fail

PickAChew · 07/10/2017 16:03

Mine is slightly darker than blonde but I leave it alone because it looks infinitely better than the cold sores I get if I do anything more than just wash around there.

TheBusThatCouldntSlowDown · 07/10/2017 16:08

I have loads of blonde hair on my face; I look like a talking peach, so I epilate it now. I used to use the eyebrow razors (they're called 'Tinkle' on Amazon) but you have to do it so often, epilating lasts longer.

Threading will hurt more than waxing OP, but with threading there's no risk of being burned with hot wax and then having a moustache burn on your face signalling to Joe Public that you're a hairy bastard, so the agony is worthwhile I think.

showergel1 · 07/10/2017 16:17

I get mine waxed when I get my brows done. No big deal.

blueberrypie0112 · 07/10/2017 16:21

If this is something new, it doesn’t always hurt to have it checked out (PCOS is one)

DameDaffodil · 07/10/2017 16:54

Threading normally lasts about 6 weeks for me and the tache is growing back more sparsely. Also get my chinny chin chin done Grin

WillowWeeping · 07/10/2017 19:31

hula jeez there's always one Hmm

smallguineapig · 07/10/2017 19:39

I'm a bit worried that I'm that lady with the golden tache glistening under a light and nobody is telling me!

My colleague is 68 & in this situation, she gets any hairs threaded by her beautician.

rubybleu · 07/10/2017 20:49

I’ve always been a touch hairy and also translucent. I get my upper lip & chin threaded every six weeks or so and have done so since I was in my early 20s.

Liquid foundation tends to highlight pale facial hair and make it very obvious.

itsbetterthanabox · 07/10/2017 23:20

For permanent hair reduction of downy hair an course of alkaline wash treatments can be very effective.
For normal hair removal getting threading is best as it can be blended in so no harsh lines of hair and no hair.

sykadelic · 08/10/2017 03:39

I use a sensitive hair removal cream as well. I used to get it waxed and that was fine, but it ends up being $$ when you add up how often you need to get it done PLUS I was also finding that I'd have a special event coming up and couldn't get an appointment so I got some cream to keep at home and ended up just doing that every 6 weeks or so.

Ideally I'd like to have it lasered off... mine is VERY obvious under certain lights :(

WineAndTiramisu · 08/10/2017 03:46

Hair removal cream is the way forwards
I tried the sand paper stuff for hair first, ended up with a scabby top lip, never again!

Sunnysidegold · 08/10/2017 06:56

Another natural blonde here. Fluffy face, hairy neck and spiky hairs on chin, upper corners of mouth a wee bit noticeable. Went to salon and the girl.did a combination of waxing and threading all over the lower part of my face and my neck. Amazing. Have it done three months ago and just needing it done again now.im 37.

DolceRita · 08/10/2017 08:28

I am a natural blonde too and have only just discovered a solution. Blonde hair really seems to catch the light and twinkle. I was hoping to just leave my tache alone, but didn't know how obvious it was to other people. I was a bit paranoid people would be judging my lip hair.

I tried threading a few months ago. It works beautifully on my eyebrows, but it made my top lip come out in angry red acne. Very embarrassing!!!!!

Only last weekend I tried Nair hair removal cream for the first time on my top lip. It worked a treat. Smooth as a baby's bum and no red acne. Slight regrowth a week later which I shall be removing today.

( I also have the odd coarse blonde chin hair that I pluck out and a big black monster hair that grows out my neck. The war on facial hair will never end).

Notevilstepmother · 08/10/2017 08:41

I shave or use sensitive cream when I can be bothered.

smallguineapig · 08/10/2017 14:21

Thanks everyone. Have just been to Boots and got some nair for upper lip so will give that a go. I might try waxing for regrowth depending on how it goes. I'm interested to see how it looks fuzz free later!

smallguineapig · 08/10/2017 15:30

Ok. I've done the deed. Upper lip looks nice and smooth and process was quite easy. BUT I now have a couple of much more visible pucker lines on my upper lip that must have seemed less pronounced under a layer of fuzz. You can't really win with trying to hold back the years can you? I might have accidentally aged myself Confused
