To ask what movie scene never fails to make you cry even after numerous watches

I’m watching Moana with the kids today, for the billionth time (I don’t mind as I love the film) and no matter how hard I try I always cry at the scene where the grandma tells Moana to go and find Maui, then she’s dies and her spirit fish swims into the sea and above Moana. You’d think I would be immune to it by now, but no!

What makes you cry every time?

Yeah I think the 'cold'/eye streaming allergies thing is contagious from this thread sniff

Another couple for me - near the end of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind when Joel is losing his last memories of Clemetine and trying to cling onto them.

And this scene from Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium -

Beautiful acting all round, just heart breaking.

Imitations of Life.

JayDot500 · 08/10/2017 17:15

@ Accidentaly I will never ever watch Boy with the Striped Pajamas again!!! Ever!!!! Neverrrrrr! I'm traumatised yet can't even begin to imagine the suffering of real Jewish people 😭😭😭

A lot of my favourite film moments have been mentioned already, but wanted to add 'Twinsters' on Netflix, where twins adopted out meet irl. I love the end. POP!

alltoomuchrightnow · 08/10/2017 18:06

Mollie, I was going to say that scene...and when they burn the house down with the mother in it as they think it's the most respectful thing rather than have her hauled out..
Leo is amazing in that film. Whenever anyone criticises his acting, I ask them if they've seen it. It's my favourite JD film too.

Mollie85 · 08/10/2017 18:12

The whole film alltoomuch. ''Tis a sob fest!
I really rate Leo as an actor - he is so diverse.

I even liked him in The Great Gatsby and no one else liked that film! 😁

What dreams may come- pretty much all of it. I basically could use a whole box of Kleenex.

Guiltypleasures001 · 08/10/2017 18:25

Four weddings and a funeral, where he's reading the eulogy in front of the coffin, Typing about it even upsets me 😩

RedAppleTree · 08/10/2017 18:43

The animated film, My Life as a Courgette.
Thinking it was just a lighthearted kids film we went along but it was actually very sad, about kids in a children's home, but really well done.

gloriawasright · 08/10/2017 23:11

I now I keep remembering more ,
The scene in 'she's having a baby' where the birth suddenly goes wrong and Kevin bacon is hustled out of the labour room .the music is this woman's work by Kate bush .the whole film had been all light and fluffy until that moment ,then bang .its not funny any more .
I can't listen to that song without crying now .

TJ2503 · 08/10/2017 23:12

The part where Mufasa dies in The Lion King....I’m 35 years old and still have to fast forward that scene...

The 'Circle of Life's opening scene of the Lion King.

The bit in Up where he finds the book where she was going to document all their adventures and he thinks it's empty, but then sees she filled it with all the stuff they did do together 😭😭😭

melj1213 · 08/10/2017 23:36

The last scene of Stand By Me makes me cry, with River Phoenix's character just fading out as it's so hauntingly prophetic but the scene that makes me cry like a baby is when Phoenix's character Chris breaks down and cries in the middle of the forest because he feels like he has no chance in life and is pre-judged because of his family's reputation and he just wanted the opportunity to be treated like any other kid instead of automatically being labeled as "that kid". It kills me because I know this is still the reality for some kids - people hear they're "One of the Smith kids" and make assumptions about them and perpetuates a cycle that most of them will never get out of.

And the resurrection stone scene in the final Harry Potter film - the acting is terrible but it still gets me every time.

Me too - it's not as powerful as the book but every time Harry asks the "Why are you all here?" and Lily tells him "We never left" with that sad smile, kills me every single time. Literally sitting here crying just thinking about it

nicenewdusters · 08/10/2017 23:41

The end of the Wizard of Oz. The Tin Man looks at Dorothy, knowing he'll never see her again, and says now he knows he has a heart - because it's breaking.

IWouldLikeToSeeTheseMangoes · 09/10/2017 06:46

gloria totally with you on that one the song just makes it. And Bacon mentally going over all their life together while it's happening. Kate Bush singing makes me tear up too.

gloriawasright · 09/10/2017 08:09

@iwouldliketomeetthosemangoes
And how Elizabeth macgovern wants to be the one to tell him he has a son ,he thinks they already lost the baby .its done so beautifully.
The cameos at the end are great too .
I want to watch it now

gloriawasright · 09/10/2017 08:10

@IWouldLikeToSeeTheseMangoes sorry ,misread your name .

coldcanary · 09/10/2017 08:35

Most of Schindler’s List but mainly the scenes with the little girl in the red coat and where he talks about how many more he could have saved if he’d sold the car or his suit. And the scene at the grave with the survivors and the cast. I saw it at the cinema with an Ex. I was sobbing - the lights went up and there was a group I hadn’t noticed near us. Turns out they were from the local synagogue. They were just sat silently.
A silly one but at the end of Return of the Jedi where Luke sees Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin watching him and smiling. It got worse when they changed Anakin for the young one!
Monsters Inc at the end where he finds her again and she says ‘Kitty’ so happily. DS can’t even watch that bit!

Clawdy · 09/10/2017 09:50

The English Patient, where he's carrying her body, sobbing. Neither character is particularly likeable, but somehow that made it more upsetting.

RuggerHug · 09/10/2017 10:25

Bimbo that's the scene I was talking about up thread from cool runnings! 'I'm not dead.....but I have to finish the race'.

HOWLING!Sad

MattAlbie · 09/10/2017 10:28

Oh, and Inside Out as well (all of it).

IWouldLikeToSeeTheseMangoes · 09/10/2017 11:01

Gloria me too, beautiful scene! I made mistake of watching it when heavily pregnant and extra hormonal cried my eyes out.
