To have expected logs to be stacked?

Changerazelea · 05/10/2017 17:55

Had a delivery of logs today, delivery driver tipped them in my driveway and then proceeded to tell me "We don't stack love"
Spent the next 2 hours moving and stacking them into my garage while DS screamed and I berated myself for not being assertive enough to have insisted driver helped me move into garage.
Does common courtesy no longer exist? Driver seeing me with baby in arms surely should have offered to help...
First world problems but AIBU?

Had my logs delivered today and stacked beautifully in the log store which is round the back so now I always use the same man. If you're in Oxfordshire let me know and I will pass his number on to you.

Foxglove I wish I was!

You serioulsy think they should spend 2 hours stacking your logs just because you have a baby?

Foxglovesandsweetpeas · 05/10/2017 18:06

I know - it sounds like I'm very lucky having read these comments. I will send him a text now to thank him as it sounds like he goes the extra mile and I hadn't appreciated that this wasn't the norm.

goshthatseemsalot · 05/10/2017 18:06

We pay an extra £30 to have them stacked. I rather pluck my eyeballs out than stack logs. They do it far better than us and we don't need to have an argument about it.

Wooders09 · 05/10/2017 18:06

We've got a log burner and have had several deliveries of logs over the years. They have never stacked the logs and I wouldn't expect them to either. They have to deliver to several different people on a daily basis, so stacking everyone's logs would be unmanageable.

HellsBellsnBucketsofBlood · 05/10/2017 18:06

They don't stack. It's hard with a baby, but I recommend sticking the baby in the pram and doing the stacking in 10 minute bursts

Schmoozer · 05/10/2017 18:06

Stack them for you !!! 😂 That's hilarious !! Not the drivers fault you chose to move them whilst your baby cried !! Doh, move them
Later ???

blackteasplease · 05/10/2017 18:07

I don't think you were U, OP so not a universal opinion!

I think it's a question of all parties being aware of what is paid for TBh. Was it you who arranged the delivery or another member of the household? I guess it's always worth making sure what is included and if logs are to be dumped on the drive making sure someone with a babe in arms is not home alone when the delivery takes place.

stayathomegardener · 05/10/2017 18:07

DH has a log company, I sometimes take the calls.
Trust me he NEVER stacks logs.
I don't know anyone who does.
He does deliver them contained in ton bags and will give customers a piece of spare plastic to sheet them over usually until the weekend when they have time to stack them.
Hardwood with a moisture content under 17% far too good to get wet.
I would be concerned that you may also have unseasoned logs if the company really doesn't care if they get wet.
If you had asked I'm sure you would have got a price for stacking.

Toomanypackingboxes · 05/10/2017 18:07

I have had several different log companies deliver logs, some stack, some don't. I usually look at the website for a company first and the more expensive ones stack, the people who haven't stacked were cheaper telephone only often as part of a tree surgeon company. You can also buy pre stacked crates that are delivered in their pre sorted state. If you need them stacked just pick one of the companies that do this unless it is a Northern only thing?

Littlechocola · 05/10/2017 18:07

I love stacking our logs. I'd be quite put out if the driver did it 😂
I have a dog.

steff13 · 05/10/2017 18:07

Their job is to deliver. That's what they did. They likely had other customers waiting on deliveries. The tiny baby is neither here nor there.

SingingMySong · 05/10/2017 18:08

Why did you have to let the baby scream, rather than just wait for naptime, bedtime, or reinforcements? We've been known to stick a tarp over them on the driveway until the weekend.

Shifting a whole load of logs is a substantial job, but I'm afraid it's part of owning a woodburner.

Vandree · 05/10/2017 18:08

Never had them stacked either and I've had deliveries when I had babies/toddlers/surgery over the years. The place we use now does them in a huge bag you can store them in, they use a trolly and bring it around the side to the back of the house. We either keep them in the bag with it tied up and a tarp over it or put them in the shed. Very handy

Wineandrosesagain · 05/10/2017 18:08

No, our deliveries are dumped on the drive; 'tis normal. Though when we order logs from a local tree surgeon he does help DH to wheel-barrow them around to the back of the house. Kind chap.

Scoobydoobydont · 05/10/2017 18:09

Why Scooby?

Because it would take him ages and he will have had other paying customers to get to.

Some of them might also have kids, might be elderly, might have jobs to get back to etc etc etc.

He can’t just make an exception for one customer and bugger his whole day up to do you an unpaid favour

Westiegirl3 · 05/10/2017 18:09

Sadly not.. the log delivery driver doesn't stack my light gas and nether does the Sainsbury's delivery driver put way my shopping... I'm surprised you'd think they would

Evelynismyspyname · 05/10/2017 18:10

Ours delivers them on a pallet which we get to keep (and burn last). They deliver with a huge lorry with a forklift in the back. The driver is incredible and can slot the pallet into a cleared space in a full garage, luckily.

stayathomegardener · 05/10/2017 18:10

How much did you pay for what volume of logs?

stella23 · 05/10/2017 18:13

Just because you have a baby doesn't mean he should work for free, maybe he has a babe in arms waiting at home that needs him as much as yours needs you

VeryCunningStunt · 05/10/2017 18:14

Was this your first ever log delivery, OP?

LovelyPrep · 05/10/2017 18:14

Put your baby in a pram/seat or arrange delivery for when someone can help? Confused it's not hard.

SingingMySong · 05/10/2017 18:14

Next time, open your garage door and ask him to reverse as far back towards it as poss.

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 05/10/2017 18:16

OP not meaning to be flippant but you can put the baby down or wait until he or she is napping.
