In celebration of Halloween!

Mine is this one from Poltergeist II. What makes it more upsetting is that Julian Beck who played Henry Kane was suffering from stomach cancer during filming.

My brother use to sneak up on me and starting singing God is in his holy temple from Poltergeist Shock

Mine is the bath banging and the ball rolling down the stairs in The Changeling (original)

TuttiFruttiCutie · 05/10/2017 22:26

Yep, Samara crawling out of the tv in The Ring for me too. Though never as scary when you rewatch as you know what’s going to happen. I was proper spooked and that’s going something for me !

IamDBCooper · 05/10/2017 22:32

Helena I agree it’s very of it’s time I think.

I juts really like that scene because the tune is very jolly but what you see is very sinister.

SuperTrumper · 05/10/2017 22:45

In the Exorcism of Emily Rose when Emily wakes up in the middle of the night at university and is “invaded” by the demon for the first time. The Exorcism scene in the family’s barn was pretty intense too!

Paranormal Activity 4 in every scene that “Kate” appeared. Because we as the audience know she’s demonic

I agree about the twins scene in Shining! Like when Danny is cycling around the hotel floors and they are just stood there at the end of the corridor!

AnnabelleLecter · 05/10/2017 22:55

The woman in black creeping closer and closer in the background.

ShatnersWig · 05/10/2017 23:19

The TV version of Woman in Black was so much better than the Daniel Radcliffe/Hammer film

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 05/10/2017 23:33

The scene in Blair Witch project where he stands facing the corner.

Why did I read these before bedtime? 😩

Not technically a horror but Kathy Bates and the sledgehammer in Misery. I hate anything to do with feet and I felt sick after that!

HelenaDove · 05/10/2017 23:38

Shatner yes i agree it went out on ITV on Christmas Eve 1989. DB and i had to record it as we had to go to midnight Mass. He still has the tape.

ShatnersWig · 05/10/2017 23:43

Helena So do I. But nothing to watch it on. I think you can watch it in sections on YouTube. I wish they'd release it on DVD but apparently whoever owns the rights won't

HelenaDove · 05/10/2017 23:46

Apparently Susan Hill was not happy with the 1989 version.

tutorwho · 05/10/2017 23:49

I found a scene in Rec (the original) really scary! It is when they are in a room and it's dark.. they are using a camera to see in the dark and they have to stay quiet.. then there's a figure coming towards them. Eeek!

ShatnersWig · 05/10/2017 23:50

Then Susan Hill is an idiot, even if she did write the original book. Nigel Kneale made a few tweaks in his script but to my money improved her good story into a great TV film.

tigercub50 · 05/10/2017 23:53

It’s not a film but I still get the shivers thinking about some of the “ Hammer House of Horror “ series. There was one where a man ended up not knowing if he was dreaming or not & he killed his wife. Very unsettling. And again, not a horror film, but I was extremely disturbed by Picnic at Hanging Rock. It left me with a terrible heavy sense of impending doom for ages afterwards.

HelenaDove · 06/10/2017 00:03

tigercub yes that was the estate agent one

HelenaDove · 06/10/2017 00:04

The Horror channel are doing a Stephen King season starting from this Saturday.

Willow2017 · 06/10/2017 00:21

Yes to Hammer Horror and other old horror films.
THe Masque of the Red Death was the most amazing, weird and wonderful film I saw when I was a tween!

Any part of 'Dracula' with Gary Oldman in it but not for the horror effect Wink telling the story of his 'princess' was breathtaking.

The tv in The Grudge - just move you idiot!

Carrie 'crucifying her mum' in Carrie.

That floating vampire boy in 'Salems Lot'.

The 'baby' alien in Alien Ressurection freaked the hell out of me, I hate the ending when he is being pulled out the tiny bit of window makes my stomach heave!

(ok not scary but a fab film, technically a 'horror' Grin )
Teddy1970 · 06/10/2017 00:41

The baby monitor scene from Insidious...creepy as hell.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 06/10/2017 00:45

I’m in bed alone and I can hear creaking in the hallway 😭

Teddy1970 · 06/10/2017 00:57

Actually, the opening credits alone from 'Insidious' will scare the shit out of you...it's really scary.

TenForward82 · 06/10/2017 08:07

Oh yes, the garden scene in Dark Skies! That's eerie.

wanderings · 06/10/2017 08:15

I watched The Conjuring recently. Some of my favourite moments from it are:

  • When the mum and daughter are playing hide and clap, and the ghost joins in.
  • When they accidentally discover secret rooms in the house, including the hangman's rope. Don't pick it up!!
IamDBCooper · 06/10/2017 08:21

I love hammer house of horror!!!

HateSummer · 06/10/2017 08:28

I absolutely love The Conjuring. I recently watched it again with my dh who doesn't scare easily and even he was jumping.

Yes the Misery hobbling scene is brilliant! We used to re-enact that all the time (without the hammer!). There's another scene in Misery where Annie gets angry at Paul for telling her she got the wrong paper. I know the words off by heart. You really get a sense of what a troubled woman she is!
