Are Petit Filous really that bad? What yoghurts do you give to your kids?

From the "is this an acceptable tea" thread yesterday, there was a lots of comments about PF's being bad. So, what yoghurts does everyone give their kids? I need some ideas!

DS (18 months) is a big fan of cake and biscuits, but also loves plain Greek yoghurt. I'm pretty sure they give the fruity ones at nursery but doesn't seem to have put him off the plain stuff at home!

I ate 2 today. Nice yogurt Grin

Children tend to want more than one because you're lucky if you can get two bloody teaspoons out of one pot!

It's the equivalent of me inviting you all.for cheesecake and giving you a farting slither of a piece.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 05/10/2017 22:37

I know how pretentious this sounds but from weaning the DC have only ever had Yo Valley organic natural yog (I also bloody love the stuff. Can't stand the sweetened or low fat ones). DD 9 has hers topped to loads of pomegranate seeds and DS likes it with blueberries or bananas.

Will petit folios kill them? No. But I don't see why they need extra sugar stuffed into something as yummy as natural yoghurt. I especially loathe the ones that are 'perfect' from 4 months and the 2nd ingredient is sugar ffs.

speakout · 05/10/2017 22:39

MrsArchchancellorRidcully not pretentious.

My kids have never eaten yogurt. Not one, sugary or otherwise.

MusicToMyEars800 · 05/10/2017 22:40

I do think the Grams of sugar per pot is a bit crazy.... My DD's have plain natural yogurt with chopped fruit and sometimes with honey too.

Strokethefurrywall · 05/10/2017 22:50

Mine eat Paw Patrol/Frozen/Scooby Doo/Nemo - whatever I can get my hands on. All of them are low fat though and that's my only bug bear - I hate feeding my kids low fat stuff - couldn't give a shite about sugar content though.
I flat out refuse to pay $8 for 6 Little Yeo ones. They also drink danone smoothie yoghurts by the (seemingly) bucketful!

I miss petit filou Sad

When I was weaning my dd I had loads of ideas that I wouldn't let her have too much sugar, processed food etc. Currently she will only eat Peppa pig yogurts, it makes her happy and stops her having a tantrum for the 10th time in a day. I think it's all about balance and keeping my sanity haha.

moggle · 05/10/2017 23:02

Just as another perspective, in 100g of two valley natural yoghurt there is 5.6g sugar; in 100g of petit filous (from strawberry / apricot pack info) there is 9.9g. So 4.3g more sugar which is slightly less than a teaspoon.
For my DD it's the sharp taste of natural yoghurt she doesn't like; sometimes our Waitrose sells the mild Yeo valley and she will tolerate that. I get through so much myself I make it in a easiyo yoghurt maker, I make the flavoured sugary stuff for her and tell kid myself it's better for her because it is still live yoghurt at least... and we don't have hundreds of little plastic pots in the recycling every fortnight.

ZeppelinBend · 05/10/2017 23:04

Mine eat whatever sugar laden ones that are in the plastic fruit shapes. Dd is a fussy mare when it comes to food so I really don't care as she's eating.

Then ds swipes my soya ones once he's nailed all theirs Angry Must learn to hide them in the vegetable crisper.

megletthesecond · 05/10/2017 23:10

Mine used to have PF as toddlers.

DS snuck a whole six pack from the fridge once (he was about 4) and ate it in his bedroom. I could smell the empty pack hidden down the side of his bed.

CountFosco · 05/10/2017 23:18

My DC don't like PF which is great - all the more for me! They eat full fat Greek yoghurt with runny honey drizzled over it. Obviously I'm not worried about the sugar but I dislike all the thickeners put in most flavoured yoghurt.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/10/2017 23:30

My youngest is 11 and likes the full size Yeo valley yoghurts. We have a ridiculous tally of the Yeo tokens. Half of the family are lactose intolerant so I also buy Lactofree yoghurts, which are full fat and bio and quite tasty.

We also get through quite a lot of natural Greek yoghurt; sometimes with berries and granola but more often with sanity food. An Indian style dip with spices and grated cucumber is a favourite and we quite often use instead of sour cream. Also using up loads of natural yog making flatbreads at the moment.
