What did you all think? I was a bit disappointed Blush thought they ended it quite badly and in a really clichéd and melodramatic way.

It was disappointing, but I thought this whole series was a bit cringe-y.

DO3271 · 04/10/2017 14:44

Really weird ending and disappointing ending. The story didn't flow at all. Like most really good mini series the first ones are amazing then all the great feedback makes the writers/producers make another one to ride the wave and they can't do it.

Felt like that about Sherlock to.

ComingUpTrumps · 04/10/2017 16:30

Same DO - I also thought the last series of Sherlock was a bit crap Blush it was a shame, as I really enjoyed the first few series.

I quite enjoyed this series of Dr Foster, but thought they should've ended it at last week's episode instead. Then they would've maybe had a good cliffhanger so they could've made a third series. But as PP have said, maybe they've already planned to make a third series anyway.

Who would watch a third series? Not me for sure. It was too long and that poor son. Some series don't deserve to be renewed, while others, like the brilliant Home Fires, are dumped, although that was ITV being arseholes in that case.

CoolCarrie · 04/10/2017 16:39

Sherlock tried to be bloody clever with that last series, too many egos and crap writers. All that twaddle from MF & BC saying we will make Sherlock until we are old and grey, they have both gone all US now, it won't be back. The same writers ruined Dr Who.

AliceLostInWonderland321 · 04/10/2017 16:41

Didn't like the last episode.

Bad acting.

Bad editing- it looked terrible when they showed Simon in front of the road, he was obviously in front of a green screen.

The whole episode consisted of Simon looking for Gemma, Gemma looking for Simon and finally Gemma looking for Tom.

Boring finale.

raspberrysuicide · 04/10/2017 16:46

I bloody hate it when Simon calls Tom mate all the time. I Don't blame him for running away.

rightnowimpissed · 04/10/2017 16:51

I think people will watch it though for curiosity

acquiescence · 04/10/2017 16:51

Wasn't keen on the final episode but overall I think the characters were very well profiled and that it was an engaging series. I did cry at the end f the last one thinking about my toddler becoming a teenager and hoping I don't mess it all up for him (and his brother who I am incubating, pregnancy hormones obviously).

ParanoidBeryl · 04/10/2017 16:52

I feel pretty much the same. I wasn't convinced by the clever trail she left for Kate to find her at the hotel and that her parents would give her an audience.

Nor was I particularly convinced that there would have been the dramatic moving out scene from the fancy house (although it was a lovely house).

Wasn't convinced that the neighbours across the way (Anna & Neill?) forgave Gemma for sleeping with Neill.

The hungry angry sex scene wasn't convincing.

loobyloo1234 · 04/10/2017 16:54

I wish they'd both been hit by the cars tbh so that Tom could go and live with Anna. The only person who had his interests at heart

The talking to the camera at the end was the final nail in the coffin for me

rightnowimpissed · 04/10/2017 16:58

The hungry angry sex scene wasn't convincing., OMG yes it was disturbing though and if that was your house in real life you'd be bleaching it everywhere and totaly re doing that room. ick!

wildbhoysmama · 04/10/2017 17:01

Agree wholeheartedly that it was pretty awful. The entire time the characters annoyed me profusely, especially Doc Foster herself, she was totally unlikeable and irritating. Bah!

Maverick66 · 04/10/2017 17:01

It was Brutal! What intelligent person would get on like that!

sarasabrownie · 04/10/2017 17:06

I thought it lost the plot - the only surprise was that Tom ran away rather than kill himself and that his mother seemed SURPRISED by this. As if what they'd both put their son through wouldn't have a deleterious effect on him! And the way she didn't just get away from the area when she'd whooped her ex up to a psychotic frenzy at the end. I wouldn't have stuck around for him to find me and her poor son was terrified. The talking to camera at the end made me think they'd really run out of ideas.

BroomHandledMouser · 04/10/2017 17:15

I was disappointed too!

I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't that hunk of shite 😂

EssexGurl · 04/10/2017 17:32

I thought it was quite a good ending. Gemma and Simom were so focused on each other, poor Tom was ignored - unless they needed him to prove a point to the other. Him leaving was totally understandable as neither would have listened to him if he'd told them how he felt.

I have a friend going through a toxic divorce and I do worry about her child. As an only child there is no one to turn to and the parents are using her a bit. Nothing to the Dr Foster situation. I suppose it just ,asks it more relatable to me.

Suranne Jones and Bertie Carvel were just amazing though.

bastardlyandmutley · 04/10/2017 17:37

I didn't particularly enjoy the first series but watched this because there is nothing much else on TV so thought I'd give it another go. I was utterly bemused by the whole thing. The story (what there was of one) wasn't believable neither were the characters. Dr Foster - my arse. Oh and the "raunch" was so cringe-worthy and totally unsexy.

Utter dribble.

BabsGanoush · 04/10/2017 17:42

Backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards. She spent more time in the car.

hollyisalovelyname · 04/10/2017 18:15

Dire, melodramatic rubbish.
Thank goodness my GP is nothing like her.

PressForPancakes · 04/10/2017 18:40

I bloody hate it when Simon calls Tom mate all the time. I Don't blame him for running away.

Oh god, yes. 'A Child Called Mate' in the making.

raspberrysuicide · 04/10/2017 20:40

At one point Tom even said don't call me mate I'm your son not your mate and he still did it!

Did anyone else notice that poor boy was totally shut down and traumatised during that whole episode? The way Gemma kept touching his hair was weird and a bit inappropriate too.

BriechonCheese · 04/10/2017 20:54

We have just caught up and both myself and DH though the ending a pile of crap. Utter horse shit.

You could see the writer visualising a third series with every tap of his keyboard.

toomuchtooold · 05/10/2017 06:04

I liked bits of it. Simon was a fairly convincing emotional abuser - all the lying, gaslighting Gemma about the PND, that sort of thing - and Gemma remaining enmeshed with him, unable to put him out of her mind - it rung true. But the final episode, the idea that she could get through to him, that he would be honest and face up to himself, all that - I guess that's the fairy story that people who've had an abuser in their life often want to believe, but I don't think that makes it very plausible.

Pinkvoid · 05/10/2017 07:19

The whole series was rubbish. The first series ended absolutely perfectly, there was no need to push their luck making a second. The second series was ridiculously over the top and pointless.
