To perform an auto-tonsillectomy ???

Got tonsillitis from DS, who's been suffering for a couple of weeks (he's just one, it's been rotten).

Went back to work at a new company post maternity leave today, and sure enough, that familiar scratchy scouring feeling began up by my inner ear/ tonsil.

It's probably bacterial (as his is) so will need to get some ABs at some point (when? When is there time?!) but am thinking far easier to just remove them myself with a melon baller or similar.

What do you think?

I watched a programme where the presenter was in Belarus. The children were having their tonsils out without anaesthetic. Just thought I'd share OP! Hope you feel better before googling how to get rid of tonsils.

I had 6 weeks of fever, pain, swollen glands and couldnt swallow.
Lost nearly a stone in weight.
Gp insisted it was viral and just go away and gargle.
Finally went to walk in where they did a swab. I was so ill I could barely stand.
I had a penicillin resistant strep B tonsillitis.
They gave me a super strong AB. Only needs 3 doses.
It worked like magic.
I was so fed up that I was so ill for so long. I had a toddler and a baby and honestly thought I was going to die.
This determination to never give anyone antibiotics can be counter productive.

I had a patient many years ago who performed his own circumcision. He made quite a fair job of it actually. Grin

permatiredmum · 04/10/2017 20:25

I had tonsillitis for the first time last winter and felt utterly dreadful, hallucinating and agony even to breathe and whole body covered in weird rash. OOH GP took it very seriously and said it can lead to septicaemia. Not one to ride out without antiBs I don't think

Add some salt to your finger and press down on the infected tonsils! I remember my grandmother doing it to my father years and years ago! Anyhow I tried it myself for the first time a couple of weeks ago as I'm pregnant. Added the salt before I went to bed and then next morning my tonsil was not swollen at all! Went to the docs and she said tonsil was absolutely fine then next day! Result! Although it does sting and is uncomfortable initially.

Nooooo!

Clandestino · 04/10/2017 20:44

I once posted asking how to decapitate myself when I had sinusitis. I think I was joking.

In bed with migraine and sinusitis which requires a 10-day course of clarithromycin. A decapitation sounds like a solid idea. The triptans sorted out the worst of the attack but I still feel like living in a slow-motion movie.
Returning to the original post, how about the ice-cream spoon? Yeah, ice-cream btw. It seriously helps reducing the swelling.

So, I'm 36 hours in with the ABs and after a horrendous night- fever at 41, hallucinating, sweats, shakes, nausea- I think I'm finally through the worst.

Taking DS to nursery for the afternoon so I can pop into the office for a couple of hours (it's my first week back after baby, new company, and I've been in about one day all week) and hoping to stay upright for the duration.

Wish me luck!

And poor everybody else who's currently plague ridden!! Love and solidarity to you all

Also- the auto circumcision is the maddest thing I've ever heard... and I used to work in a&e (non medical staff)

Use one of those hot wire contraptions for cutting polystyrene tiles; it'll cauterise the bleeding as it cuts.

SistersOfPercy · 05/10/2017 11:41

I always considered tonsillitis as a 'bit worse than a sore throat' until DH came down with it.
Didn't know that was what it was at the time, but I have never seen him so ill. He was delirious, didn't know who I was, burning temperature. Somehow managed to bundle him in the car to the emergency GP (though at one point I nearly dialled 999 I was so worried) and they said tonsillitis.

Never again did I judge. Feel better soon Queen.

I think a tree lopper should do the trick Shock

Crunchymum · 05/10/2017 12:46

God this thread has made me shudder.

Had tonsillitis last Xmas (you know, when we had a 4 day weekend). On day 5 I saw the GP and cried.... a lot..... I had also completely lost my voice by this point.

Viral tonsillitis was diagnosed so no AB. It was a miserable time, took me weeks to recover and I picked up several coughs and colds one after another in the early months of this year as my immune system was so weak.

Am pregnant this year so praying I am not afflicted again.

winterwinter · 05/10/2017 13:10

Have you been tested fo glandular fever?

QueenNefertitty · 05/10/2017 15:47

Okay have started vomiting... is this just because I'm not eating and taking painkillers/strepsils on an empty stomach? Or is it something more sinister???

OP posts:
QueenNefertitty · 05/10/2017 15:48

@winter ... it's crossed my mind..., I should ask to be, possibly

MargoLovebutter · 05/10/2017 16:08

Can you keep water down. If you can, then it is probably your stomach telling you it doesn't appreciate this current regime.

I can't take anything, not even paracetamol on an empty stomach!

If you can keep the water down, try to eat something even if you are not hungry & the thought of swallowing anything more substantial than water makes you want to chop your own head off, just to give your stomach a chance!

Check with the ABs though to make sure you don't have to take them on an empty stomach or an hour before food etc.

(Again, not in anyway qualified to give advice, just sharing my own experiences.)

astoundedgoat · 05/10/2017 16:15

It would take Sporner's Corner to whole new levels, all right!

endofthelinefinally · 05/10/2017 18:15

Can you eat ice lollies, cold yogurt, ice cream?
Semi solid food is much easier to swallow than liquids or hard food.

QueenNefertitty · 06/10/2017 10:46

Somewhat unbelievably... I also have a stomach bug?!?? I know it's a separate bug as DM has it too.... serious fucked off doesnt quite cover it
