To go to Tesco instead of Aldi

SliceOfTruth · 02/10/2017 17:08

We would most likely save a lot more money if we shopped at Aldi, however, Tesco is extremely close to our house and Aldi is a longer car drive and there are no other shops in our city except for an expensive Waitrose and Sainsbury's on the outskirts

Only you know which supermarket you can afford to shop at Confused

VeryCunningStunt · 02/10/2017 17:12

Have we truly come to a point in time when adults are unable to make a decision about which supermarket to use without consulting social media?

existentialmoment · 02/10/2017 17:12

I doubt anyone but you cares where you shop.

coddiwomple · 02/10/2017 17:12

why can't you do both? Go to Aldi for a big monthly shop - with all cleaning products etc, and do your top-ups in Tesco.

Disclaimer: I can't do a monthly shop, even with 2 fridges I can't plan that far in advance and even the milk doesn't last that long.

Logbaskethandles · 02/10/2017 17:12

No need to be snarky.

TommyandGina · 02/10/2017 17:15

Try driving to Aldi for a couple of weeks and see how much you save to decide if it is worth it. I find with the smaller selection of items in there I impulse buy less and therefore save a fortune. Having said that I usually shop in whichever supermarket is nearer to me at the time, or I use Ocado.

rightnowimpissed · 02/10/2017 17:15

Tescos, Sainsburys and M&S all day long, don't have aldi, Lidl is disgusting.

bridgetreilly · 02/10/2017 17:15

There's nothing unreasonable about wanting to shop somewhere you can reliably find the same things on the shelves, can get food at reasonable prices, and near to where you live. I cannot understand why you need affirmation in this choice?

LoniceraJaponica · 02/10/2017 17:17

How much extra in fuel will it cost to drive to Aldi?

Will the savings cover the fuel cost?

GerdaLovesLili · 02/10/2017 17:48

Oh Gods. Really?

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 02/10/2017 17:50

I went to ALDI once for a weekly shop.

Wasn't any cheaper than Tesco.

Ttbb · 02/10/2017 17:53

Is it really cheaper? Have you factored in fuel cost?

HopeelessMum · 02/10/2017 18:27

I dont think Aldi is any cheaper than Tesco. Tesco has more choice too, so i would do all my shopping there if I were you.

FlakeBook · 02/10/2017 18:53

We halved our shopping bill swapping from tesco to aldi. It's up to you whether you can afford it.

gem31566 · 02/10/2017 19:08

I didn't find Aldi cheaper and some of its food was gross!!! Confused

scoobydooagain · 02/10/2017 19:16

I've mostly given up on Aldi, I like their low fat greek yoghurt and some deli stuff but think their quality has gone down hill, have had mouldy tomatoes, popped in for yoghurt last week, picked up some mangoes, they were disgusting, not a money saver if it goes in the bin

wetpebbles · 02/10/2017 19:17

I prefer Tesco

HattiesBackpack · 02/10/2017 19:19

Well I'm not an Aldi fan, I don't like fresh stuff I think it's poor quality, and I think the grocery goods are mostly rubbish too, so i think you would get better value at Tesco. Stick to the Tesco own brand/basics and I think there would be very little difference.

What's wrong with Lidl? I love it.

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 02/10/2017 19:23

YABU for considering shopping at Tesco! The customer service is bloody shocking.

amusedbush · 02/10/2017 19:26

I actually spend about the same at Tesco as I do at Aldi but Tesco's fruit and veg is miles better, I like their meat better and their milk doesn't turn into cheese after three days.

Tesco have started doing a cheaper range of meat/fruit/veg that is on par with or lower than Aldi's prices.

LockedOutOfMN · 02/10/2017 19:31

I like berries, fresh fish and smoked salmon from Aldi. Similar in price to the other supermarkets, though. The bread also looks nice, but I've never bought any. I wouldn't be able to do my whole shop there, though.

LoniceraJaponica · 02/10/2017 19:39

"YABU for considering shopping at Tesco! The customer service is bloody shocking."

YABU for thinking that Tesco's customer service is shocking for everyone. That has not been my experience at all. I have been ordering online from them for 16 years and often use their local store. I have had nothing but excellent service from them.

Fannylodger · 02/10/2017 19:39

How should I know?
Shop at waitrose if you'd like - mn isn't in charge of where you shop or what you spend and I don't think anyone is 100% frugal (at least, not by choice).
