To trim my own hair and cut myself a side fringe?

Cant be fucked with going to the hairdressers (the only profession I'm aware of where it's acceptable to charge money for insults- "gosh your hair is so fine/dry/damaged on repeat despite me knowing that).

AIBU to fuck them off and do my own hair?

Should i straighten my hair before I get chopping?

What is known as the 'mumsnet' haircut on here (though actually has nothing to do with mumsnet and existed long before it) does need a bit of work done on it after the initial cut. It also doesn't seem to work very well on straight hair either, because the lines are too visible.
If I had dead straight hair I would probably do an A line bob. There are some very nice ones on youtube.
There's no denying that there are some people on youtube that are pretty good at working with their own hair, and also other beauty techniques.
However, if you need a really smart polished appearance for work or whatever then you're probably better off going to a hairdresser or other professional.

You could try a creaclip?

Been cutting own hair for years. Long, straight don't have a fringe (don't suit one). Having just looked it's what's referred to as a mumsnet cut, a hairdresser friend showed me years ago. Never had a problem, use a good brush and good sharp proper hair cutting scissors and watch YouTube vids a couple times to be sure.

I get a 'proper' cut when I get it coloured occasionally when trying a new colour - but usually colour myself too have since teens.

I've been asked by hairdressers who cut it in a complimentary way and got Shock looks when I tell them.

Hairdressers are quite a recent development they only really came about in the 20's/30's and only hit the high street 30's/40's being used mainly by the wealthy before then.

Haven’t been to a hairdresser for well over 10 years. Cut and dye my own hair now and I will never return to hairdressers! Why oh why do they never ever do what you ask. The last straw for me was when I went in and specifically asked for a dark brown dye over my medium brown hair and they dyed it red also always cut it 100000x shorter than you actually asked for and yes the insults about how dry/damaged/shit my hair is.
