My fucking cats are driving me to breaking point

I don't want to rehome them.

But I do feel at times like they are ruining my life. Exaggeration but it feels like that.

Black cat is incredibly loud, has a yowl that sort of goes through to your insides. He yowls when he wants to come in. Then when he wants to go out. This can be anything up to ten times in an hour. I can't relax and do anything. You can't watch TV or even eat. Won't use a cat flap. Worst of all he thinks five am is time to go out. I am exhausted.

Ginger cat hates black cat. Ginger cat hisses and yowls if black cat goes anywhere near him. Ginger cat also does the in, out, in out trick.

We have had black cat since July and it sounds awful but I so regret getting him.

i agree that some cats are simply one-cat cats.
we rehomed a pair of cats, whom we were told had come in together, and should be rehomed as a pair.
it became obvious very quickly that this was a non-starter - lots of fighting (to the extent of needing treatment at the vets), territorial marking, shouting - it was awful, and IMO probably the reason they ended up in the shelter in the first place.

we found another home for one of them, and each now lives a beautifully calm and well-behaved life. I'd LOVE more cats, but I don't think I'd risk it again, unless taking two kittens from the same litter.

My dc is desperate for a cat....thanks for this thread x..I couldn't cope with this behaviour so it's a no ...however you all sound like amazing pet owners with what you are coping with op
Especially 💐

Our 2 cats who get on great are not from the same litter and were not together from kittens.
Cats do actually live in colonies in the wild.
I've also seen one of our cats hanging out with a fox. Lying near each other chilling out. They've also played around the local badgers who live on our garden.

Your cats are the exception rather than the rule

Many cats do not get on when a new one is introduced into a home.

The best many can hope for is that they co-exist, and don't fight.

They are indeed exceptionally wonderful cats.
We did have issues when adding numbers 3 and 4 but it settled down. And they are the 2 matey ones. Numbers 1 and 2 are siblings and generally do their own thing with the odd grooming and chilling out session. The other thing is I think our household is unusual in some ways in that there is usually always a human at home so they get fed regularly and get plenty of attention should they want it. We sometimes have 3 of them on the bed at the same time. Not much human leg room!

Every time he howls yo be let out pick him up and shove him through the cat flap - he will eventually get the message.

Even the most cat flap averse cats can be taught to use them. My DM had one that took years to learn, but he did eventually. They spent hours patiently sitting either side holding the flap open and tempting the cat through with ham. He still prefers to use the actual door but now we know he can use the flap we don't feel guilty ignoring him miaowing at the door next to the flap!

Yep agree with others my 14 yo girl took six months to accept my two kittens but now they eat together and occasional share a basket so
All is well. I think she likes the cat company as she missed her sister when she died terribly.
