An Irish person would never say this

"I'm thinking of moving to the north east, where can you recommend"

Neither would a Scottish person, not a Welsh person.

Why do English people seem to think that everything revolves around England? I see this time and time again on Mumsnet. People assuming that "North East" is flipping England.

I think if people are living in england and say 'I'm moving to the north east' it's totally reasonable. England and Scotland are habitually viewed as separate countries, so I think it makes sense to talk about the country you're in.

I say this as a Scottish person living in Scotland btw.

I'm Irish and I understand English people referring to the North East as the North East, I don't really get the issue. I'd say I'm going up North if I was referring to Northern Ireland, or to the West if I was going to Galway etc.

Why the need to create issues here Grin

Also this isn't a purely English site so let's not jump on that wagon either .. We're all friends here. Lol.
