I need a better potato peeler

I find them so hard to use. This one peels carrots OK but is narrow so leaves a gauge when doing a big potato. AIBU to ask for recommendations for the ultimate veg peeler or is this as good as it gets?

Also, ove been waiting a long time to recommend it to someone, but none of my friends talk about potato peelers (the bastards)
I love mumsnet.

A y shaped one from home bargains, it costs 49p and I think it does the job brilliantly. And at that price it is well worth the risk of buying one to find out.

They are available in red, black or white.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 27/09/2017 20:40

Team Oxo here too. Expensive but worth it, do squash, marrow etc easily with it!

JaceLancs · 27/09/2017 20:40

Lakeland works best for me

wrenika · 27/09/2017 20:42

Another Oxo Good Grips vote. Had mine for years and it's by far the best peeler I've ever used.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 27/09/2017 20:43

The Oxo good grips one is good. It started to go blunt so I replaced it with a Zyliss one and it’s not nowhere near as good. I am still using the blunt Oxo one instead.

You can peel butternut squash but it’s hard work, even with a decent peeler. Depending on the recipe, I cook it first as it’s a bit easier to peel when cooked.

dudsville · 27/09/2017 20:43

I can't help you but I will take this opportunity to say how much I love mine. My grandmother gave it to me 25ish years ago. It was new, she'd got herself one and liked it so much she bought one for me. It's fabulous but I have no idea what make it is.

bettytaghetti · 27/09/2017 20:46

Definitely the Oxo Good Grips one. A friend bought me one years ago as she thought my existing one was crap and it's been going strong ever since.

PickAChew · 27/09/2017 20:48

I love my Oxo one. They do Lancashire and straight versions. I find a straight peeler much faster and less likely to peel my thumbs

Sosks · 27/09/2017 20:48

I just use a knife, always end up peeling my hands otherwise Blush

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/09/2017 20:50

'Culinare', the best peelers bar none. I'm the fastest peeler in our family and I love doing it too. Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/09/2017 20:51

Make that - in the world actually... it's my one talent.

DragonMamma · 27/09/2017 20:51

Oxo good grips here too!

pestov · 27/09/2017 21:23

Good grips seem to do loads of peelers! Are people recommending the swivel, serrated or Y?

OP posts:
Littlebelina · 27/09/2017 21:31

I use this one www.lakeland.co.uk/6367/OXO-Good-Grips-Potato-Peeler

PickAChew · 27/09/2017 21:33

Same as Littlebelina.

WritingHome · 27/09/2017 21:43

Kuhn Ricon - Swiss make, we have it about 8 years and every day when I use it I think what a pleasure it is - seriously! Our is a stainless steel Y shaped one. I truly LOVE it

steff13 · 27/09/2017 21:46

I can peel a Swede with it, in the same amount of time it takes to peel a potato.

How do you get a Swede to stand still long enough to peel him?

HaggisMuncher · 27/09/2017 21:47

Palm peeler#!! Love it!

Youvegotafriendinme · 27/09/2017 21:48

Oxo good grips Y shape peeler. Had it for years and still going strong

TroysMammy · 27/09/2017 21:48

Another vote for Lakeland.

Yorkshirelassie · 27/09/2017 21:49

Oxo good grips here too!

Yorkshirelassie · 27/09/2017 21:49

Y shaped!

Ginandplatonic · 27/09/2017 21:51

Another Oxo fan here. I recently had to replace mine (with another Oxo) after 15 years because it was just starting to get less sharp. I have the same one pp linked above.

Ginandplatonic · 27/09/2017 21:52

The straight one that -Lirrlebelina linked. I don't like Y shaped ones, find them clumsy to use.
