DS1 is ill. He's had croup for 4 days, has a chest infection and is full of cold. He's obviously not been himself, usually he isn't a fussy eater. He likes most things including lots of veg. Would prefer that over a chocolate bar. definitely not like me.

Today we had Moroccan lamb tagine, and like the past 4 days he has turned his nose up at it. So I resorted in cooking him a plate full of veg. But as I tuck into my lamb and him his broccoli, I feel a tad terrible, although he's actually eating something finally. So AIBU

Yes I might try him with a little bit of tomato soup, he likes that and it might be thin enough to keep down.

So far I've been giving him Calpol and children's benylin. Been putting vapour rub on his clothes and on his blanket at night. It just seems to be getting worse. I thought there were some kind of antibiotics for croup. He was diagnosed with it so ConfusedConfusedConfused

He's currently laid on the sofa, bright red with a burning temp, his eyes are so glazed and every time he coughs he cries and complains his throat hurts. Sad poor bab.

I've sent DH to the shop for icecream . We've got ice lollys but they melt before hes properly tucked in lol.

No. There is no antibiotic for croup. Well that's what I was always told. Apparently it's the airways sticking together so steam does help with this. Like I said ds had a nebuliser in hospital but apparently that's not recommended anymore. Although it used to work on him instantly. I always thought of croup as like an attack of croup rather than a drawn out illness. Although a cold used to follower. I do hope he feels better soon. Definitely use steam though. !! X

Sorry one more thing has he been checked out. Had his obs done. Did they check his sats ?

JennyLane · 27/09/2017 18:48

About 18 months ago two of our kids came down with hand foot and mouth. Neither ate a thing for three days.
When Ds finally started to feel better he asked for a cake. We were at my mums and she had a tray of those iced fairy cakes you get for a pound at Aldi. Turns out he didn't want a cake, he wanted the icing. And I sat and let him scrape the icing off 8 of them and eat it. It wasn't going to kill him, it's not every day and he was so weak from not eating it was a relief to see him enjoy something.

A plate of veg is a good dinner any day of the week!

Attached is what I use for dd. She has asthma there are other charts if you do a google search. Count his breaths per minute I set a timer on my phone.

Oh it is so horrible when they are ill. Ice cream can be great as it slips down easily and cools too. If he won't eat when just go for fluids. Any fluids at all. It's not the time to worry about giving him squash.

Ttbb · 27/09/2017 19:45

At least he's eating sonething. A lot of people (ok, me) don't eat at all when sick.

Bubblebubblepop · 27/09/2017 19:47

He's poorly

It's one meal

Are you serious?

SwishswishBiTCH · 28/09/2017 14:38

Thankyou @kkk that will c9me in handy.

@bubble it's not just one meal though is it, he hasn't eaten anything in 5 days, not even fluids, and when he did take either in he would throw it straight back up.

Took him to WIC, turns out he has an infection in his lung Shock and a s uper raw throat Sad they've given him antibiotics, so hopefully it clears soon. Thanks
